In GT5 is way to pronounced, it over powers the the rest of the car sounds. The whine from the drivetrain was over emphasized imo I usually don't install race transmission because it ruins the sound of the car.

done to death...

its the whine of the transmission
and it is way to loud especially for regular cars with sound proofing and stuff

Your argument just became null when you said most....put a sequential in a normal car and come back with something to talk about.

This has probably been mentioned before but racing box's use straight cut gears vs helical in road cars. This is why they make a lot of noise.
I believe the reverse gear is supposed to be straight cut in road cars so jump in your car and drive backwards quickly and you can get an idea of how loud they sound.

the drivetrain sound in GT5 is so annoying. In S2U its even worse .. but I prefer GT3 one :sly:

Yes, i hate the whinig sound, its to loud for me, you hardly hear the real motor sound.

As proven by Barron in the post above, real life examples are the best evidence to educate the ignorant.

Here is another video that showcases Hans Stuck lapping the Green Hell in an E46 BMW M3 GTR, which is available in GT5:

One of my favorite videos of all time.

The thing is that one shouldn't be forced to buy a straight cut gears racing transmission to customize gear ratios. Outside the race track people usually fit different final drives/differential gears when needed, which don't cause added noise.

Yeah the additional sound is so annoying and have been present since the original GT.
Its NOT realistic any where. I don't wanna ride vacuum cleaners every time i choose something different then an american or a bmw m5. The sound-part of a racing game is _SO_ important and have been a big disappointment since gt3. I hope they fix realistic engine sounds in gt6.

At least the cars sound normal while in neutral shift and your outside the car.

EDIT: I now realized this thread was only about the drivetrain sound. Not the cars in general. My bad.

I wish this as well.

I actually like the sound of the transmission in RACE CARS as it sounds meaner

I don't mind it too much in road cars either... :)

Correct. Its called gear meshing. It just simply makes that sound, nature of the beast. If you want a 800hp car, chances are you will need a race trans. Helical gears are much weaker due to the fact that it puts uneven pressure on the receiving splines. This would cause them to shatter with a higher power output than what was designed. Your personal car was designed to extinguish the gear meshing phenomenon in the trans purely for your comfort and piece of mind.....nothing else. In no way shape or form did PD exaggerate the "whining sound". It truely is that loud. If you want to be unrealistic (which contradicts what most preach here), dont put a race trans in your 800hp or w/e car. Thats your choice as you paid for your game.
In referance to the "reverse" statement, to my knowledge that use to be true. Though it is still less angled compared to your drive gears, they are not straight cut anymore....especially in A/Ts. Im saying this from a purely observant standpoint w/ no true publication evidence. Regardless, that is still a perfect example given its a older model car/truck. LOL, though i wouldnt advise this act personally.

those are race cars. a car with soundproofing wont sound as loud as it does in gt5
and ahve you ever heard a none ace car with straight gears? its not loud at all....
so you cat educate the ignorant when your case only works for racecars

straight cut gears in stock cars sound just too loud. like 1.75-2.50 times to loud. It sounds likes there no soundproofing at all even with no weight changes
they have it spot on in racecars and i wanna keep it that way, just lower it in a stock car. Like an M5 thats designed to be quiet sounds louder than that M3 GTR

I do what the OP does, with most of my cars i don't install the race transmissions for the simple fact that the gear whining sound is just too over powering. Tho on actual race cars i don't mind it.

Some car's in the game have the sound even tho you don't have a race transmission. This problem has been around since the first GT and it's always gotten on my nerves. For me, the sounds have always been the biggest downfall of the game. PD has really gotta step their game up when it comes to engine music.

Try spelling correctly and refining your posts before you try to make a discussion of something you obviously don't understand. I'm not going to reply after this for the simple fact that everyone will use the "soundproofing" excuse as their only means of ammo. Soundproofing or not, it is still obnoxiously loud. Again, that's just the way it is. Anyone that says otherwise is one whom has never rode in a street car w/ 1/1 gear splines. You cant even talk to each other...it requires yelling lol. This entire thread is just a pointless b*tching session about something that is normal.
