Kai, this is an awesome thing to do for the community. The picture mode idea is a good one, you could judge the entries yourself of course, but I think opening it up to voting by the community would be a great idea. Good luck with this.

+1 KaiLee..

You sound like a very generous and giving lady..
What a wonderful present the wheel would be for the lucky winner\s..

Id vote for the best "How the hell did you do that...." picture
:)

lol just noticed that all races above the professional serier i.e. expert and extreme are manual geared and no driving aid races... cant do that crap with a sixaxis (maybe its just me who's worthless) :p now i need to win this wheel ever more :D

I am doing endurance races and they are grueling. I was tired when I started. My back is killing me. Whats wrong with shifting with sixaxis?

Kai....

Clearly the wheel should go to a wheel-less Moderator. :D

Seriously, though, putting up a DFGT as a prize is a very generous offer, Kai.

Does a wheel make that much of a difference?

It would be like playing DDR with a Dpad, Guitar Hero with a controller, or Starcraft with a Joystick.

Well not that extreme but you get the idea.

Kai, props. I already have a G25 but you are very generous.

I'm not going to enter but how about a different competition for each wheel? Best photographer, best drifter, best essay writer etc...

I suggest a "Car Treasure" contest...

You choose 05 ( as your will ) standard cars people should get to you in the used section for gt5. They´ll have to buy them and send to you. The first one that send all the cars to you... wins.

Be sure to pick the most rare cars available. It shoud be fun as they are completey random and level based.

Or perhaps, you should create an differente "Car Treasure Contest". You give tips everyday about ONE standard car. People should discover what car it is, buy it and gift it to you. The first one wins.

Very nice and generous of you Kai, great idea! 👍
đź’ˇ Someone who doesn't have a wheel and who does not have the mean to stretch financially (despite having the PS3), deserves to receive one from you... :)

Its mot really the shifting. Its more the loss of control when downshifting which i think could be avoided more easily with a steering wheel since the X button isnt really as sensetive as a gas pedal and you could regulate the throttle better cause full throttle in a turn = spinning out. When the car starts sliding i think its easier to straighten it out with a wheel aswell.

Best of luck with the endurance races by the way :)

Sounds amazing! I want to be part of this somehow hehe cause I've always desired one :( :(

Anything! You are a great person hehe

I would think that going down the lines of doing a 2 min racing video (your racing video with Tag obviously), music, snap shot of cars you've done up and just being creative with effects let the mind go wild and post it on YouTube and link it to this site for people to vote? A nice way to spend the evening watching creative people being creative with GT5. 👍

I'd like to take part. I was hoping to get a wheel for Christmas, but what the hell? But what's the official contest going to be?

This is awesome :D I don't have any money for a wheel right now and playing with the controller doesn't give you any precise control. Especially throttle control in corners with high horsepower rwd cars. It's either no throttle at all or all 600+ hp to the rear wheels which leads to spinning out...
Anyways, this is great! A wheel would certainly add to the GT experience 👍

How about someone like me (or anybody) I don't need a wheel as I have a G25 that I've had since they were released. Anyway let a person pick 3 numbers 1-12 1-31 00-99. Numbers being in order MM/DD/YY then have people give birthdates to win (Must show ID with birthday if win/ or have people pick any date {year turned 10} {year turned 5}) Maybe even have 3 people pick the numbers. Numbers being PM'd to you so nobody could pick someones birthday they know. This way you don't have to say "this one is better than that one" thing. Have people post birthdays for XX number days closing on MM/DD/YY.

This thought up by that "Crazy opelgt:crazy:1969 guy"

This is a really great and kind gesture! Not often do you see this kind of generosity :)

Very generous of you, KaiLee.

I suggest an essay contest; such as why you like to virtual race; best race circuit; etc.

Choose top 5 (Make essays available to read for those interested?) and then pick randomly, the winner from 5 finalists.

And now the talk of a 'new' wheel "soon" by Kaz :ouch:

My DFGT is slowly dying...

So what's up with the event you want to organize to give away free DFGT ?

I'll be watching this thread. Started playing this game when I was 10 years old and I am just now wanting a wheel.

Is it worth those of us outside of the US entering?

Either way, I think the competition should definitely be something that doesn't just require skill at the game, especially since we kinda need the wheel to maximize our potential anyway :)

Here is my review of the game even though I have only played for a couple days and am only level 18. Since my finals are next week I've been studying for them pretty much all day :nervous:

Gran Turismo 5. It's what we've all been waiting for, but has it been worth the wait? The quality of racing and the thrill of fighting for the top spot has completely surpassed my expectations and provides a huge amount of the most important part of a video game: fun. Driving genuinely feels like you're in the cockpit (And from my experience, that's without a wheel, I can only imagine how it feels with a wheel!) and although the damage hasn't been implemented perfectly, small details like the shaky view at high speeds, the bump and resulting chaos during a crash, and the ever-changing weather and environment all serve to immerse you in GT5's awe-inspiring realism.

Sadly, this cockpit experience can only be played in about 200 of the over 1000 cars in the game, one of the biggest and only drawbacks for this immense game. The difference in detail between the 200 premium cars and 800 standard cars is shocking and disappointing, to say the least. Want to change the rims on your favorite car? You better hope its a premium car, as even the seemingly easy act of changing the wheels on a standard car is impossible. The level of detail between the two cars can be seen clearly, and the whole notion of having two separate sections for cars in the game gives the game an unfinished feel.

Although the huge difference between standard and premium cars is unsettling, all is forgotten when you get in a race against 15 other cars, all of you fighting for an edge over the competition. Although this may be contrary to the general consensus on GT5, I think the best part of Gran Turismo is the pure fun of driving, rather than the huge amount of fluff in the game. I couldn't care less about 1000 cars, changing rims, and grinding for hard earned cash, as long as the game is FUN. If you go into the game with an open mind, looking to have a great time with a machine you will probably never be able to drive in real life, Gran Turismo 5 will please you to no end. On the other hand, if you go into the game nitpicking on details that you feel should be implemented, that will only draw from the actual fun to be had racing.

Overall, Gran Turismo 5 will appease us fans for years to come. The steep learning curve and the seemingly endless chase for golds, not to mention the online racing, provide endless replayability. Gran Turismo 5 is not the perfect game in terms of content, but you would be hard pressed to find a more realistic, yet fun game on the track.

9/10 👍

I just wasted about 10 minutes I should have used for studying. Oh well, it was fun :) Good luck to all!

this is easy. Set up a race with 800+ hp cars and comfort tires on nurburghring nordsleife!

Gran Turismo 5: Still a Step Forward

The excitement of beginning a new series in the Gran Turismo lineup was the same as always. Amongst some of the disappointing aspects of the game, are quite a few rock solid features.

Most importantly polyphony's step into the online and ever evolving game are a great step in the right direction. Although LAN functionality still evades GT, the ability to play online with friends is quite nice in its own right. With the ability to update key components of the game, as well as possibly add to the game itself, there is a lot to be happy about. This will ultimately help keep the GT community together, rather than have each person isolated to his or her console.

Although there have been quite a lot of negative opinions about certain qualities of the game, they do not affect the game play. However they are not unforgivable and rightfully detract from the game. Such as the aliasing issues through smoke, as well as blocky outlines in the wet courses with lots of mist. Its not ideal, but in the grand scheme it hasn't bothered me a whole lot.

I am a bit sad concerning the number of events. Its fair to make the comparison to other games in the genre which have certainly been able to stuff their games full of playable content. Which is what the players should be concerned about, the game play. However, as is the style of polyphony, they will try to perfect what they have. That said the premium cars are absolutely stunning. Again people like to whine about this taking away possibly from other aspects of the game they would have preferred, but none of that affects the game play (how those 1000 cars drive) which has been rock solid from the beginning, although this time around a bit short.

In the end GT5 is a wonderful driving sim, and I enjoy it quite a lot, even on a dualshock. I am not entirely pleased with everything, but i certainly like the game and look forward to the next iteration now that all of the grunt work has been accomplished. I can only imagine what they might be able to provide, given the foundation they have built for themselves with Gran Turismo 5.
