Well, the new DS Lite was released today. It now supposedly has much brighter screens, it weighs less, and it looks better. But is it worth a purchase from people with regular DSs?

Looks great to me... but I have a PSP.

Seems like the Gaming forums need a makeover... say, a Microsoft, a Sony, and a Nintendo forum, with the categories for each system inside? That would make a whole lot more sense than the system we have now *runs off to site feedback*

I saw some kid playing it at BestBuy today. Looks pretty cool. I think it was $129? I am interested in the game I think is called "Brain Age" or something like that. I usually have very little interest in portable gaming, but if I was to get one, it will be this. 👍

Yep, the DSs are all $130. You can probably pick one up used for $100. 👍

This DS Lite also has 20 hours of battery life at the lowest screen brightness setting, comapred to 6-7 hours of the PSP.

Yeah i'm pretty impressed by the Lite 👍 I've got a DS at the moment and the improvements are marked:

The Lite has brighter, better quality screens (much larger viewing angles too by the looks of it), a larger stylus, a better thought out design leading to having less weight and being more compact, and longer battery life as mentioned.

The 2nd screenshot comparison in Duck's first post pretty much sums it all up. Looks great and the difference in screen quality is amazing. Someone criticised it on a gadget website for looking like an Apple iBook... how is that bad! Much much better than the old toy casing.

I'm very tempted to exchange in my current DS for a Lite :) I'll probably only get £40 for my current DS at Gamestation, but even then £60 for the Lite is a bargain.

Hooray, Nintendo Board!!!!

Anyway, look what they did with the boxes for it now...

...AWESOME.

Awesome, we got a nintendo forum. This DS Lite looks great, i may pick one up in the future. I would definitely buy one of these before a PSP.

...I don't get it.

And I might just trade in my old DS for this new one. 👍

You don't get it? The box it shipped in lights up and plays a trumpet fanfare when you open it!

Ah, i didn't get it either, but i was watching it at work so had no sound. Been watching online presentations this morning so had my speakers on and just clicked on that DS Lite video to see if i could see the lights (missed them the first time around) and blasted the fanfare across the office :guilty:

I want a DS Lite in a box that fanfares dammit.

Make one in black or silver and I'm there.

I bought one:dopey:
Didnt have a DS before and went to futureshop they morning it released and said what the heck why no?
Im happy with my purschase and I think it looks NICE. If you havent got a DS yet then go for the DS Lite much better looking then the original DS.

Well the DS Lite is released in the UK tomorrow, gonna pick one up with Mario Kart and Mario 64, Hopefully get metroid prime and sonic too!

Im just confused as to what colour to get - Black or White?

What do you guys think?

Which colour have yous or would yous get the DS Lite?

White looks shexshy, i think that's what i'm going for 👍

Sent an email to Gamestation to find out how much they'd give me for my old DS, but i've had no reply. Will just have to wait and see. Won't be able to get it until the 3rd July at the earliest, got too much work and holidays going on :p

Yeah i liked the look of the white as i have the psp and the black one would be too familiar!

I cant wait to get it, i havent even played a DS before!

honestly, I think the original DS excels in both the control pad and sound.

The DS lite feels EXTREMELY soft to me (which only matters because I play a fighter on my DS) in comparison to the original.

The sound is also louder on the original.

Other than that, the Lite is brighter, lighter, and a lot more sleek, with a helll of a better stylus.

I own both of them BTW, because I Couldn't get rid of my original, TOO good for fighters.

no no, not at all.

When I say soft, I literally mean "soft". When you press in the buttons, it's almost like there is a "foam" under-core to it. With the DS, it feels a lot more precice, there's less travel motion, and it's a "click" sound, comparable to NES and SNES controllers. Witht he DS lite, it feels a lot less "sure" similar to the 360 Dpad, which IMO is also soft.

Ah i know what you mean! yeah i prefer the buttons that snap into place! then you know exactly when you have pressed it, However im still going to get the Lite!

Ok i got another question, i heard you need to use the stylus for Mario 64 (and some other games) but is it really necessary as you will already have one hand on the d-pad and the other on the action buttons, so wheres the third hand? i aint found mine yet!

It really depends on the game, and set up. Some games require yo uto use the D-Pad and Touch Screen, others just the touch screen, some not the touch screen at all.

Then there's some where you'll just reach over w/your thumb and hit the touch screen lik ethat.

Well, I got a DS Lite from my parents as a vacation gift. :D

And it is AWESOME.

The screen are a lot brighter, a lot brighter. The casing looks a ton better, and it'll go great with my Mac. Plus, it's lighter and more portable. The stylus is better, and the position, and overall, it's better.

I think my only complaints are that the D-pad isn't as precise. It's great for side scrolling games like New Super Mario Brothers, but for other games like Animal Crossing, that's not side-scrolling but open platform, you can only easily go up, down, left, and right. Going in diagonal directions isn't nearly as easy as on the normal DS, and so you have to rely on the touch screen for moving wherever you please. However, it's a minor setback.

That said, the brighter screens, the better looks, and the better everything garners the extra $70 (assuming you trade in your old DS at GameStop for a new one), unless you hardly ever play your current DS. ;)

Now, with Datel's DS attachment that lets you play movies and music, and view photos, etc. (a 2 GB attachment is $120). And with that, I present to you, the PSP Killer.

And that's my thoughts of my new DS. :)

On Sunday, I went out and I got me the DS Lite :dopey: I dont know but after checking someone's blog about it

Well i got my DS Lite (white one) - Really enjoying it at the moment, didnt have the original DS but compared with it as i have played one it is excellent!

Got the New Mario bro's, Mario Kart and Mario 64, all the games are fun! and thats where it sets itself apart from the PSP, i love both machines but its just better and more fun to pick up the DS and play for an hour or two!

I was gonna say the exact same thing, i got my DS Lite about 2 weeks ago and i havent played my PSP since, Mario64DS, MKDS, and the New super mario are wayy more than enough to keep me busy, and once they get boring i have metroid prime: hunters, brain age, tetris, and sonic to look forward to
