He came back for the fans for this one last race. A shame really as I love the guy. The most charismatic guy on the grid.

The aero reduction really helped with the racing, I have to say. The Glock/Paffett duel in race 2 was one for the ages.

That was pretty epic. All of Race 2 was really good. Paffet really drove an amazing race, he deserved more. Some of the best wheel to wheel racing I’ve seen in a while.

I can’t wait to see these cars at Brands Hatch. I’m loving the reduced aero and the racing it’s creating.

It really was a living classic of a battle, but the commentary at times was pretty anemic. Also DRS seemed pretty overpowered compared to past seasons, probably a result of the aero changes, but not a major nuisance since that back straight and hairpin leave a decent bit of room for defense no matter how much speed difference there is.

So, that Lausitz race 1, huh? :D

The prolonged stoppages at the very start, including a flip, turned it into a 20-minute, 14-car shootout at the end... and I have to say that it was the best 20-minute, 14-car shootout I've seen. :dopey:

I don’t understand why they kept the clock running during the red flag...? Were they on that tight of a time schedule?

Glad to see Rast walk away from that wrecked that was nasty.

Another scary sight in Hungary where a number of cars slid through their pit boxes in a brief shower and into crew members and marshalls. The problem looked like where the cars stop for their pitstops is concrete and when it got wet it looked like a polished marble floor or something and the cars just couldn't stop on it since they were on slicks.

Yeah that was crazy!!!
unfortunately some of the marshalls got badly injured...hope they wont suffer from permanent injuries!!

Spy.

They need to rethink that concrete surface in the slow lane, it's a miracle that nobody was killed in one of those accidents :(

Those who are interested can find the video at YouTube under watch?v=Som0tHyMh64, I'm not even going to post a working link.

Especially I think it was Motara that took down his entire pit gantry and the box. With all of that equipment flying around it's a miracle no one was struck by it.

All three drivers were subsequently disqualified and excluded from the race.

I can understand that the onus is on the drivers to slow to "a safe speed" which may be well below the pit-lane maximum that they usually drive to but that seems harsh - it's evident that none of the drivers wanted to jeopardise their race with a crash and that they were caught by surprise by the surface.

Yeah I didn't see the decision until this morning but you're right I think that's a little harsh especially for Auer since he was the first one in and had no idea that was going to happen. There was one camera angle sort of looking down head on from someone's pitbox, it might have been Motara's, and the surface just looked like glass.

Auer looked completely shaken by it when he was interviewed during the red flag.

There's a number of actions which could help prevent this kind of thing from happening, some would be down to the circuits (i.e. better drainage and surfaces in the pitlane, fixed bollards/fencing), some could be down to the rule makers (different rules surrounding pit lane protocols - i.e. clearing of standing water from pit boxes, lower pit lane speed or minimum stop time when race is under wet conditions).

... trying to mitigate the risk to other people by expecting a driver in a competitive situation to form that judgement with very little feedback to go on, isn't really on.

Apparently one of the Audi's also clipped something, but has escaped penalty.

Also... GazPaf is not amused.

That was a very chaotic couple of minutes in the second race. Unless I heard wrong, I believe during the broadcast the announcers said that no one was seriously injured, only minor injuries.

The concrete pit lane is an issue, perhaps the driver’s speed was an issue....but was really struck me, the biggest thing that could have prevented almost all people from getting injured....was the positioning of the martials in the pit lane!!

Have these guys never watched a rally before? They were positioned directly in the line of fire, with a concrete wall behind them. What the hell?? Terrible place to begin with, and clearly from the onboard views, none of them had an exit strategy, other than to attempt to jump on the hood of the oncoming car. I get that they were caught off guard, but they shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

The stewards should be made to try and pull off a safe stop on that wet surface themselves, then reconsider their decision.

There is a press conference about the 2019 season at 11:30 CEST. Possible details about Aston Martin joining next season already.
