Earn the X2010 with a DUAL SHOCK 3?

I'm just wondering what the relative difficulty for each race is. Obviously, Monza is the easiest. But with the Dualshock, which is harder...Suzuka or Nurburgring?

I hope Suzuka is easier because I'm about a second slow on Nurb and havent tried Suzuka yet.

Suzuka is much harder. It has way more turns than GP/F does and most are designed in such a way that messing up on one means messing up on the next because you've come in too slow or too fast.

I finally started on the Nurburgring GP/F. I'm finding it much harder than Suzuka...not because the course is difficult, but because of the damn bumps. The whole course feels like you're driving on top of rubber balls. It's impossible for me to take some of these turns at speed, because the track won't let the car turn without skipping all over the damn place. If the track didn't have these bumps, I might have a chance at silver. But as of now, I'm struggling for Bronze. I've had a few runs just 0.6 seconds short of bronze.

Does anyone have any settings that would make the car handle better on this course? It'd be much appreciated. Right now, I simply have everything off besides ABS at 1.

Put Skid Recovery on if you're having trouble - it will make it a lot easier.

Btw Rod-Luke, I put Skid Recovery on. It doesn't help me with the bump problem, but it does allow me to slide into turn 3 which gives me an extra couple milliseconds.

Edit: Finally got it. Those extra tenths of a second helped me out. Final time: 2:14.066

I just got it as well. My problem was getting way to nervous anytime I made it to a second lap with a decent first lap time, which then I'd just mess up.

I had to try it for over an hour just to get "in the zone". Then another hour I got it with a 2:13.xxx time. I was so nervous on the second lap when I got it, but since I was "in the zone" it was no trouble. Heart was flying and hands were pouring out sweat. I messed up the final turn by turning in way to early, which I never messed that one up before its probably the easiest on the whole track. Thankfully I didn't hit the barrier, but it did slow me down.

I'm saving Suzuka for next weekend I think. Pretty rewarding even getting bronze in this competition for me.

^^Haha, I know what you mean. Anytime I did a 1:06 or low 1:07 first lap, my heart would start racing for the second lap. Just like you, it interfered with my driving big time. Because of that, every single time I completed both laps, besides the bronze medal one, my first lap would be faster than my second lap...ridiculous. I even tried pausing the game just after the first lap to try and calm down, but that didn't work because it got me out of rhythm.

I finally bronzed this today. I was so exicited I forgot to save the Suzuka replay.

In order of easy to hard:

Monza
Suzuka
Nurburgring


Suzuka has more corners that aren't equal radius, but you can take most of the corners in 4th and 5th with the only trouble spots being the chicane and the one hairpin.

Nurburgring is unnessecarily hard as the car is slamming into the ground with a bad suspension setup for the course, and if you so much as touch a curb your toast.

I just started trying the Vettel challenge (using DS3) and I can't stop driving the damn thing into the wall.

The acceleration, braking and steering response are about 4x quicker than my reactions and hand-to-eye co-ordination.

This thing is a mare

I got all golds with Dualshock controller. Just just have to know how to gently steadily move the analog stick when going around turns so you dont really yank the cars into the turn and lose seconds off the laptime

Obviously you are a liar, no one did it, it's impossible. Dualshock has slower reaction times than Wheel, so there is no way anyone could do it. I talk here about Suzuka where there is no place for errors and slight mistakes. Monza and Nurburgring are the tracks where you can be sloppy, drive from one curb to another, from left to right like drunk driver and still you can achieve Gold on Monza and Silver on Nurburgring but Gold on Suzuka is impossible. Corners in this tracks you have to approach with surgeon precision, time is running out and DS is not a wheel, it has no that smooth and precise steering like you have on Wheel.

I struggled with the DS3, I've only completed one event and I was 4 secs off the pace. The Wheel has been just as bad for me. I can't drive this thing.

I've got gold on the first two events and a bronze on Suzuka. The user here by the name of Tidgney has managed to get gold worthy laps on both the first and second laps but has yet to put them both together so it's all possible with a DS3.

Really hope I can make Bronze with DS3, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I got the Bronze on Monza after about 2 hours. This seemed the best place to start.

Well, not everybody have money to buy a wheel or that chair. I mean, I have a PS3 and a Dualshock 3 and I have to play with that. I already golded the Begginer, Amateur and Professional (A-Spec) with the DS3. I don't have driving licence (I'm 12 years old) and my top speed in a car was 50 km/h (around 31 mph), so i don't know how is driving a car at high speeds.


To me, DS3 is better than a wheel with pedals

I dug up this thread, DJ did you beat Suzuka yet? I didn't get a chance to give a go at it till this weekend...

I loose so much time in the first section, DS3 is so slow there. The best first lap I got was a 1:09.xxx, more consistantly between 1:10 and 1:11. It looks like you need 1:08 first lap and the same speed on the second lap to get bronze?

I can't find anywhere to make up a second on this track, and the times when I complete the first lap at 1:10, second lap is a mess, if I even complete it.

It isn't, there is a lag when the car changes direction.

So that's the controller's fault after all!

I thought it was something in the game coding! I've put SO many cars into the wall because of that lag (and it only ever shows up when you're skidding ). The car's sliding, I try to countersteer, but NO it wants to stay locked into whatever input it's on! ARGH!

The X1 challenge should be a real hoot with this

Believe me, it's totally possible to get the X2010 with a DS3. You just gotta be patient and learn how the car works.
