Embarrasingly low res cars!

Most of the standard cars look horrible, and they have been scaled from die cast cars. Good job PD, and the fact that the premium list is even more pathetic, is worse. Gt5 is a pathetic game really. The premium cars isnt perfect either, because the interior is very low res while racing, the interior was a bad atempt really.

Lol, it's funny you guys mention that because my dad considerably notices it. If your mom has never seen an LCD TV running on a non HD channel and can't see that pixelation, she must need glasses. Or just doesn't have a knack for the little things it seems our generation is so obsessed about.

I am convinced some people literally cannot see these things... it reminds me of when I was a kind and I always left my socks lying around, my mom would get mad and say "do you just not see them" and honest to God, I did not see them.

I could have walked through a house full of socks and on the way out if you asked how many I saw, I would have said "what socks?".

It's like towels on the bathroom floor or trying to help someone find an icon on their computer over the phone ("click internet explorer" - "there is no icon for that" - "I am sure there is, it's a blue E" - "nope, I am looking at every single one right now, I counted 23 icons and none of them are a blue e" - "describe each one to me" - "first is a computer with the words my computer, second is a blue e with the words internet explorer....").

Similarly (but opposite) I had a friend come over, a girl who is the farthest from a video game player you have ever seen... total fashion girl, clubber, not at all about games. I sat her down to drive her car in GT5 on deep forest and her first comment 30 seconds in (while driving none the less) was "wow... look at those trees"... and no not in a good way.

We all knew this was likely to be the case well before release.

Although, I thought they would clean up the standards more than they did.

Since many other aspects of the game are lacking as well, it just seems more intolerable.

As I've often pointed out, had FM3 had cars that looked like the Standard models, a year ago the GT Fanboy Defense League would be all over FM3, ceaselessly criticizing its car models. Now that crude models account for roughly 80% of GT5, these models are dismissed as perfectly fine.

Unfortunately, both FM3 and GT5 (standard cars, of course) have completely unacceptable car models for this generation of consoles. The sad thing is I've never come across anyone who has conceded this before. One game must be flawless and the other must look like crap, apparently.

Which FM models look as bad as most of the standard models? Some of them aren't amazing, and they're all inferior to premiums in GT5 but which are unacceptable for this generation?

Off the top of my mind, the grill of the Aston Martin DB9 in forza is not a complete jaggie-fest like the Premium GT5 one is. GT5 cars for the most part do look better than Forza's, but not all of them.

@ InfamousDee
As a computer/console gamer I have a hard time even thinking of a PC racer with that much better looking car models and everyone knows computers are more powerful than this generation of consoles. So what exactly are you talking about?

In FM3, the DLC Porsche out of the 5O's looks very bad. Just like the old race-Ferrari (the one who won Le Mans at the end of the 5O's). I have the impression that they have not been modeled starting from real cars, but from pictures.

On the other hand, two observations:

1) the quality of the GT5 cars depend of the context: in the garage and in the repair-module, they all look very bad (they don't seem to have the same resolution as in other environments

2) Some premium cars are very beautifil: I took the Alfa 8C yesterday for some hotlaps on my own tracks. What a beast to manage! and real nice replays:tup:

OK, GT5 is far from perfect, but it gives great driving pleasure. And if PD had only put 200 cars and waited another 6 months to launch the game, we wouldn't have been happy neither.

OK, it just hit me. Why do they use PSP models when the better looking PS2 models and textures are there for the taking? They actively avoided the use of PS2 models, hence the lack of FPV and the Accent Rally (which were in GT4 but not GTPSP).

Really! It makes no sense!

I never claimed they looked as bad as standard cars. I said they were unacceptable for this generation of consoles, as are GT5's standard models.

No.

Ok so as I said, which models specifically are not acceptable for this generation of consoles? Someone above mentioned a 50's DLC Porsche which I don't have, but I can't think of any cars in the main game off the top of my head that I thought looked really bad. Some of them are badly modelled but that's a different matter.

Pretty much all of them. Many of the car shapes are just completely off, headlights look bizarre and fogged over (although this could possibly be put down to unrealistic lighting), and during gameplay interiors are conspicuously absent.

In all fairness a cam shot of a screen at 480p doens't really do it justice... I also noticed a lot of the dashboards were pretty chunky and low res looking... Often you can make out what the dials say but they are far from clear and many vents, radio buttons etc are very low poly and sometimes even jaggy.

I wasn't very impressed with the lotus from the special event at TGTT and I think I was doing the Miev race and felt it's dashboard was pretty chunky to look at... numerous other premiums have shared this issue in my eyes.

Then again I am playing at 1080p and only a few feet from the TV so stuff like this stands out... but in comparison to it's surroundings even (ie other cars close up etc) the dashboards regularly seem somewhat low res.

Low-res compared to which game? Even NFS Shift, which despite being terrible from a drivers' perspective boasts some of the best cockpit graphics to date, isn't immune to jaggies in this area.

Not sure if these have been mentioned already but the Beetle RSi and Opera Performance 350Z both look pretty rough. On the flip side I recently purchased an Evolution 5 and Jaguar XKR-R and they both look pretty sharp, even though they are both Standards.

some standards look okay

but some shouldve just been left out the game all together

Lots of the used cars look incredibly bad. Pixelated...

This game was supposed to be well finished and ive been let down...

Tracks and cars are horrible if you look too close.

I'd agree with you on GT5 standard cars, for the most part, but Forza's models I don't think looks bad at all. They look quite good in fact and fit this gen. The jaggies, poor textures, etc of some of the standard GT5 models though definitely look last gen. What sucks is 80% of the cars in GT5 are more likely to fall under this umbrella than the current gen one.

OMG I come here to escape for the stress of work, please don't remind me.:nervous:

I dont really see the problem with graphics.
So what if the car looks less ultra realistic, you still can drive it. I never really liked the look of the so called "awesome graphics", I'd prefer more rougher and less detailed models actually.

If all you care about is graphics then your missing out.

On this rampant Forza III has bad graphics thing going on in here, I thought it was a fanboy thing. Until i saw this.

The Forza iteration looks very poor in comparison.
Many Standard Cars look better than those, let alone premium.
Both of these pictures are direct from Turn 10 and Polyphony Digital.

I need you to restart your computer.

I just did.

Can you do it again?

OK Fine, there restarted.

That was really fast, can you tell me what exactly you did?

I pushed the button to turn it off then turned it back on again.

Where is the button located exactly?

Right down at the bottom right of the picture, it's the POWER button, I know what a POWER button is!

Do you see that big box under your desk with lights on the front?

You mean the CD Drive?

Yeah that, that's the computer, you just restarted your screen.

That's the same thing!

:ouch:

What's so bad about the Forza picture? They're some of the better looking cars in Forza. The lighting is what makes it easily distinguishable.

The Forza cars are approximations, and also abominations, missing aero parts, wrong measurements, details lacking in many places made up for by too much detail in other places.

Take for example the rear of the cars. On the GTR's in Forza you can see that the lights are just a spline rotated model textured. On GT5 you can see each individual LED light casing.
