Endurance Races or What?!?!?

One of the main issues with ps3's failing is that they overheat and over time that heat causes some selinoid or chip (I know it's some type of small piece soldered to a board inside) to fail or fall off completely.

You guys may not mind, but I can guarantee that me and a million others don't want to run our ps3's for like 55 hours straight to complete a 24 hour endurance race.

...And I say 55 hours because people won't play for 24 hours straight, they will need to sleep and eat.

*WE NEED A SAVE OPTION*

I'm not saying we shouldn't have a save option, but to say running the PS3 for 24 hours considerably damages it, is just false information. Even for the 55 hours you state. They're reliable machines.

There's no way I'll ever be able to do one of these without a save option. :grumpy:

My 2 year old uses the PS3 during the day, to watch DVDs. (He's figured out the on/off and eject buttons and puts his own disks in!)

yeh that means alot of endurance races arent an option for me. might get 3 hours a day at a stretch and im not leaving my ps3 on for days on end. ps2 i wouldnt have a problem with tbh but the ps3 i wouldnt

I can understand the 2 - 4 hour endurance races not having a save function, I mean they are called endurance races for a reason. But not having one in the 9 hours and two 24 hour races would be brutal. Thats about where my taste for realism in racing ends there. I would not want to have to the 9 hour one in 1 sitting.

I am at level 17 and I have that race unlocked although I can't find it. I guess it's in the Extreme Series somewhere, I won some event to unlock it is all I can remember.

No you don't have the event. You just unlocked the track in practice and arcade.

No, I specifically saw I had unlocked the Nurburgring 4HR Endurance race, I know as I was there when I saw it.

You completed the AMg Challenge at intermediate, didn't you? Then it's just for Arcade and Practice, just as Bloody said 👍

Again, somebody else who thinks they know it all. I'm sorry, but how can you misinterpret something that comes up on the screen saying 'You have unlocked the 4hr Nurburgring Endurance Race'???? I know the bloody difference between unlocking a track and an event mate.

Nemesis, The AMG event has 4 events, each one with 5 races each. How did you get it? I want to do at least that endurance race.

You say you have it unlocked, but you can't find it? It's in the Endurance Series which is directly above the Extreme Series in A-Spec events. If you don't see it, it's not unlocked. Maybe it's an arcade or practice option race.

Running your console for 24 hours straight isn't a problem, but PD is gonna get some flak from the fans if that is the only way to do these races, it's just not something reasonable to expect. The inside cover of the manual itself says to take a 15-minute break every hour just like any other video game. Expecting you to put in four 6-hour days while keeping your console running is equally ridiculous. Hopefully some type of save option does appear for those events specifically.

Someone mentioned you only unlock the endurance series at level 25.

So maybe you've unlocked the event, but not the series. Which is why you can't find it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the longer races include a save but the shorter ones don't. They figure if it's short enough to complete in one day you should just do it straight through.

Yeah or do what I used to do on gt3 on the oval endurance race:

Jump in your fully-turbo'd pikes peak escudo with over 1k bhp, run the tyres down to the red and just sellotape the controller left analog stick to the left :sly: Even though it grinds along the wall the whole way, and your tyres are completely shot, youre still faster than the other cars LOL.

IDK if theres an oval endurance in gt5?

Indy 500 👍

Don't worry about having your PS3 on for days. I had my PS3 on for weeks running Folding@Home and it was no problem.

This is true. The only real heat-related wear and tear occurs from using the PS3, turning it off, turning it back on, etc. This heat-cycling is what can damage the solder points on the PS3 as solder is now required to be mercury-free, which leads to solder being more brittle than it was back in the old planet-hating days. The newest PS3s only consume about 1/3 as much as the launch units, so they should prove to be extremely reliable in the long run. Of course things like the power supply, HDD, and optical drive are all rated at "hours" of use, so it's a give and take really.

I only ever turn my PS3 off if I don't think I'll be using it again in the next hour or so.

PD confirmes a while ago that you could save during endurance races, or was that a lie too?

Did they or was that merely someone implying that it had that feature?

A lot of games suffer from people (journalists who should know better) from implying or assuming things and portraying them as facts.

No I believe it was an official statement at Tokyo GameShow. But PDs words is worth less than the **** under my shoes after all the promises they made for GT5, which turned out to be BIG LIES

In real life 24hr endurance race is done by 3 to 4 drivers rotate between 2 to 3 hrs of driving.
So Why not get 2 or 3 buddys together and really do a 24hr race, I think that would be interesting.
Maybe from Sat to Sun, nonstop.
