I completed the 9 hour at Tsukuba last weekend. I used the RE tuned RX-7. All the other cars had more HP and passed me on the straights, but I was quicker around the track.

I enjoyed the challenge.

I'm going to run the 24 hour Le Mans/Sarthe track next weekend. Haven't decided which car to use yet, but I think it will be the Mercedes Sauber.

What's the competition look Like for That race? Is it worthy of the 907 hdi?

Not everyone hates the endurance races.
Now that I've finished the majority of the other races/events I find them the most fun.
With an underpowered car and a weight ballast they can be real down-to-the-wire races.
In fact, I don't race anything other than endurance races now.

Endurance races in real life are to test mechanical reliability. Doesn't make sense to have 24 hour in a computer game.
I don't have the time or the patience to do one in a-spec. I did the first 2 and was bored.

Nurburgring 4 hr was fun (love the track)
I used the toyota7 race car for my first attempt, this was too powerful so I ended up playing with different tyre compunds to make it interesting.

Trial mountain - fun. I used an impreza which was slightly more powerful than the opposition and I learnt to drive carefully and make the tires last 25-30% longer than my usual "flat out" strategy ;)

Indy 500 - boring, I don't like the track, but it was a nice way to get lots of a-spec XP. I used a rubber band on the throttle and my left hand on the controller and the stupid redbull X2010.

I want to do the others as well, but it would be nice to be able to save a race and continue later, especially the long ones.

Enduro races are really fun, but I just don't have the time. I have only completed the first race(60 laps). Next will be the 4 hour enduro, but until they have in race saves.....i will never do the 24hr.

I love doing the long races but it can be a little silly leaving the ps3s on for so long.. after losing 3 ps3s to faults (2 ylod, one laser fault, all pre-gt5), I decided to get a slim so I could run things like these, Im currently 14hr into my first le man 24hr, which will level me up to 40, I hated the Tsukuba race, but am loving la sarthe, cannot wait for the nurb 24 :)
Hopefully PD hurries up with the in race saves so more people can enjoy this fun!
I reckon it'l take me 2-3 more days to finish this, but a quick tip, if possible watch something on tv or a dvd etc on a pc at the same time if possible, it really makes the time go quicker, most new tvs have a picture-in-picture so you get a little box showing tv in the corner while racing. Iv'e watched all 3 jurassic park films and all the walking with dinosaurs series so far whilst racing this and it's just been epic!

edit: almost 15 hours in now, and out of nowhere ive found some pace, been beating my fastest lap every other try :) down to a 2.16.324, I reckon 2:12 is possible though

I dont hate them im just waiting for the in race saves

I've always liked Endurance races, I just wish I had the time to complete them.

I really like the endurances actually, but some are just ridiculously long. Who has time to sit in a chair for 24 or 9 straight hours?

I like them a lot :), Except when they last more than 3 hours...

Actually I very much want to do them. But I'm not gonna leave my PS3 on for days. If they don't put in race saves I may never finish them.

It's not just the endurance races. The FGT championship is about a 4 hour event.

Makes me wonder: is there an endurance race guide thread? Would come in handy to know the pace of the AI and what typical runner-up cars there are.

There's some info scattered in the race reports forum, but I haven't found a dedicated thread yet.

Actually, if you are a race driver in an endurance race you're part of a team of drivers. Don't think any one driver would/could do more than 4 hrs at a time. So the Endurance races need to be no more than 4 hrs with an accelerated clock. 4 hrs and you're done with the 24 hrs of Lemans; that's endurance enough for a game.

I think endurance races are the best part of the game. It would be better if the damage in Arcade and Practice modes was added though.

I wouldn't say that most people hate them, but some are definitely too long to be run without in-race saves. A simple addition of the feature to let one of your B-Speccies take over would have helped, too. A 24h race is not run by a single person - that's just ridiculous.

There's also not much incentive to run them. 100k in-game credits for a game of over 2 hours is a massive facepalm, when you look at what cars cost. It's a very poor design choice.

The final nail in the coffin is probably the AI. You either run away, because the AI can't drive its way out of a paper bag or you end up being trounced by vastly more powerfull cars. It's hard to find cars to enter with that make it challenging.

So I wouldn't say that people hate the races, but many with whom I spoke, said that they dislike the way they are designed.

I love it since the first GT

GT4. I have no idea why they got rid of it. Every time you came to pit, you had a choice to let your b-spec driver drive.

Well you run these races for XP not CR, or simply because you like them ;-)

Especially the Grand Valley one is quite good: any sub 450pp car will do nicely and if you buy a variety of tyres you should be in for a treat. the two hours just fly by.

Switching to SS on lap 51 to make up a 38 seconds gap has somerhing to it

I believe the underlying problem is the missing detail of these races. A 24 hours race (Le Mans) deals with several cars (more than 16) and different types of cars, all on one track at one time. I understand having to limit the amount of cars on the track at one time due to PS3 limitations, and right there, answers the question of different types of cars at one time. There seems to be a lack of involvement when it comes to these races, other than just racing those tracks. There is very little in the way of planning and being able to plan your race. Its 24 hours after all.
Do not get me wrong… I will be running these races solo. The 24 hour Nurburgring is the one race I have been looking forward to, before the game came out. The saving part is not a huge issue for me. My Biggest Hurdle is my 10 year old son, planning this out with my wife and staying on a sleep schedule for work.
The Lack of detail concerning Le mans, ALMS, and GT racing in general is what bothers me the most. There is only one game that I know of that came close to providing a real Le Mans type of playing.
Melbourne House created this game for the PC back in 2002 and for a racer is wasn’t that great, but for a racer for Le Mans, there was no equal.
All in all the tracks are great for GT5 and I look forward to racing them in for endurance.
It all boils down to what you are willing to do and go through.

I love the endurance races! I mean the 9 hours at Tsukuba is pretty ridiculous but aside from that they are good. I wish there was the variety and amount of them like in GT4 though.

Need to implement the older style enduro's. 75 laps at Monaco, 60 laps of seattle etc.
Races that take less then 2 hours! I remember one of my favorite memories from GT3 was hunting down the opposition in my 94 style Benneton, knowing that I had to make up 30 odd seconds in 15 laps to win the race. Keep the longer races, but give us some of the shorter ones again. They're fun!

It is interesting how there is so little between the boring 5 lap sprint races and then the 2+ hours races. I guess the FGT races are in between (I haven't actually looked at it yet since I don't have one) but that's only one event, with one car.

I like doing enduros, but they are a lot more fun on the PC racing against 50 or 100 cars in various classes instead of 5 bicycles, 5 slowpoke cars, and one rabbit.

Anyway, while I like running endurance races, that's only on occasion. I'd really love to see more races in the 30-60 minute range, for something meaty to do without having to plan 3 days in advance.

I actually prefer these over all of the other events. The shorter ones that is. I do not have the time to do 24 hour ones without saving. Sorry, I have a full time job, house flipping, a wife, dogs, and baby on the way. Some people have responsibilities.

I wish there was a shorter one on La Sarthe, like a 4 hour one. This is my favorite track and I will probably never do the 24 hour one without a save.

There was just more to choose from in GT4. The only ones I really play are Grand Valley, 4 hour Nurb, Laguna Seca, and Suzuka 1000 km. I hate Tsukuba (and they decided to throw that one in there twice), Indy is boring, and 24 hour ones I can't do, so that leaves me with 4 quality races that can be done in a well planned out day.

There should be a NASCAR enduro on an oval, they should have utilized Daytona's road course, they should bring back the Trial Mountain enduro, maybe one on Cape Ring and Madrid, maybe an F1 race or two in there, Monza, etc. The enduros don't really offer anything new except Indy. Joy.

I do like the endurance races, but why not add the Nurburg GP track? This is a great track, but it's not raced on often in the game.

9 hour endurance on the Tsukuba track? This is a very boring and short circuit.I really don't know how I'm going to complete this race in A-Spec.

The credits rewards aren't high enough.

Most of the car rewards are standard models and can be bought in the dealership.

GT4. I have no idea why they got rid of it. Every time you came to pit, you had a choice to let your b-spec driver drive.

I can only guess that they removed that option, because it made entirely too much sense.
Joke aside, looking at it as a professional programmer, it is obvious, why A-Spec and B-Spec was completely separated. It was a cheap and more importantly quick way to bloat content. All it took was copy/pasting the A-Spec events and substitute the human player by an additional AI driver. Done.

I agree with many poster before me. They are generally mis-designed. What about getting rid of those ridiculous Tsukuba races. The track is less fun than drowning. They've got so many better tracks to use.

Another sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with is the fact that the gap between ultra-short races (almost all of them) and the eternal enduros is too big. Guess it just show how much of a rush job this is and I think they just didn't put too much effort into offline content, because they want to force people to play online. These day everyone thinks that playing offline is so 1796, forgetting that even in highly industrialized nations like my native Germanyland broadband internet connections are not available everywhere.

I don't "hate" them, but simply don't have the ability - WITHOUT IN-RACE GAME SAVES - to tackle them.

I'd say that four hours (of racing time) is pushing my limits of ability and patience.
(I learned that the hard way this weekend tackling the 1,000 km Suzuka Circuit race. With having to take breaks, the race that took me 4:58 to complete lasted seven and a half hours!)

It's not even that it's a question of boredom, because there's sweet challenge in the repetition of going around the same track hundreds of times.
(It just doesn't make sense from a credit-earning perspective to have the patience to spend days on one race that I might earn a half-million credits when I can earn 107,000 credits in about three minutes on one Seasonal Event race.)

Peace...
