Whether 'screwing up' something trivial as videogame data can ever be considered unethical is another question but I get the point.

Most of my (Premium) cars are tuned to some degree apart from my 330 P4, Mark IV, XJ13 and my 3 TZ2's (and Mitsubishi I-Miev...) because not only do these cars already offer great performance and character stock (excluding the I-Miev obviously) but the only way to tune them is by turbocharging them.
Which wasn't done in period (or currently...) so it just seems wrong to me, maybe that's why PD decided they could only be turbocharged so most people who know something about these machines wouldn't use it anyway but still available for those who simply don't care about these considerations (another reason is that with these cars being so incredibly expensive a turbo can always be removed).

A notable exception to this are my 3 fully tuned Miuras, first decided to tune one and leave another stock, after driving my fully tuned Miura for a while (on Sports Soft tyres) and loving it (glorious sound, great handling) I decided to tune the second one too and buy a third one to keep stock.....(you already know what happened with that one too).
Never regretted it, and the Miura can be N/A tuned which is more appropriate to me and suits the car, if I could only bolt a turbo on them I wouldn't have done it.

Although recently I'm strangely enough tempted to buy a second XJ13 and treat it as a Lynx or Proteus replica version (since they only build one after all) which ofcourse can serve as an alibi to do otherwise 'unspeakable' things to it.
It's a question of perception, changing your own perception by perceiving the same car as something different suddenly opens up opportunities. :D
Here's some examples of XJ13 replicas.

Not sure I'll do it though, spending 20 million Credits on something and then treating it as something worth a fraction of that is a bit much, even for me.
Especially since the stock XJ13 already offers everything you'd ever want.

I never tune cars to the max for one reason-> the driving physics feel completely wrong and not comprehensible anymore, especially with RS tires.

And if I buy racing cars, I never tune them and let them in condition how I bought them.

I have a pair of 2Js and 330 P3s too. Plenty of other multiples of high priced cars. I honestly have so much $, I don't know what to do. If I could give it away I would. Already own every car so I just buy more and more duplicates. It is so easy to make money now. I could barely get by when GT5 came out.
Exactly, I'm just like you nearly everyday I have 20 million credits, so I need something to spend it on so the majority of all my cars are tuned even if they are 0 miles or rarely used.

I the only way to "ruin" a car through tuning is using the stage engine mods that are non-removeable. This is because its entirely possible to make a car too powerful for its own good (especially road cars). Case in point I have a modded 09 GTR Spec V that I tried throwing a Stage 3 turbo on. It goes from a great car to an undriveable mess.

I've found myself having no problem keeping up and somtimes dispatching other racers online with 200+ HP and a few hundred kg savings on me in certain cars, there just comes a point where the extra HP is too much.

@Exorcet: Well maybe I used a wrong Word ;) Purist or Enthusiast.
But this would be applicable for you too :D

A Caterham can be tuned to a point where its undriveable (for me though).

If you modify your car then tune it it's better to start on lower grip tyres. Any understeer or handling problems will show up and you can tune the car to compensate. If you use RS tyres while tuning you won't notice any difference until your tyres are worn out or you have to use less grippy tyres.

Well, with most of the racecars already tuned (mostly max engine tuned and light anyway) its ok to buy turbos a.s.o...since it is a racegame i say its ok to max out all cars, because the goal is to get faster round the track than anybody else! But also it is very fun driving with the original cars as they are...hmm, think imma get me all the cars twice ;-)

Ruined. I only install items that can be undone. But this is my way of dealing with it. I also buy two of the same cars. One fully tunes and one stock. More fun in stock cars for me

I'm sorry, but I just really can't get my head around this 'purist' thinking. It's a game not real life. It's the same on the marketplace when people ask, "Has it been sat in?" Of course it bloody well hasn't! But hey, each to their own :) if you want to keep the cars stock that's fine. I just can't grasp that personally.

It is ruined, if you can't get it stock if it is a old car.If it's a new skyline or 458 italia it doesn't matter.

I am regretting that I installed body rigdity improvement to my Jag xj13.

It's a video game with virtual cars, so do whatever you want with them. There are no ethics involved whatsoever. 20 million means nothing with the current seasonals and remote racing. Paint your XJ13 fluorescent pink and camber it to the maximum if that's your thing. :D It's not like you just defiled your mother or something.

Methinks you're confusing 'ethical' with 'tasteful.' There's nothing technically wrong with adjusting a classic like that, but jeebus, there is a complete and utter lack of taste associated with it. I would imagine it's like chugging an expensive bottle of aged whiskey instead of taking a glass every now and then for special occasions. Sure...you can do that, but is that the best way to enjoy it?

I like a previous poster's comments regarding abstaining from anything that can't be undone. Though ultimately, if this guy doesn't care, these ruminations are meaningless.

Lots of times i will just do weight reduction only because that helps acceleration, top speed, braking and handling. When it comes to PP races that seems to that seems to work real good

Does the owner like it better? If yes then it's not ruined.

Do you like it better? If no then buy your own and keep it how you want it.

Or buy two and have one that is 'pristine' and one that is higher-performance. Or Chromed.

I haven't read the whole thread... so I apologize if someone else mentioned this.

I think to each their own, of course.
And I'm not discounting that with some cars, maxing them out for hp & maximum weight reduction, could be very fun... depending on the car. (I would not count any Jaguar in that category though, myself.)

BUT, IMHO, it seems like most maxed out cars in gt5 tend to become like every other maxed out car of the same class & drivetrain.
I think you get more variety, a more varied racing experience, by driving various cars that are not maxed out, as opposed to driving various cars that are all maxed out.

Whether or not there's a question of ethics involved, would depend solely on context, and is rather irrelevant to the debate about whether or not to max out a car in general.

I tune most modern cars to the max, whereas I only tune old and classic cars to a more refined car, like tuning the suspension on an E type Jaguar so it doesn't handle like a boat :)

I don't tune, unless it's a B-Spec race my drivers can't seem to win, in which I add parts that are removable so it can be reverted back to the way it was.

I always hesitate to upgrade something in the car that can not be undone.
If I have to do it, usually I will buy a second car for full tuning.

Me and my friend constantly argue about tuning cars and recently he fully tuned his jaguar xj13 to the max. He claims he's tuning it to the best of it's ability but I believe he's ruining it what do you think

That's why I buy 2 one to fully tune 1 to keep stock!

If the option to tune it is there, he can use it. I probably would.

P.S. I would probably paint my XJ13 some kind of moderate-to-bright red color too.

Depends on the car. If it's a car that I believe to be rare or I only have one of I'll generally keep tuning quite light and never anything irreversible.

I don't actually have any fully tuned cars apart from the Schwimmwagen, Kubelwagen and Type 2. Which are all fully tuned just for fun
