Sat in? I didn't sit in that car, I rode in that car.

I've ridden in more Evos than you've ever seen, including two IXs.

I know all this stuff since I'm good friends with quite a few people in the local club.

Yeah nice one but do you work under the bonnet of the car?
Hey maybe tomorrow I will go for a test drive as I go past a mitsubishi garage everyday as its by my school. I sure do see alot of evos. 260's 280's 320's 340's and golly gosh Ive even stood next to and oh wait for it touched  a FQ400.

So tomorrow if I take a test drive we should have equal knowledge on Evo's aye?

Actually I have worked on an Evo before, a simple front/rear Strut Tower Bar installation.

I still have the trunk interior from that car. Also we did the radio/gauge switch.

I got a question, Would a ARC induction air-box be better than an intake? Been hearing intakes for evo's are not good first mod to do.

ARC is badass, the box is badass, but it's the same thing.

Any time you change the amount of air going in, it works the same way.

An Intake is NOT a bad first mod, but like I said, YOU NEED A TUNE. It might flat out run like crap without a tune.
Intake + Exhaust + retune = great.
You really don't NEED a BOV, unless you're going to be running well over stock boost. Even if, JDM MR is perfect. (Because it's metal, and the stock USDM BOV is plastic)

I have seen pics where intake is really close to the engine ,wouldn't that give heated air?

Would a heat shield help?

Also been told the stock box is fine with a drop in.?

and about the BOV they told my dad he should get a better one to protect the turbo ever more supposedly

Wow Evo's must be delicate if they need a retune just for a cold air intake.

Heated air? Nah, it's fine as it is. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/kmxxbadboy/Cars/2005 Evo MR/enginestage1.jpg
See?

About the BOV.. they're just trying to make extra money by selling you crap you don't need.

A reflash can help a lot with parts like that. The stock tune on the ECU of those cars is not very forgiving when it comes to aftermarket parts.

Yeah thats what I figured.

If ever there were 3 groups of letters and numbers that should never have been mentioned together, its those......

USDM 4G63 BOV

UGH, I'm partially throwing up as I type this right now. GAAAHHH.

If you want more power out of your evo use shell optimax 98rons. They tested it along with bp ultimate and standard fuel and on the blown 4 pots the power and torque was alot higher than standard fuel making it very much worth the extra price.

FYI, the stock air intake with just a K&N drop-in filter is good enough if you are under 350WHP. If you are going to be modded and tuned above that, then you can look into changing the stock setup.

Advice and opinions are great, BUT remember, at the end of the day, it'll be you (or your Dad in this case) that will be paying for everything, so do all your research carefully.

Why not call some specific Evo tuning shops? for eg Buschur racing etc.

Granted thay may not be located where you live, but I'm pretty sure they can help point you in the right direction, as far as what the final goals are for your Dad's Evo.

$400-$600 is a pretty good est.
You just have to find a place that does it in your area.
