C'mon people. Many people think WRX are SOOOO much better than Evo's. Who ever thinks that shud get shot. Evos have less hp, but they are mucyh lighter. Someone help me out here!!!! :banghead:

You aren't hellping yourself out by not citing specifics. You can't just say "Evos have less hp, but they are mucyh [sic] lighter." You should also realize that comparing the Lancer Evo to the standard WRX isn't fair. Comapring the WRX STi and Lancer Evo is more fair.

Show me why the EVO is better, and I'll show you why the WRX STi is better.

Anyway, the weight exactly the same @ 3260 lbs (curbweight). They also have .90 turning g's, though the WRX seems to have a little understeer. If you want better straightline performance, go STi, if you want handling, go Evo.

He doesnt know much about them himself, and just posted that people around here act like they know what they say...

Plus the LAG with the Evo gets annoying after a while (Motor Trend, current issue, 1 year test), and they wish for a 6th gear. I would. The EVO's red on black guages are hard to read sometimes as well. I say they are about Even...

yeah. Car and Driver ( June '03) did a test with the Evo VIII and the new STi. they are pretty even. the STi is faster but the Evo VIII handles a bit better.

"With Millen at the wheel, the Mitsubishi Evo was faster, posting a 48.62-second run, during which Millen beat a top speed of 115 mph out of it. The best run in the Subaru STi was 48.89 seconds, with a top speed of 122 mph.

That the Subaru was faster on the straight and still posted a slower overall time mirrors our experience with lap times around the Streets of Willow road course. Those 29 extra ponies under the Subaru's flapping hood are for real. But the Mitsubishi was significantly faster than the STi through the corners. The understeer we noted on the track and road wasn't the problem on the dirt. Said Millen: "The Subaru just feels a lot more nervous than the Mitsubishi. I'm not as comfortable in it. Its responses are less predictable." And viewed from the passenger seat, Millen was obviously working harder—shuffling the steering wheel madly to correct and recorrect his driving line—to get a decent time from the STi. This was especially true over the patchy asphalt-and-dirt portion near the finish line. Of the STi, he noted, "Power off, this car's nose drifts. When I get back on the power, it feels great. It grips and pulls strongly." Millen pinned much of these shenanigans on the unpredictable torque-sensing, limited-slip front differential and a relatively slow steering ratio, requiring bigger, slower inputs"

also, did anyone else know about the Evo VIII FQ 300? i just read about it in Sport Compact Car (Oct '03).

"We ordered up a UK-spec EVO VIII FQ 300 for the task. As its name suggests, the FQ 300 has been tuned to 301 hp and 300 lb-ft torque...UK cars, by the way, also conform to the Japanese specification and therefore benefit from a sixth gear."

Yes, I have this issue. As said by C&D: "But we prefer to think of the WRX STi not as the loser but as the close second place finisher"...

They don't take into account price, do they? I think the STi is about $6,000 cheaper.

Actually they do.

Lancer Evolution 8
Base Price: $29,582
Price as Tested: $30,062

WRX STi (2004)
Base Price: $31,520
Price as Tested: $31,520

How come the WRX STi's base price is really 30,995 and the lancers is 28,987......
quite a bit off there

I'd take the imprezza..simply because the new Evo isn't as visually appealing as the past evo's...Not to mention the New Evo....is heavier than the past evo's with no more power..

They both suck equally. They look cartoonish, or something.

But, I guess if I had to choose one I'd go for the Evo unless they took that horrid hood scoop off of the STi.

Lol....well C&D has been wrong MANY MANY times in the past.....C&D Was responsible for the Stage 2 Ligenfelter only running 12's.......C&D was responsible for saying a mustang REALLY makes 390HP when it doesn't...and now C&D got the factory prices wrong...

C&D = slacking.

The scoop is functional josh... its a top mounted intercooler... hence the necesity of air flowing through the hood onto the intercooler through the "ugly" scoop...

And those big fugly wings.:odd:

LOL Klos... I too like what they add to the STi

The WRX does not only win cause of its extra horses but also because a Horizontally opposed engine beats a V anyday... Oh and of course its real AWD system...

All I have to say to you guys is that people generally underrate SUBARU. Why? I don't know. But what I do know is that Subaru speaks of class (luxury), sport and looks.

Imprezas are my craze. And all you guys who think Imprezas are 'rubbish' think again.

Impreza types:

WRX
WRX Sti
STi P1
RB5
22B STi etc.

Just wondering, which evolution 8 comes stock with heated front bucket seats and mirrors. I the WRX STi (03-04) has.
I think Imprezas do better in crash tests than evos.
Anyway got to run

If Subaru can eliminate or minimize the understeer with the STi in the future, then I bet anyone that it can beat the Evo 8 anyday :D

I know on the WRX STi Spec C, since it's 90kg's lighter, the understeer is not there :)
