Looks like there's an option to export video replays, and I put the data on a thumb drive. Anyone know if I can get it to run on a computer? OS X & PC, quicktime or vlc or something?

I have explored this. Apparently, the only reason [at present] PD is allowing you to export it outside of GT5 is to give it to a friend. You cannot view the replay outside of GT5. It is specially designed only to work in game.

Sorry

i just tried it as well, put in a usb stick and then exported my replay, to what i thought would go onto my memory stick. put the usb stick in my laptop and there is no sign of the replay ? bloody useless !

was going to upload it to youtube.

Now that this option is bogus, what do we do or rather what are we exporting the video to ? im lost

cheers

Hello all

I have been looking at this a lot lately.
As far as I can make out there is definitely NO way to view your exported replay saves outside of GT5. They are just files containing info that GT5 needs to run the replay in the game.

I wanted an easy cheap way to put replays up on YouTube for the racing team I am in and I believe I have found the cheapest and easiest way to do this.

I had a Roxio Easy VHS to DVD capture USB stick.

http://www.roxio.com/eng/products/easy-vhs-to-dvd/standard/overview.html

I simply plugged the AV lead (supplied with your PS3) into the Roxio USB then into my PC. I started up the video editing software and low and behold my Playstaion XMB was on my monitor in real-time.

I started GT5, loaded my replay and hit the capture button. It works perfectly.

You will notice that the file size of your exported replays is very small. My 5 lap race was only 4mb, as I said it only contains the information that GT5 needs to re-run the replay.
My captured video (even at a lower resolution) is 400mb.

Just a final few words, Roxio only captures in SD and not HD but it is fine for YouTube as far as I am concerned.
Also using the Roxio software to capture whilst you are playing is not great as there is a slight delay between your input and the race output, so only good for capturing "after the event"

Hope this helps.

It quick, easy and very cheap.
All the best,

Good skills Nifty1, i may have to order myself one of these soon! Didn't realise there was such a thing for backing up VHS either, so could get good use out of it from lending it to friends!

Hmm, I could buy one of these with the guise of backing up old family videos...assuming of course the old video camera still works. Then I can torture my sisters by posting old dance recital videos on YouTube, bwahahahah!
