So after reading the article, I'm still unsure about what the overall issue is. F1 dying? Its no longer exciting? Just
unsure.

Also, completely disagree about V6s, cars like the Lotus 97T and Williams FW11 are the reason why.

The only part I agree with is the teams should get a lot more of the TV revenue. That would solve a lot of problems I think.

Guys, all have a fair point .... you are not forced to sign only if you agree.
Thanks for the comments, always appreciated.
👍

Sorry I disagree with a number of their ideas, and I think their ideas may only play out in idealism, but not in reality.

In principle though, I agree F1 needs to run as a sport and not a business.

The road to hell is paved with the best intentions - about 90% of that petition guarantees the sport will die, and quickly. Why on earth would you give more control to the teams when they have a documented history of only observing agreements for as long as it takes them to find a loophole, and then throw the book at anyone else who tries to do the same thing? The off-throttle blown diffuser saga was a perfect example of this. And how can you reasonably expect fan governance to work, considering that everyone has a different opinion on what is best for the sport, as evidenced by people declining to sign the petition?

I agree with no pit communication.

Let the drivers say, i need new soft tires or i need inters.

THIS. While I'm of the opinion that Formula 1 should at least try be run as a Sport 1st and a Business 2nd, you can't expect the teams to agree on ANYTHING except that F1 should be changed to meet whatever agenda and/or avenue of R&D they want to develop (Or basically what killed Championship Auto Racing Teams in America in the early 2000's; You can't have teams run a justifiably "Fair" racing series and decide what direction their sport should go into without some kind of outside third party to keep them all in check). Also, No Radios I can kind of accept but no Pit-Signals? REALLY? When they've been a part of the sport since the 1960's?

It would make life harder for the drivers, and therefore make the races more exciting.

Ironically, it's the selfsame logic fans condemn from the FIA.

To be fair, seeing the way F1 is going now, i'd much rather have this...

Honestly, the more I read this, the angrier it makes me. They have the gall to assume that they know what it takes to make the sport better, but have displayed no evidence to show for it.

This reminds me of the backlash surrounding the Sky-BBC deal. Yes, it was upsetting for the way it was handled, but there was a core group of people opposed to it who seemed to think that live and uninterrupted coverage on free-to-air television in a prime time slot was not only feasible, but the only acceptable way forward.

I mean, the person who concocted this rubbish heap of a vision wants to slash circuit hosting fees, limit the number of races and reshape the commercial agreements so that teams can break even. That's fair enough. But then they want to open up the design and engine regulations to promote freedom, which will only drive costs up. And so we get a perfect storm where costs escalate exponentially and the perfect team-friendly business model is unable to cover the costs it is supposed to.

I suppose the real problem is the proposal is built on the idea that Bernie is trying to bleed the sport dry as quickly as possible. But am I the only one who thinks it is weird that he hasn't carved that turkey in forty years?

Why would he try to carve up the turkey that lays golden eggs?

Banning pit radio is a good idea but getting rid of Pit boards? That's silly.

For me. To fix F1 is easy.

1. Single Element Flatplane wings that act more as advertising boards than downforce elements.

2. Get rid of the Diffuser and all the winglets that crop up on the body of the car.

3. Give the drivers bigger proper tyres.

4. All tracks with run off tarmac are to dig up the first 4-8 metres of it on every corner. The first 2-4 metres is to be real grass right up against the track limit, the next 2-4 metres is to be Gravel/sand.

The trouble with this is simple. Ask someone else what they think should be done and you'll get a different answer.

I agree with a lot of their ideas but some I don't.

The 'no communication between driver and team' is a stupid idea.
So if a driver needs to pit and he comes in to change his tyres, what happens if his team aren't ready for him and he's sat there for a long time whilst they fanny about with tyre blankets.

As for drivers saying exactly what they want, tyre wars, relaxed penalties, new driver team and sharing the fees with teams and non government backed circuits are great ideas.

I would also want more than 15 races in a season though.
