Couldn't sleep, - 3AM :)
Check email - got my code, fired up steam, downloading at 10MB/Sec - 38 mins to install.

Time to eat in the meantime, then 40 mins to run it and tweak settings to run on my 6 core 3930k i7 at 4ghz and 16GB system, but with a GTX 570 1.2GB video card :(

Specs say 2GB minimum for video card, so we will see....I can run GTAV on high and Witcher 3 on medium

Then too work.... for 3 hours, and back for more!

Oh yeah update your video card drivers, Nvidia 358.91, new one does boost FO4 performance quite a bit

I must say the sound design is very good. The distant gun shot sounds add a lot, and they are from actual distant combat

Spolier free vid - a nice PC ultra overview

edit - The game set my system to medium settings and I get 40-60 fps in the pre-war section, so far so good

If you didn't play Fallout 3, I have a suggestion to make based on this experience.

Do NOT rush!

For example, in Fallout 3, there comes a time to leave the Vault. Alarms are ringing, the music is threatening, NPCs are yelling and everything is saying, "get out of here fast!". That's what I did in the first run through. I was terrified!

Don't do it. Take a save and explore at your leisure, while listening carefully for approaching enemies. There may be useful loot, there may be information, there may be learning experiences.

If this was a bad place to linger, and you die, you have that save to go back to.

Played a few hours. (Also New Zealander for the unlock :D ). Graphics are okay. Need the new drivers me thinks, mine are quite dated...

So far so good. A bit overwhelmed at the "beginning". So many options, so many ways to go,... what will I choose to make special today ;)

Really great. Don't want to spoiler anything, so I leave it at that.

I know I'll probably start over a couple of times, so I just went with a quick setup and character and off to explore a bit. 👍

Just picked up my Fallout 4 copy an I'm ready to fall in love with post apocalyptic America once again. :lol:

Do you know if there are any spoilers in ^that video?
None. Basically it shows the character creator, running to the vault, leaving the vault, some combat and the big suit thing. Along with some crafting. No story spoilers at all.

game is pretty darn good, but a PITA as far as keyboard controls go. You can't remap the arrow keys, they are assigned to the chat functions and crafting stuff. I normally like to use arrow keys for movement.
Had to use Autohotkey to swap WSAD and the arrowkeys.
No issue if your using an XBox controller, but I can't aim with those, and you can't use both at the same time....

Came across a legendary radroach in sewers :)
Then something even bigger in the next section, a softshell Mirelurk that didn't have a special name, but seem as big as a car. Damn couldn't kill it, it cut my arms off in 2 snaps - I will be back!
This was on hard level

I must say some of the AI is pretty different from past games. That deathclaw you meet early in the game, as seen in some promo videos - I tried to sit inside a building and shoot it with the minigun/power armour, since it can't reach me there, but it actually ran away and hid instead of sitting there for me to cheese kill it.... waiting for me to come out and find it, and when I did, it used hit and run tactics to try and ambush me. It can actually lift your power armour up and body slam you. Plus it also does evasive movement

---

surprised I'm getting a solid 40+ fps on my GTX 570 with 1.2GB vram
Even after setting my textures to Ultra setting and moving a few more settings higher, like shadow draw distance from medium (console settings) which doesn't show much shadows from middle distance onwards, to high

And it's not possible to do some ini-"hacking" either? Good idea about Autohotkey though. :)

Seems like all the key mapping is in some binary file, not text

here is the AHK script I use. Some extra stuff, so I can use space bar etc to send a Tab to exit, but it still also sends Space. End key to send E to pickup items etc. Insert to send R for inventory transfer
Shift + WSAD for inputting text

w::up
a::left
s::down
d::right

up::w
left::a
down::s
right::d

$+w::send, w
$+s::send, s
$+a::send, a
$+d::send, d

end::Send {end down}{e down}
end up::Send {end up}{e up}

insert::Send {insert down}{r down}
insert up::Send {insert up}{r up}

space::Send {space down}{tab down}
space up::Send {space up}{tab up}

]::tab
'::tab

----

And another script posted on Nexus that works a treat in settlement crafting mode for fast scrapping using the mouse buttons instead of pressing R etc

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/64/?

With this script you can store highlighted objects in building mode with left click and scrap them with right click.

Created with Autohotkey. Sourcecode included.

Win+V: deactivate/activate shortcuts
mouse left click: store object
mouse right click: scrap object

Kind of a hopeless question to ask here, but anyone knows how to change the language? I'm from Argentina, my brother gifted the game to me on Steam, but I just finally launched it and it's in Spanish... I want to play it in English. What do I do?

SOLVED:

For anyone who is a Steam newbie, you have to launch Steam, look for your game, right click on it, go to properties and choose the language you want to play it in. It's an hour long download for me, but I'm okay with it.

Question from a complete newb:

Is Fallout 4 more like GTA 5 or Call of Duty?
Neither. Maybe if the 2 were combined only for the open world and shooter part. But Fallout is a genre on it's own really. If it's close to anything I'd say it's close to Borderlands in terms of game-play.

Probably a bit like CoD, but even that's a stretch. Fallout I would describe as an FPS RPG. But now in FO4 you can create your own settlement so there's some sandbox aspects thrown in there.

Like what @SPhilli911 said Fallout is close to Borderlands. You scrap, loot, make, and shoot.

Technically, it's closer to GTA V than CoD, IMO. Both open world, great sense of freedom, a world that feels alive. But FO is so much more than that.

Awesome replies. Thanks for the info. Aside from sports and racing games, my extensive gaming experience is GTA Vice City and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. Enjoyed those quite a bit, but that's pretty much it.
I've played a bit of Halo and COD, but pure FPS games generally aren't appealing to me. I'm looking to expand my gaming resume and this could hit that sweet spot.

I am considering getting a Steam controller. Looking forward to hearing how that controller does with this game. One limitation for me has long been my disdain for the keyboard controls and lack of fine tune movements with a standard XBox controller.

Can't get my Pip-Boy on the iPad to connect to the Xbox. Anyone had success?

Both on the same wifi. The Pip-Boy sees the Xbox and sees its ip address. Connection requires a login to Microsoft, and I have checked that the password works on other devices. Even changed the password to be sure. Pip-Boy App is Enabled in the game. I tried restarting the game. No success.

Any ideas?

So, here's the Amazon exclusive edition being unboxed by moi...

And a video of the opening menu with the main theme. Feel free to listenonrepeat :D

More to come on my channel over the next week when I get time to play into the game

Might get a biased response as this is the FallOut thread, but...

Pick a game:
Fallout 4 OR GTA 5.
If you had to buy one today, which one?
