Had a good run of it today.
Picked up a legendary Fatman with additional radiation damage. 👍
A baseball bat from the 2077 world series (or some other year) with a "slight" chance to send the enemy flying (haven't used it to see that happen).

Also tried playing on adjusted low settings and I'm amazed how good the game still looks. Think I'm going to switch back since the locked 60fps didn't really seem any better than when I'm hold 45-60 on high settings for everything.

I'm also starting to see a bug where the entire screen goes white and black and only faint images of the surroundings are visible. It's really annoying and I'm looking forward to patches in the future (I think  ).

There is a new beta patch on Steam, you have to opt in though to get it.
Lots of fixes

But launch directly from the EXE if you want to keep your mods running
The launcher will reset any mods in the plugins.txt

I launch from the Nexus Mod Manager

The "PROTIP" came from a modder at the NexusMods Site. Its like this. If you quicksave and then you died of a mine. When you reload your quicksave, the mine will disappear. It supposed to still be there because you quicksaved before you detonated it. That happened to me. I don't know about the "fallen things" he's saying.

I did see this happen a few times at that drive in Settlement location. I died to a mine on the steps, quick load, sneak back up to find it, WTF where is it?!
I just put it down to random spawns or something

Maybe it's due to quickload

And one unrelated question. Is it at all possible to say the word Virtibird, without sounding like the Swedish chef from The Muppets?
I just want to know how many people just read this post, tried it and are now unable to speak it normally again. :D

Anyone else get really annoyed at companions ?
Been thinking of starting again and concentrate on strength so as to carry more. I came upon a fire fight between gunners, BOS and Super mutants, I waited to see who won which was the Mutants, got my sniper rifle and all I kept getting was my companion in the scope, even when told to stay in another area, my companion, after me bashing it and swearing a few times finally got spotted and in the ensuing gun battle I died.
I had the companion with me because of the loot, as I've noticed the bodies keep disappearing.
In one quest to rid a building of raiders every single one was lying down as if asleep, I literally walked around and shot them where they lay, even when some were next to each other and I used a shotgun they still never moved, and some I could not get loot off as nothing came up when the curser went over them, so as not recognised.
Love the game and though I'm on PS4, would love a mod to kill companions.

I'm still not far in the game to know their purpose. But for me having an A.I. companion that can get hurt or die in any game is equals to "escort mission". I hate escort missions.

.
Bodies disappear after a certain amount of other bodies are killed. It is supposed to be that way to prevent thousands of bodies overloading the game. The game only allows so many in the world at once. Some still stay but most disappear.

Example:
Body 1 is killed in Sanctuary.
Body 2 is killed at Red rocket.
Body 3 is killed at Red rocket.
.
.
.
A certain amount of bodies later the Body 1 will disappear. Following that would be body 2. Then body 3.

My companion is the dog and overall works great as a pack mule. Keep in mind there are certain foods and aid you can take that temporarily allow you to carry more weight. You can also upgrade your armor to hold more weight.

They help you in combat, they can carry your loot, you can get perks off them (when they like you enough) and they might, Cait for definite, have a good backstory which adds a little something to the game. You can also command them to pick locks and hack terminals, or if it's Dogmeat you can send him to find items. So... Yeah.

Oh I didn't know that. I'll definitely restart my game because I'm ignoring them from the start. But because (I don't know if its true...) I modded the damage in my game and it seems Dogmeat is getting hurt faster. Is the player's HP tied or reflected to your companion? I have +600% enemy damage to me...

Also from what I can tell your companion can never die. They just go down injured until the battle is over or until you use a stimpack on them.

Yes injured. But with that high damage mod, (if my HP is really tied to their HP) using them is just a liability. Because I have to heal them often as I've experienced. And my custom difficulty setting also includes decreased loots found and potency of meds/foods.

Once the battle is over, they get back up. Or you can use a stimpack to pick them up immediately if you need them.

They really get up? After the battle was over, Dogmeat is still hurt and not getting up so I left him. Because I'm annoyed of using stimpak on him every 3 seconds of fighting. Maybe just the mod acting up. I don't know.

Had to start over. Found my game save was corrupted. I regularly clean old game saves out, so I couldn't find a good one to load.
I've been having problems with corrupt saves for a while, and it'll always be the most immediate file when I start up. I now save two times before I quit, one quick save and one hard save.

It would make sense that because you have the possibility to now die much faster, so do they. You modded damage, not companion HP.

Yes they still get up, they even get back up during battle I believe as well. I never, ever, ever use any healing items on my companions, it's a waste.

@ImaRobot That's what I'm thinking too. Maybe the damage multiplier also affects the companions. Thanks for the advice. I won't heal them unless its really needed. I thought I have to heal them because they're not getting up. Maybe the problem is just me being impatient.

You playing on such a high damage multiplier, you might just need to heal them once in a while. I only play on normal as this is my first Fallout game, so I wanted to get acquainted with the series before I move up. That said, on normal, it's not a necessity for me.

It usually takes a minute or two for the companion to realize the battle is over. Once they feel it is secure, they get up.

Same thing with Settlers that have official names aka "Trashcan Carla". They also can not die. However, settlers that just say "Settler" can for sure die.

Sounds like it may be an issue of timing. On my Xbox, I see that I can continue to progress during the save process (as indicated by the message top left of the screen). Maybe the mine was there at the commencement of the quick save, but by the time the quick save got to saving the mine's state, it had gone. A quick save is quick, but not instantaneous.

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll wait until the message disappears before moving on, if that's at all feasible!

Just found this about Trashcan Carla. Watch the video too.

Now I'm REALLY regretting taking her money early in the game. She just calls me a robber and shuts me out as others have also experienced.

BTW, I did find her wandering near Boston, so I picked her pocket and took all her caps. Just because she annoys me. Had a 60% chance and it worked. Unless she learns better manners, this will happen again.

Yes I wish I would have known that dialog would have been to steal her money. I had no idea and usually doing the dialog works out for the best. Oh well. Now I just get....."oh the robber, I paid up so get lost". I forgot that I actually nuked her in one of my videos and she did actually die. But then I re-loaded a save.
So I stand corrected.

"Traders" with names CAN die.
"Settlers" with names can NOT die.
Companions can NOT die.

Hmmm...if I remember, I quicksaved way wayyy before the explosion (5-8mins ago?) so I think its not that. Though your explanation must be true in some cases. Very good thinking there. 👍

Thanks for that bit of useful info.

Next time I find her away from the settlement, I will kill her before I pick her pockets. No witnesses!

Yes I know about food and chems, plus the upgrades but I am regularly hitting a weight of 800+ just from the dead, which is why I have used every companion I have been able to and hate the lot of them.
I should have explained more clearly about bodies, I mean that after I have killed the bodies disappear, some have done the flying trick, but it's when the fallen evaporate straight away and not over time, as is the norm, otherwise like you say, there will be bodies every where. It's when you shoot some one go to the body and it's gone.

On another note, while wandering I saw mini nuke explosions, sneaked up and there were Gunners attacking some Mutants who in turn were attacked by the BOS in the air and by armoured vehicle, didn't want to get involved so waited and I got attacked by Raiders, it was a hell of a running gun battle, I lost count after twenty five dead, not all mine, needed a few beers afterwards.

I haven't much issues with companions like some of you have. They seem fine to me.

Now why can't we do those moves?

Would work great for my Bruce Lee character....
I had Dogmeat chase after a baddie while he was supposed to be leading somewhere. It was such a pain in the ass trying to find him. I ended up running into as he was still chasing the same enemy, but it was like 15 minutes later  They should really add a little blip to the compass if your companions get too far away.
