edit- just noticed the inverted T500rs pedal mounted directly to your Rennsport stand it appears? The T500rs-WSP does not do that

I also mentioned the protocols, they won't invest in a new protocol if the old one is doing the job well. Everyone is trying to keep the cost down and the drawbacks of nowadays consoles is not the protocol, nor it is the port used for controllers. It is basically the CPU, the RAM memory, the GPU etc., so these are the main concerns.
 
True... however we don't know what advances in technology could be coming our way in the future both from games...consoles and hardware.

You never change things that work properly. Sony and Microsoft wouldn't change the ports or the protocols of the consoles because that would upset most of the customers that use 3rd party controllers and media devices (hard drives, memory sticks, hubs etc.) and they sure do not to upset anyone who pays them. The interface might be USB 3.0 or USB 4.0 but it WILL be back compatible with all USB devices, period.

I don't think the issue will be what happens USB.....the question is what will Microsoft do wireless wise and the protocol there. The reason the Fanatec wheels connect wirelessly isn't a choice made by Fanatec.......Microsoft insists that it be that way as they choose not to support USB connection of any wheel on the XBOX. And if one thing is known......Microsoft is all about making money.....I wouldn't put it past them to change the wireless protocol to force everybody who buys the next gen Xbox to have to shell out for new controllers........gaming accessories is huge business and the profits reaped from that would quickly pay for development of a new protocol.

I really wonder if this will be the case as XID was also used on the original XBOX. Still we aren't able to use our XBOX controlers on Xbox 360. Bare in mind you had to use an usb adapter as the Original box had a proprietary connector.

We can mearly speculate but fact remains that we simply can'tbe sure if our peripherals will be supported on the next generation console.

You and me we don't but console companies sure do and the prototypes are already being tested. And no matter what is the new technology there is always a place for the old technology as no revolutions are predicted any time soon.

Even if the new consoles will have all new ports etc there will still be at least one port where you could stick your old gear, and this is the way everything works now.

Therefore I'm pretty sure my CSR Elite wheel will work on my PS4 or XBOX720640 :)

It is so much better to perform comparisons this way. I know not everyone would be able to do such but you get an instant feel for the differences. Kinda like, err you know how getting off one bike and onto another feels.

While not still long enough imo, I will be doing 4 hours of testing GT5 tonight. I am faster with the "F" wheel but this is partly down to the paddle gears being mounted and the load cell of the CSRE pedals. Also I havnt used the T500RS in a bit. No details will be forthcoming until the review is published.

Both are set to max FFB all options like TC off and only 1 for ABS.

Later in the week will see testing with F1 2011 and Dirt 3
Waiting for the patch for F1 2011 to release however PS3 version has not been getting great reports. Lets see what the patch does but hopefully things between console version wont interfere with the subject of comparing each wheel on each platform and the CSRE on both.

Looking forward to you guys getting in on the testing.
 
Well Vita is launching with its own overpriced memory cards so I don't think Sony is whiter than white.
 
I would not anything past Sony. There is always the PC, but if you are spending $800 on a CSW+CSP... it would be comforting to know.

I'm afraid it's very unlikely that information will be made available any time soon.
These consoles are under heavy lock and key. Also factor in that these things are subject to last minute changes anyhow.
 
I'm gonna go for pc instead if next gen I think... Not sure yet but with compatibility a possible issue it makes sense.

And the games should be better :)

I'm ashamed to say i'm not very computer savy, thats the only reason I console. Consoles are cheap (relative to gaming CPUs) and besides software updates, the lifespan on consoles is getting longer and longer. The experts say the next console lifespan could be up to 15 years! I don't know if i believe that but the reason why people buy the consoles is they level the playing field for the people like me who even if i had the money for a top of the line gaming computer probably couldn't figure out all the complexities of installing updated drivers, firmware updates, handshake issues, etc, etc that is so easy to plug-n-play with a console. although CPU run games are superior in every way, they aren't the cash cow. Developers make games for the consoles because thats where the money is. No matter how fast your graphics card is, or what version of DirectX22 is- the fact is you're most likely still playing a game that was developed for console hardware that has been adopted to also run PC (even if the PC does it better) Non computer minded people just want to push the big green X button on the front and play, no issues please! Man I've got a bad habbit of getting off topic, sorry! Back to the Fanatec stuff please!

I caved and pre-ordered the CSR Elite Wheel. I also gifted a friend of mine a RennSport Wheel Stand a bit early. I think it could be fun to have him bring his stand over and do a lot of direct comparison. As it stands (hur, hur), we'd be able to compare a Logitech Driving Force Pro, Porsche 911 Carrera, Porsche 911 GT2, and eventually the CSR Elite Wheel.

And hats off to you for your dedication and work. Though I'm guessing you're loving your "job" right now.

Hey, no need to feel bad. I've just upgraded my PC to modern spec and appreciate its gaming prowess, but I'm never going to tell you it's the only way to play. It's actually really impressive that the Xbox 360's 2005 spec hardware is still relevant today. I mean, Battlefield 3 can run on it and look pretty decent doing it.

And with all the money you saved you can focus on your sim gear. 👍
 
There are rumors that new xbox will use windows as a platform and xbox live will be integrated to windows.(PCs can connect xbox live in future and this confirmed by major nelson) Windows platform could make using non XID devices easier with xbox. Rumor also tells that 720 unit will have 6 asymmetric cores and will be shown to public in late 2012.

We are now at the point where some PC games seem to limited by the console development but most new games are pulling away graphically from the consoles.(e.g. BF3) So I would not be surprised if next gen rumors were true.

I have really been enjoying it a lot indeed.
Best thing is I havn't played many games a great deal lately being so busy.
So I think that is adding to the fun as well.

Having the dual setup definitely will add towards being able to express things better in the review. I've recorded some notes on my iphone while playing timetrials which seems silly but it allows me to comment in whats happeing on the wheel used at different parts of the track. Expect a very detailed report but nothing long winded. I need to convey what Im saying with better writing skills too, yeah that is an area that I need to improve on.

These wheels/pedals are two very different beasts. Will do further tests and reduce the FFB down a little on both wheels to see if it helps increase the detail in the felt effects and while I normally play with max as a habbit I understand many prefer a setting lower. Perhaps go for 70% in next set of tests. Then compare to my previous notes made.

One concern, with the lack of practice and recent playtime I feel maybe I am well off a decent pace. By no means am I a quick racer, maybe a good average at best. Yet I feel I need to get upto a reasonable pace to know Im pushing the wheel to something half respectable. If some want to help give me an idea of a laptime for the below (you should be able to work out what track it is eh).



Ideas or comments welcomed for car/track combinations anyone would like to see used in the upcoming reviews?

Maybe the x1 would be good due to strength LOL..

I use nurb gp f and lmp cars as its my favourite track/car

your report is very interesting. A lot of thanks for that! 👍 Have you an old Fanatec steering wheel like the GT3 RS V2 or the GT2? If you have it, can you make a comparison from the CSR Elite to the older steering wheels too? I have the GT3 RS with the CSP. I would buy a CSW and would drive to Landshut in Germany to test the CSW (Thomas told me, that I can do this, but I have to telephoning before), but it would be nice to read your impressions before of the CSR Elite (I hope the CSW has the same feeling (FFB and Rumble) as the CSR Elite). :)

One of my PS3 consoles has pretty much no career on it (multimonitor purpose) so limits the cars available.

Hi Roadie, just a quick post and recap, this was listed recently in how/what some of the tests will involve.

My PWTS is a V1 and first batch shipment.
Remember others will have their tests coming too so you should be spoilt on GTP soon with info on these new wheels and peoples own true accounts of their performance. Many of the guys here I think will do very credible reviews, as this is what we love doing.

You are aware are you not Mr Latte, that Forza is currently waiting a patch?

People are reporting issues with sensitivity and such. Seems to alter from car to car too.
May give you a headache under test conditions.

Just a heads up.
 
Yeah that's the tricky thing I expect most folks to be faster with the CSR-E wheel due to the mere fact they have the attached paddles and the CSPs. I'm not sure how everything would have gone if I would have stuck with my T500RS+T500RS pedal combo in iRacing but I know with my T500RS+CSP combo I am now having a very modestly successful racing career. I am currently at the top of my division in the Grand Am Racing series at iRacing and getting closer and closer to hitting the top times these 'aliens' are putting up

So my point is I imagine a CSR-E + CSP combo will be really effective for the mere fact you can use CSPs on all platforms plus enjoy a top line wheel thats no doubt just as good as a T500RS or better. Note, I still do not have my CSR-E wheel yet as yall know so I am just making intelligent guesses from hints I see here & there.

It is unfortunate the T500rs f1 rim is so expensive. I would've loved to compare that to the CSR-E. But wife would hurt me if I blew money on ordering that right now as well. I already told her I plan to keep the CSR-E when it arrives. :dopey:


edit---- Thomas where is the CSS? That is the only thing I see the CSR-E/CSW missing right now. Crickets have been chirping in regards to news bout it. Come on LAtte you have hacked into Fanatec's computer I am sure you know the deal lol

What do you suggest?

I can only report how things are at the time of testing, its not a headache at all, why would it be mate? T10 seem to be saying its something they need to fix in software rather than Fanatec. By all means let me know what cars or settings people are having problems with. I have not been following discussions on it or link a thread. Such matters are important to be covered and not sidestepped.

How have other reviews you have read regards the CSR commented on or tackled this?
I read some CSR reviews but do not quite remember it being covered or if it was certianly not in much depth.

F1 is also due a patch which I was holding off on before testing/comparing that game.

Regards the CSS, I think Thomas needs to get this out before end of 1st QTR 2012.
While it may not yet be ready to release I do think Fanatec need to up the profile/awareness concerning it. They have already enough on their plate though.

We already have one member on these forums prepared to do his own mod solution for the TH8 and thats an attractive shifter getting good reviews with his mod could be used on all PS3/X360 games. That could eat into potential Fanatec sales.


Question is how bad does my time posted with that car suck, let me know guys.

With the Forza problem it seems as though there is a strange linearity going on.

Seems as though quite a bit of initial steering is required to get the car to turn in, more than say GT5. Some cars feel plain odd. I had issues with the lotus 2 eleven around Nurb GP at one particular corner. No matter what I did I couldn't keep my desired line.

Personally use Raudis work around and run between 450/360 degrees.
This is purely my feel.

I only mention it because no doubt someone will ask you about it during your review.

Will try out some cars later at 900 degrees and see if I can recommend something.

I agree it's a T10 issue too.

Same problem was in the demo after doing 900 degree "fix". As result the Ferrari felt like driving a tractor. Cars just don't feel as connected to road with wheel in F4 compared to GT5 or LFS.

Update on Wheel Issues
As I’ve mentioned on the forums, we are aware of a number of issues with the 900-degree wheel and its interactions with Forza Motorsport 4. In the weeks since the launch of Forza 4, we have been investigating these various issues in preparation for our upcoming second title update for the game. This title update will address a number of different issues in Forza 4, including issues associated with 900-degree wheels. Look for more detail on this title update in the coming weeks.

I had noticed someone say somewhere using multiscreens with a wheel also caused an issue as well. My own playing, hasnt been greatly extensive yet with the game but did detect that using low wheel rotations had a sensitivity issue in being over sensitive. I have not confirmed this via another wheel to determine if it was an issue with the wheel used at the time. Not sure if this was multiscreen related so maybe some others can confirm here if they have had some weird quirks and multiscreens, mayaman?

All my tests will be done via single screen and with no tactile that I have being used.
 
Try Raudis work around.

Have your Forza setting on the wheel mapped to setting 1

Have a second setting with a SENS setting of less than 270.

Start Xbox first, then wheel as we all know.

Start up Forza and get your self on track.
Pause the game whilst driving.

Ok, now turn off your wheel.
Restart your wheel, have your setting 2 set on wheel.
Link to Xbox.

Unpause game and change your wheel setting back to your Forza one.
I use 450/360 degrees.

Try that.
 
Thanks will do, though did you guys try starting the game via controller then disconnecting the controller when the game loaded. Then just turning on the wheel (not in dash) but when the game was loaded with a 270 preset. The wheel always disconnects/reconnects when you pass the 270 X360 wheel default.

Does it make any difference always ensuring 270 is set when going back to main menu and prior to the game loading up a new track etc? Just wondering the depth of things people have tried?

No doubt they will fix the issue but people have to remember I dont think the new wheels had very much testing during the games development at all. It would of been nicer to have a lot of beta testing done via T10/Fanatec much sooner.

This is not in the hands of Fanatec though and T10/Microsoft are unlikely to give out beta downloads for various secuirty reasons during development.
 
I only ever do the set up once per session.
Unless I've left my console and it's timed out, then I redo the mess about.

I've not tried. SENS set to off come to think of it. Hmm.
