I just read Thomas post to his blog and don't understand what he means when he said "Xbox functionality is not a feature. Its a religion." ??? Can anyone clarify what that statement means, is this definately not going to be on the CSW then?

Its not something that you simply just add. As in you simply do not go from being a Muslim to being Jewish. Or like how you don't go from speaking English to speaking Spanish in one day.

I'll put it to you this way. The PS3 knows English. The PC knows English. The Xbox 360 knows Spanish. The CSW only knows English, while the CSRE knows both Spanish and English.

If the next xbox learns a different language, so will the CSRE and CSW. If it learns English the CSW will work with it. If it stays Spanish the CSRE will still work and the CSW will have to learn Spanish somehow, but it won't be easy, although it is possible.

Confusing enough for you. :p

He means that XBOX compatibility isn't a feature that can be just thrown into a wheel on a whim......there are guidelines that have to be followed and stuck to.

Some people in the blog we're thinking that adding XBOX compatibility to the CSW would be simply a matter of plugging in an extra control board and bam......XBOX compatibility!

It's not that simple......it constrains the overall design of the wheel and it's feature set.

aha!!! as you say yourself you think it sticks out 1-2cm, so definitely over 1cm. now if it sticks out anything over 1cm then the wheel has to be over 315mm, also the wheel does not have to stick out 5cm(5.5cm to be exact) for it to be a 350mm wheel, it only has to stick out half of that size because when making a circle larger size gets added all over and not just on one side. so 5.5cm is how much bigger the wheel has to be from the base in order for it to be a 350mm wheel, but it only needs to extend 2.75cm from the base on both sides and not 5.5 cm.

trust me, the actual size of the BMW rim is 315mm! Don't know if Fanatec change it to 350mm at release but for now it is 315mm.. I hope the discussion now ends with this statement!

why cant the discussion carry on? its not getting nasty or anything, and as far as i can see this is the correct thread for it too.

As far as I know it's not a limitation of any technology but more something to do with the licensing. There was some mention at one point that you're not allowed to have more input possibilities than a 1st party device. I don't know if this is so that compatibility be easier to achieve, limit cheating attempts or something else. I just know that it's a restriction more to do with policy than something that can be fixed with hardware.

What's the point of discussing the size of something after someone has categorically told us it's size?

am i missing something? does simracer work for fanatec? or does he have the bmw wheel in his possession?

There are two people that are known testers on this forum. One is me and the other... Right. It's also been said at the beginning of the discussion by amf7 who the testers are. So you mist something. Well at least the confusion caused a nice discussion to amuse ourselves with during the day.

So the CSW beta test has already begun???

So the CSW beta test has already begun???

I never said that, but a logical conclusion would be that at least there are a few samples out there now which have been looked/unboxed by the receivers. If they were allowed to try it out right away is a different matter. Still it would be logical that if as a producer of products you send out samples to test, they would get tested from the day the tester receives one. So it is likely that more tests are being conducted as we speak then since the time Darin showed us the CSW first indeed.

Who's the other tester then?

I am a community tester for the CSW still playing with his T500 RS unfortunately. I'll leave it up to the rest if they want to come forward and tell if they do beta or community tests. The latter being pretty much testing the final product in proper packaging, while the first isn't finished completely and doesn't have nice packaging.

A warm and gooey Snotgobbler....thanks for sharing.:yuck:

Scotty

Lmao. I am glad I never choice such a nickname.
I hope he haven't had breakfast before reading that message, Scotty. I would like you to beam up that breakfast due to it. Would be a waste of good food. ;)

I wouldn't foul my transporter with the likes of it, unless that's an order Captain.:)

Scotty

Save it for another day mister Scott, for another that. That is an order. ;)

Hey, don't blame me - I didn't come up with my nickname/gamertag. My dad used to call me that as a kid, for some reason. I've no idea why... :sly:

Well even though your dad gave you that nick at a young age doesn't mean you have to stick by it in all sanity at a later age. ;)
The reason must be because you gobbled snot one time but forgot about it yourself or something like that. Or maybe it's just how he sees kids. Heh, maybe you should ask him some time for the heck of it.

Ontopic: Just a random question, but which is the best wheel for drifting on the market? Is it a DFGT, G27, T500 RS, CSR or the CSR Elite? Oh wait, the embargo lifts next week not this one. Scrap the elite for now then.
I am just curious in if there is much difference for drifting apart from the speed of the wheel.

T500 RS from what I have seen. It seems to turn the fastest, which is technically important for drifting. That does not mean anything in regards to feel though, which I have a sneaky suspicion the the CSRE/CSW will have an edge.

You would think most of the people reading would of realised such or that some of us know the weight differences involved in the rims which like any modified G25/G27 or other wheels effects the FFB and wheel rotation speeds.

I would pay attention to what Simracer92 might say.

I know the CSR has an adjustable drift mode that makes the steering respond quicker, but I haven't messed with it (hate drifting) so I can't comment on how well it works.
