LOL. Do some searching, you'll find that F1 memorabilia is super expensive. My dad and I built quite a collection in the past, and none of it was as cheap as that wheel. But that wheel is a replica too, not the real thing. Real-deal race used gear is EXPENSIVE.
 
Yeah i remember mark webber winning a race a couple years ago and throwing his helmet into the crowd where a young boy caught it. i remember thinking - college fund!

Ok, so what exactly are we looking at here, will this work similar to the TH8 with removable faceplate to switch between sequential and 6/7 speed? Clearly the way it's shown there isn't enough travel for it to work as a manual gearbox, but it looks like a wonderfully solid construction so far.
 
I believe that is the final plate and will work for manual shifting, there just won't be too much travel, which sounds good to me.
That said, it is hard to predict how much throw it will really have, because you don't know how much the shifter rod extends inside the housing and where the center of the axis is.
 
^^ If that's the case I'd be concerned about how easy it could be to mis-shift between 1st/3rd/5th and 2nd/4th/6th, plus a reverse slot all within 5-6cm range... that doesn't seem like much fun, nor very simulation-like.

That is plenty of travel. If you want something like a Honda or Porsche style throw that is all you need.

Hmm, I don't think Honda and Porsche should be but in the same sentence... so what "style" is that? What would BMW or Nissan or Ferarri be categorized as then ?

And traditionally "throw" is more or less the vertical distance of gear engagement speed vs. the horizontal.

Even when the gearbox and shifter on the NSX is considered one of the best. Even Ford used the feel on the NSX shifter as the goal for the Ford GT.
 
Wait for the reviews before you speculate whether or not it will provide enough travel. cant judge that by a picture alone. plus i am sure with the quality products that fanatec have put forth in the past they havent overlooked that important aspect. i would wager a pretty good amount that they tested it first to make sure it felt like a proper H-pattern should.

I will eat my running shoes if the CSS has an abnormally short throw distance. Their goal is to build a shifter with a realistic feel, so having a realistic throw distance is an obvious requirement that would not be over looked.

Yes there is to my eyes. The small bit inside might fool you in the picture. Just imagine stick using all the area of the top plate.

So finally the show gets on the road I suppose. Let us hope we can start soon. Although currently I have a lot of work on my hands with my car as its nice spring weather outside, so good to clean the car and fix a few things. I will try to keep an eye on this topic a bit more from now on.

You could always rent a Ferrari 458 Italia for the low low price of $8900 Euros for 3 days...

If I had the money I would do it with hesitating though. I think the perfect rental car for something like this would be an Evo or STi. Fast enough to have fun yet safe enough so you don't kill yourself.

Thomas, I am pretty sure the Nurburgring has simulators at the track. You should bring you CSW and show it off to the people at this track day.

We are now making prototypes of more CSR E rims but I have not tested anything yet. April is still possible for the CSW if we fly in some wheels and nothing goes wrong with the tests af the latest samples.

As soon as we find significant problems we need to make another round of prototypes and this takes time. So far we only have a few assembly and firmware issues which can be fixed with the current series of wheels so it looks not too bad.

We developed the wheels for over 2 years so a 4 months delay is relatively short in relation to that but I am aware that we need to get it done now.

Not currently available on the US site. If you want them you can check eBay or other second-hand sources.

There is speculation that they won't be getting re-stocked on the US website because the ClubSport Pedals V2 will be released soon. That's just internet talk though, so I wouldn't count on it.
 
ooh, can't wait for the CSW to come out! I'm not going to switch from my CSRE, but the faster we see the CSW, the faster we see the CSS and hopefully versions of the GT rim and formula rim for the CSRE!
 
If I had the money to waste, the day that I get my CSW I would detach the wheel rim from my CSR-E set it on fire, launch it 100ft in the air, and launch a SAM at it. I hate it that much.

Can't wait for the CSW with some actual high quality wheel rims.

Wow, that's a lot of hate, I know it is not a very refined wheel rim but it has some good points too. Let's just wait and hope that Fanatec will release a GT rim for the CSR E after they release the CSW which I believe will be the case.
