Hope I am not bugging you with questions, but do you know the difference between the Fanatec CSP firmware updates you directed me to?

When updating my pedals on Sunday, I noticed there were a selection to choose from based on dead-zone settings. I chose No.1 but there were approximately 5 to chose from. (0,1,2,3,10 from memory?)

Thanks in advance,

Nigel

They're just different levels of default deadzone (without adjusting the knob on the CSP's)...

;)

Hoping someone can help... just saw this thread and started the update for the latest firmware but I can't get step 2 to work. I've gone through step 1 of the updater, have the windows driver installed (this is Windows 7 x64) and the wheel is recognized, but when the command prompt comes up in step two it just stays empty and nothing happens. I've left it sitting for many minutes and nada.

Any ideas?

:edit: Haha, never mind! I tried it one more time after posting this and it worked! Weird...

p.s. This is all that's in the log:

"Enter bootloader

Reading Target Device ID."

Ensure no firewall etc running (actually any background tasks)
Try putting in sub directory off of root directory ( c:\)

Basically a few things can interfere, see 911wheel.de, you will see some of the probs people have had an ome solutions

Thanks, it went through on the third try. I'm thinking maybe deleting the log.txt file did it.

Anyway, definitely a big improvement in feel. I'd definitely recommend folks give it a shot.

What kind of improvement in feel?

The FF effects felt very muddy and unclear previously. Now the effects feel much more sharp. Not night and day, but an improvement for sure.

This is over whatever firmware shipped on the wheel, FWIW, years ago.

Hi everyone. Just noticed this thread. I am a new Fanatec wheel owner & am getting used to it. I appreciate all here who have posted good questions, & of course to all those who have the answers. All my questions have been answered by reading through the thread.

I turned off the SHO per DR, and I think it's the right call. Seems to be poorly implemented in the PS3/GT5 currently. Much less muddy now.

I've ended up with the following (FW 681)

Sens -- 900
FF -- 100
Sho -- 0
Dri -- 2
Dea -- 20
Lin -- 0
Spr -- 0
Dpr -- 0

Simulation, PS = off, & FF=5 in game. Haven't messed with Lin/Spr/Dpr enough to say what difference it makes -- I tried changing them in game while just cruising and can't say I noticed a huge difference at the time.

Now I just need the pedal tuning kit to get here so I can change out the spring on the gas pedal as it's way to weak for my tastes. Hard to be sensitive on the gas with so little resistance imo.

Is there any way to apply a dead zone to the pedals? It doesn't look like it... I'm getting a bit of fluttering brake application when the FF shakes the wheel.

Is this something that would be fixed by the potentiometer glue mod thing?

p.s. These are the cheapo pedals that come with the Turbo S.

When it does arrive... I highly recommend using the softest clutch spring for the gas. Really helps in modulating the throttle more effectively.

;)

Is the softest clutch spring stiffer than the hardest throttle spring?

Absolutely.

Even the hardest throttle spring was far too light, in my opinion.

;)

I just switched the clutch spring with the throttle spring and it's perfect. Just be warned it's a bitch to get the clutch spring back in.

Just got an email today saying they're shipping me my paddles and pedal kit, so if anyone else had them on order they're probably on their way. Now I just have to dig up that thread that I believe DR made reviewing these. \o/

That's funny. I also got an email saying my paddles were on their way.

Dig up, you say?...

Enjoy the tuning kit. It made all the difference in the world, for my setup.

I've been looking all over on the net and I can't find an explanation (even the manual has nothing) on wtf SPR and DPR do. I've found pretty good details on what everything else is... but these must have been added in a firmware update and not really documented.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Yeah this stuff is with the latest firmware so you wont find it in the official printed docs. Maybe at fanatec's site. I know he kinda' explains it. I think it's more for the hardcore sim games. But supposedly SPR i think helps a bit with this game.

Kind of off topic, but what are the degrees of rotation used in super GT/GT cars (in real life)? 360? I know that the LMP use something close to 270, like F1 cars.

SPR = Center Spring Strength
DPR = Damper Strength

;)

what's damper strength do though?
soften the FF?

Here's a little clip showing how bad FF GT5 puts out.
I hope they will include better wheel support i future patches.
If the only supported wheel is the DFGT, then they shouldn't call it the "real driving simulator" :grumpy:.

I have been very pleased with the FF on my PWTS in GT5 other than at High Speed Ring which appears to be directly ported from GT5P - see sawing FF and all! No deadzone at all (20 at High Speed Ring - nice to be able to quickly adjust this stuff in game!).

Last night I tried to do the license test on Eiger with the yellow Lancer (downhill braking, I think) and although I had played it before with no problem on a controller, with the wheel I couldn't keep the car straight at all! The feedback was overpowering. On a normal paved track my settings are very generic: 10 on FF in GT5 and 100 on the PWTS, no deadzone, drift, or any other options. SHO at 60-70ish, ABS at 10-20ish. I love these normally - but even after turning the SHO and FF on the PWTS to 0 I still was fighting the wheel - seems odd for so much of a difference.

Just wanted to give major props to fanatec. I broke my 6 speed shifter off at the base and they are sending me a new one even though it's been over a year since purchase. You guys rock!! 👍
