Fat PS3 Issues

Had to buy a brand new super slim 500gb because my fat ps3 wouldnt run gt6

Well Tekken Tag 2 heavily crippled my old '06 60Gb Fat, it won't run any PS3 or PSN games anymore without crashing and shutting down. I'm hopefully getting a 500Gb Super Slim to make up for that.

Have my copy for two days now and as soon i enter the first race the ps3 shuts down with 3beeps.

If i skip the first race and enter the menu and buy the Honda it crashes after the start of the race.

I have a 1st day PS3 Phat 60G and yesterday for the first time i opened it and changed the thermal paste ( or the lack of it).

I assembled it again but to my sorrow it crashed on the first race again.

Don't know what to do more.

I didn't try the GT 6 demo but i read some people had this exact same error.

Another thing, i can play all kinds of games, even GTA5 and Last of Us, but there is one that makes the exact same thing - Uncharted 3.

You make it sound like didn't consistently nudge the fan speed lower and lower with each firmware on the ONLY the Fat models to help along the process.

I must be one of the few lucky ones then. My Fat PS3 60GB is still running strong after all these years (It's one of the few that still has PS2,PSX backwards compatibility). Fingers crossed it won't break down on me during the next couple of days.

Update: As a precaution I just ordered a PS3 Super Slim (12GB with the 500GB HDD Caddy) from amazon

gotta love the super slims...no digital optical out anymore..yay for all those who own audio systems somehow not connected to the tv or something. glad my slim still works and when it stops working, ill play on my fat 40gb, if that too stops working, ill buy a used slim. but a super slim? never ever ever on that

Lol, mine has an optical port...
I thought that was feature on all super slims???

My PS3 actually had YLOD a few weeks ago, but I got it repaired - a "reball" - and it's worked fine (and much quieter) since. Anyone else in a similar situation?

mine shut down for 1st time in over 6 years i have 60gb fatty from september 2007
it shut down after about 2h of gt6, cleaned it and new thermal paste will se how it goes from here

I will have to say, still using my Original Day One console playing GT6/GTA 5/ BF4/Ghosts/ ACIV and i have literally no problems bar PSN still being overloaded. Switched out HD for an old 500Gb laptop one when the motherboard went bang. Did have a disc reader problem but not for about a year now so its all about the user.

Oh and I've pretty much played it everyday, many thousands of hours used.


Edit. The original HD suxs so replace asap in fats

My roommate has a fat PS3 and he has trouble playing BF3 and TLOU. And his GTA takes forever to load.

Do you know when he bought his? Because my fat PS3 I bought in 2009 has no issues running The Last of Us.

I had this problem back when the GT academy demo came out in June... I opened up my PS3 and cleaned it out but to no avail.. Eventually I changed my HDD (I'm suspicious that was the cause of my freezes), and I have yet to try GT6 again but GTA 5 works perfectly!

My (end of the run) Fat has had no issues because of TTT2, or GTA5 or the Academy demo for that matter. I think that I'll be ok on this one to.

EDIT: I think the fan speed has been increased recently though, my fans been running a bit louder than usual.

My 40GB fat runs with no issues. Doesnt even get warm.

Same boat as you Numer!! Got mine on Day 1 when the fatty's came out, she's still purring lika a kitten.
Probably just cursed myself, but oh well .

My launch model already shut down 2x within a couple hours. Never during racing but when I was messing around in the menus.
Took it to the garage and used the air compressor. It was overdue.

Flashing red light has nothing to do with PD. It's the dreaded YLOD. My fattie died after 20 or so hours of remote B-spec some years ago and I bought a new slim. Resurrected the fat one 14 days ago using the oven method, 200 degrees celsius in a preheated oven for 10 mins. Have used it for GT5 since then without issues and now with GT6 for 2 days.

My 60'GB fat PS3 I've had since release just can't handle the game, I get out the pits right at the start of the game in the Clio and my PS3 shuts down.

With other newer games like GTA5 if I've left my PS3 on for 5 minutes in pretty much over heats and only reads certain discs.

£210 down the drain just to play GT6, GTA5 and F1 2013 in truth .

Edit: Having actually read the other comments seems like most other people have done it

I have a 80 GB fat PS3 that plays PS2 and PSX games and i had it since 2008 and it still works perfectly.

its not the dreaded YLOD as you say , the ps3 runs perfectly fine with every other game and has never crashed once since owning it from day one. its this game

No he is correct, it's this game. I had the same issue with the GT Academy demo. I could play any other game in the world without any issues except this.. even GTA 5 runs flawlessly.. but something is wrong in this game. Odd.
