Favorite Beer - Domestic or Import

I'm not a big fan of beer based on my experiences with it. I've had some light beers, some normal domestics (Labatt Blue), Corona, and Bavaria (or whatever the Brazilian beer is called). But they all tasted like lousy, bitter soda water to me. If I wanted to get drunk, I'd much rather drink some shots of vodka instead of beer.

I don't drink anymore, but I do have a beer once in a blue moon. When I do, it's one of the following.

Import: Grolsch Bok Beir - Sweet, thick and malty,
Domestic: Old Baldy Brewing Dry Stout - Real Stout drinkers would be offended, but the taste and finish is very similar. It's not as "heavy" as true Irish stouts are. I'll also drink Coors if OBB is out of my favorite.

I don't really drink beer anymore, not that I used to drink lots of it in the first place. I've been quite disappointed with most beers. I don't like any of the Canadian domestics, and about the only import I like is Guinness. Guinness was my absolute favourite, but I can't seem to get any pubs around here to serve it as it's supposed to be: WARM.

So most of what I've been drinking for the last couple years has been Smirnoff Ice. Specifically the Canadian version of Smirnoff Ice: 7.0% alc./vol., mixed with real Smirnoff vodka, and not some 5.0% alc./vol. 'malternative' crap you get in the States.

and yeah....thats all i can think of now. i like a lot of imports but i dont remember a lot of their names.....its real uncommon stuff though. my uncle is kinda of a beer nut. lol.

Guiness is not technically a beer. I personally think it's the most disgusting thing I have ever allowed past my lips, but that's my opinion. But I still don't think it belongs in a "Favourite Beer" thread. Sorry if that offends anyone, but it's true.

Molson Canadian's a great beer. I tried those Cold Shots, they've got a pretty strong alcohol taste, but good for getting a buzz quickly. Start with one of those then move to regular beer and you've got yourself a great afternoon!

I just tried a new beer tonight called Guinness. I had heard about it quite a bit and was a little skeptical. So I bought a 6 pack and brought it home.
The first taste was a little scary and tasted like regular beer. About a second or 2 later I notice it starts tasting like chocolate, creme, or cappiccino. That part I really liked. I would not buy this beer all the time since its a little expensive but once in a while its a nice treat. I recommend that everyone try it at least once if you are of age.
Those that have already tried this know there is something inside called the "rocket widget". After I finished my first one I decided to find out what this thing was. Here are the pics of the results.

Then after I removed the rocket I cut it open. Hmmm empty? What did I just drink out of it???

Domestic: Yeah right... (referred to American beers, since I spend most of my time in this country)

Import: Killian's Irish Red, Heineken, Guinness - these are the three I drink the most, in that order.

Other than that, anything that's not American is good (or Italian, for that matter... - just to show I am not biased, since I am from Italy)

Im not a big fan of beer. But....if I had to choose one, it would definitely be corona.

Same here... Corona Light is even better because you don't need the lime.

How can anyone drink beer? It's disgusting! But, I guess if you get drunk, you won't be able to tell what it tastes like...

yeah... I wonder the same for wine. I just have a couple of Black russians or Long Island and it's all good after that. Luckily, the only time I drink is when I'm with friends, which isn't too much.

Domestic: ......errr, most british beer tastes like piss, so i'll have to say Timothy Taylor's Landlord - it's a bitter rather than a lager and a bit of an old-man's drink but its still nice. Black Sheep is also a good bitter - and i used to go to the same school as the guy who set up the company, although he was a few years older than me.

Import: Peroni (Nastro and regular) San Miguel, Michelob (great bottle!) and Leffe
but to be quite honest - i'll drink anything, except perhaps Hoegaarden which is like sick with all the chunks of carrot strained out.

Import would be Heinekein. Its the only import I can recall drinking...

In addition, I'll also go for Kwak, Duvel, Hoegaarden Cru. English beers - Black Sheep Riggwelter and McEwans Champion both have some kick to them.

If it's general consumption then Budvar Budweiser (far superior to it's namesake) or Peroni. Excellent for serving very cold on a hot day.

By the time you get down to carlsberg/fosters/carling/etc it's pretty much all the same - flavourless coloured water for showing how much fluid you can drink.

Stuff about Guinness and the infamous widget.

The widget it what gives Guinness such a good head when it isn't from the tap. See here for how it works. My brother is a huge Guinness fan and has been since college. However, he is also a geek and the geekiness springs forth when he gets drunk. So, after downing a few Guinness he begins to cut open cans or break bottles to show everyone the widget and explain how it works. I have heard this a million times now. Import: Killian's Irish Red...

I love Killians too. It is the only American made beer that has the satisfaction of an import. Technically it isn't an import even though Coors says it is. To me an import would be made outside the US not Colorado.

I can't stand most American style beers but I love imports.

I usually drink Killian's, Bass Ale, Guinness.

For the people who can't understand how people can drink beer: I used to say the same thing until my brother introduced me to Guinness. That was when I learned that beer that looks like water with yellow coloring added sucks but others are good. The best beers are darker and have more flavor.

Of course, some people just don't like beer at all, but I don't like most wine. I also don't like spinach or liver. Perhaps it is a personal preference thing just like any foods or drinks are.

I never tend to drink beer to get drunk. It is usually what I drink to hold the buzz after the liquor has gotten me drunk or to just have with an occasional meal out.

My beer choices are seasonal and also depends on if I'm having it with a meal.

In the spring/summer I prefer lighter lagers. So it's usually Samual Adams and Corona Extra. Sometimes I'll go with Harp, if I'm having beer with beef or pork.

My taste for Corona comes from living in Florida for 10 years. Cut a wedge of lime, stick it in and sit on the beach. It's all good. It's great with most seafood.

With fish or something more delicate, I often have wine. Usually a Chard from California.

In the fall/winter, I prefer much darker beers. My favorite all around fall beer is Bass. It's good to drink on it's own and good with almost everything I eat. For drinking stand alone, I like Guinness as well.

Sam Adams also does a seasonal brew like a cherry wheat ale that's very good.

For heavy meals like a steak, I drink red wine. Usually a Cab. Usually from California. Though I like many Washington State and Australian vineyards.

My old roommate always drank Sam Adams. I could drink it but it wasn't pleasurable. It is what I woudl call a "border beer." That would be a beer that I don't have a problem drinking but would never order on my own. I know people that love Sam Adams but feel the same way about Killians. I guess you could call them both "border beers."

Although, this does remind me that last year (or the year before?) they had a seasonal mixed pack that they sold with four Christmas-only flavors. I liked those, but they also didn't really taste like normal beer either. I don't ever count those because it is a specialty thing designed to not taste like beer and only sold around Christmas. Who would have thought a nutmeg-like after taste would be good in beer?

Yes you're right. I always thought it was the way i said it, but thinking about it, it is actually sixteen sixty four, not one thousand six hundred and sixty four (less catchy).

I drank Sam Adams at Cheers. Didn't like it much. ///M, Bass is quite a mass-produced chemistry fest. You should have a look for Marston's Pedigree or Courage Directors, and give them a try. Also have a go with Caledonian 80/- (eighty shilling) and Deuchars IPA (pronounce Deuchars to rhyme with mucus).
