Favorite Beer - Domestic or Import

Nothing beats Coopers.
This one is non alcoholic (for 13 year olds ) with only 0.05% alcohol volume. It tastes like the real thing (and yes I have drunk real beer to know. Please don't go mocking my age ) I have two or three of these a week.

Have you ever had New Belgium Frambozen? If a brown ale knocked up a frambiose, Frambozen would be the child.
It's a tie between that and 1554 for my favorite New Belgium brew.

... I actually have a bottle of 1554 in my cabinet . I'm just waiting to get over this unfortunate cold, so that I can pop it open and actually be able to taste it. I had a bit of it, once before with a mate, but all I can recall is a nice chocolaty nuttiness. Mmmmm...

Picked up a bottle of North Coast Brewing's Brother Thelonious and I was going to crack it open for a certain special event on Nov. 2nd, but now that nice Belgian style is on hold too.

I hadn't come across Frambozen; New Belgium just keeps doing it. You have to love guys that give you a good Belgian style beer, while at the same time not completely emptying your wallet. I've been on the phone, searching for Frambozen since reading your post, but so far it seems as illusive as GT5 on Nov. 2.

Good luck with the Frambozen. It's their winter seasonal and it's usually pretty hard to find where I'm at. It's a bit pricier than most of their other stuff, but worth every cent!

Yeah, I still haven't found a store that is carrying Frambozen. Two have told me that they have to check with their distributors, just in order to inform me whether or not they can even special order the bloody brew. I tell you, I've had it up to here with this strict system of producer - distributor - retailer.

Sadly, there's not much Stone that makes its way to Texas. It's only within the past two years or so that we've started seeing anything other than Arrogant Bastard. All I can get here is AB, Stone IPA, Oak Aged Bastard, and Ruination if I'm lucky. I've only seen Double Bastard here once before.

I went to San Diego when my little bro lived out there and was amazed at how many different ones there were. I tried Levitation, Ruination, Double Bastard and Old Guardian, didn't see an IRS there.


Also, that makes 3 uses of the abbreviation IRS with which I'm familiar.

THEIRS.... I used to be able to find Arrogant Bastard with ease, but now if a shop only carries one, it will most likely be the Double Bastard.

I had a friend a few years back (lost contact), who would literally buy out a stores stock in Stone's IRS, so that he'd have enough for the year. I think that at the time, they only released it in small batches (I find it all the time now), so when it was gone... He was generous to a fault (quite like family in that way) and he'd always drop a few of those 22 oz. bottles my way. I still have a couple of them due to the nostalgia and one is from their pre-IRS label, simply reading "Stone Imperial Stout, Limited Early Summer 2005 Release."

Deep dark chocolate, sweet coffee, a little peat and thick. I had one bottle that was as viscous as oil. Some don't like the bit of peatiness, but it is nowhere near a nice Islay Whisky, which this is making me thirsty for .

My favorite domestic beers are almost all local micro to somewhat-small-but-not-small-enough-to-really-be-a-micro-anymore brews. My favorites so far are: Pike Tandem and Naughty Nellie, Mac and Jacks and Copperhook. It's too bad Pike is expensive and you can only get Mac and Jack's at either a bar or bring your own growler/keg. I think Copperhook is nice, refreshing, and decently priced.

I would love to try other stuff from the area. I've had stuff from Boundary Bay and Maritime brewery a couple of times before, but I don't remember them well enough to pass judgment.

Mmmmm... That just sounds delicious. I should head down to Stone for a tour. I've already promised myself a nice vacation based on distillery tours, so I may as well have one for breweries as well.

I managed to grab some Old Rasputin this afternoon. Sipping as we speak... It is a nice brew; not as spicy as Stone's IRA, but that isn't a fault.

I won't bore with personal tasting notes, but I will say this. I has a nice play between the bits of sweetness and the loads of metal toned sour. I was very appreciative of the large amount of bitter, as it sorted out my stomach ache right away.

Just as the title says. If you are going to put away a couple of beers what type do you tend to prefer?

I can't really pick one as an all the time beer. I've really gotten into the beers brewed by Stone here in Escondido. The first of theirs I had was Arrogant Bastard. I've since had their IPA, Ruination IPA, Smoked Porter, Imperial Russian Stout, Belgo-Annise Imperial Russian Stout, Oaked Arrogant Bastard, and their plain Pale Ale. I think the best one is the IRS, but if I am not in the mood for a heavy beer I will pick up either some Arrogant Bastard or their Ruination IPA. The Oaked Arrogant Bastard is also real good. It's similiar in flavor to the plain Arrogant Bastard, but a little more mellow and not quite the bitter after taste. I had Ruination when I went there last Wednesday for their movie night. Some good stuff going on at that place. If you haven't had any of the brews by Stone I highly reccomend it. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, at least not what I have had so far.

If I don't feel like paying $4-7 for a 22 oz bottle I will pick up a 12 pack of Tecate, or a sixer of Corona. I still like them, but they just don't compare to Stone.

Founders' Dirty Bastard , Belhaven Scottish ale , Sierra Nevada Torpedo , and Black Label . Just a couple that spring to mind . Guiness and Murphys' stout are always there for me as well . I like variety , and beer . I 'm thirsty .

I like my self a Shancheng most nights of the week. It's weak, tastes like pee and is 3 yuan (30p) for a large bottle. It's the kind of beer you can drink gallons of without feeling like crap in the morning. Naturally where I am it's a domestic brew.

For an import, I can't really say, I prefer bad Chinese beer but if I had to choose it'd be Shinga beer from Thailand.

The cheap beers are what I drank before I turned 21 when we just wanted to get drunk. I'd like to think I have grown past that somewhat. Now I prefer to buy a beer I enjoy the taste of. Although I will admit that when I am starting to feel buzzed it doesn't much matter what it tastes like. Such is one of the facts of alcohol.

Tonight I picked up a six pack of Michelob Amberbock. I had tried the regular Michelob, and really liked it. I like a little darker beer so I figured I'd try this one. It goes down nice and smoothe, with a malty type of after taste. I had thought about buying some Stone IPA, but I ended up with this. If they would have had Ruination I would have bought that.

I've had only Dos Equis, Corona (regs and light), Bud Light, HeinekenCoors (Lights and Banquets), Budweiser, and some restaurant Hefeweizen.

I haven't tried too many yet, but when I do get the chance to travel the world, I'm definitely going to expand my tastes. The rest of you lot have some interesting flavors posted here.

The little tour looks fun, ate there once ...food isnt really good but the environment where you eat is cool eventhough its located in $hit town escondido which you wouldnt expect to be so nice.
