What I got from it was - to use an analogy - if you never take that first drink, alcoholism will not bother you.

One can apply that idea to many other things. :)

More of a monologue than a quote, but looking up the Pale Blue Dot for the Photos From History thread reminded me of one of my favourite Carl Sagan quotes:

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
