I'm slower using bumper cam now because I'm not used to it, but overall it has advantages real F1 drivers don't have so once you adjust to it you're better off. But it's all about realism and that might not be important to everyone but it is to me. Use the directional buttons on the DFGT to look left and right in your mirrors. We were just talking about head tracking the other night but unfortunately it doesn't work online from what I'm told. :( Keep in mind F1 drivers are wearing helmets too which restricts view, it's not far off as you can see from that video I posted.

You can always teach yourself new tricks, I'm in my 30s and it didn't take long to adjust.

I'm older than you and visually impaired.

40s? I'm definitely not visually impaired, and I will admit I sit about 3 feet away from a 61" screen so it's true to scale. I'd imagine in car view would be pretty difficult on a smaller tv.

BTW you should see the game on my 170" HD projector, it's grotesquely large. So large the scale is too big.

I have 85% optic nerve damage in each eye. High speed stuff blurs a bit, but I'm endowed with great mental focus I guess. I get a bit tired after an hour or two. And I'm 45.

Good practise guys.
Dont forget tomorrow our practise race.

I would be racing bumper cam if I was you too, that's amazingly impressive Joe. With 85% optic nerve damage you can race whatever view you want and get a free pass. You've got a decade on me almost exactly. Nice to know I'm not the only older gentleman here brother.

Good practice all, i finally managed to test my Draft speed. Oh and news of the century, IMMORTAL spun on our 5 lapper, the end is nigh.

My tip to you..don't skip any yearly eye exams. Glaucoma is "the silent thief of sight". It's painless, and before you know it your optic nerve has been destroyed, and it can't be repaired.

I've seen him spin a few times. Spun off track in front of me during suzuka at dunlop.

Granted he had just lapped me and was a lap ahead of everyone so I don't think it mattered much.

My father just had cateracts removed, I haven't been to the eye doctor in 20 years... maybe I should schedule an appointment. Thanks Joe.

Next time he does that, let me know so that we give him a penalty for lack of concentration.

I'm sure it gets boring when you're a lap up. If I was that far ahead during races I'd regularly park it out of the way and get up to get snacks and beer then rejoin in first.

That is probably what happened. He let go of the wheel to go to the fridge and get a beer. Immortal - next time go in the pits press the start button - it will hold you there while you get a snack. Then you can rejoin after a visit to the bathroom. I might be able to finish the race next time.

Ok Joe i make this like you have say.

A message from GANGSTA.
His wheel was broken when have get it.
He buy soon a new.
And Gian he want to drive against you with DS3.
He say when he get a wheel then he is fast in 2 weeks.
I think its possible for him he is heavy fast.

I haven't used a DS3 in two years and he's at the top of his DS3 game, but I haven't broken my fastest times set with it back when I first got GT5 and before I got my wheel.

Tell him I'll be impressed if he can get in the top 10 of a full grid with a wheel. Personally I think we should ban controller drivers and ABS for next season (I love you wilso I'm sorry).

Pffffff...

Would be sad if you didn't race with us Wilso.

Just being a grumpy old man. Deep down inside I know that if I was really good I should be able to beat him with a wheel anyway so I just need to step up my game. I have a long way to go. ;)

Still, it's nice to know when I'm beaten that the person/people doing it are competing within the same skill set. Wheels vs. Wheels. But I just need to get better, it's not like Immortal is too worried about it and rightfully so.

I don't think we should ban DS3 users. A wheel in its full potential has more speed than a DS3. And with better tire wear. And better consistency. A DS3 lets you have a lucky save once in a while, but if you're used to the wheel it won't be that hard saving your car. I sort of want ABS gone, then we can have real braking battles, along with lock-ups, but I know a bit less people would join.

Totally agree, it's just annoying how much harder it is to get to that point with a wheel but at least it's motivation. I just get annoyed when people with controllers think they're hot stuff when it's nothing even remotely like driving with a wheel.

You though are by far the most impressive person I've seen transition. By far, most people are crushed once they realize they have no idea what they're doing with the real thing. I've heard countless stories of people buying a wheel only to realize they suck and immediately return it lol. You managed to come in second after a few races in the top GTP league.

Edit: rFactor round 8 Spain video is now up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYSNxfKQ1aI

Well, to be fair, I had about 3 weeks of wheel time until Madrid. I only had 2 days practice with the wheel in Monza.

I agree about the ABS. It's really not necessary anyways. I don't use it anymore.

I don't know if we should ban controller users either. I mean sure, they do have an advantage over slow F1 drivers like me, but it's ok. It's not their fault I can't reach my full potential with a wheel, it's mine. Well and it's PD's fault for making F1 cars use the full 900 degrees of rotation. It just doesn't make sense.

You're too modest, you have amazing potential. Although at your age this type of modesty points at something great as well.

Guys GANGSTA drive with DS3 without ABS he have my respect for that.
And RajhaN drive with DS3 with munual schifting incredible i dont know how.
But i think we should vote for next saeson ABS on or off.
I have drive the whole saeson1 and 2 with ABS off and its faster for me.

When I used my DS3 a couple of months ago (basically right before I got my wheel) I set my shifting to L1 (down) R1 (up) and I actually liked manual shifting on it, it was almost exactly like the paddle shifters on my wheel now.

As for ABS, I run my brake bias at 10/10, so I would have to change that with no ABS, but I don't mind either way.

I like no ABS a lot... however I've noticed when you're following and the downforce is reduced it's a bit tricky. Usually you don't have to worry about the wheels locking up until you get to around 40mph (edit: ~60kmh) but when you're following you have to be really really careful. I had a lockup at 150mph the other night and it's a bit terrifying.

10/10?! Have you tested to see if it works better that way? Mine are 6/5 when I'm running with abs.

Why would manual shifting with a DS3 be incredible? Isn't that how they always drive? It's simple. Set Upshift to R1, down to L1 sort of like paddle shifters. It works great, just like in GT PSP. Use right analog for throttle and brake and you got reasonable amount of throttle control too

Do your eyes get blurry after looking at TV/computer monitors for too long? That's what happens to me. I started wearing glasses because I got sick of it. Plus my right eye has worse vision than my left so that's a problem as well

Try this my friend: http://stereopsis.com/flux/

It only works with your computer but it helps. In short it changes the color temperature of your monitor to coincide with the sun so you don't screw up your circadian rhythm. My eyes used to go blurry and become sensitive around 4 or 5pm when the sun started going down while I was working on my computer and this fixed it.

Under settings make sure you change transition setting to "slow".

I open the practise lobby now guys.
