FGT Championship A-spec sucks!

Anyone have racing tips for Cote D'Azur, it's the only race I can't seem to catch up on when I lose places.

In fact the opposition seems to get further in front.

I did it by being ultra aggressive and getting 1st place before the hairpin (late break into the first curve, getting inside on the second part of S curve and then running into first place to get inside on the corner before the hairpin) after that, basically don't make a mistake while blocking the ai from getting around you. After 10 laps or so the ai settles down a bit and doesn't seem to be able to run perfect around the track (I guess tire wear), from there you can build a small lead if you continue to not make any mistakes. If they got a 6 second or better lead I usually just restarted.

After you get the lead, if you scrub a wall or take a corner wide get ready to block them from passing again. With aids on you can take the first four corners faster than the ai, they seem to do the hairpin and corners into the straight before the chicane faster than I did along with the series of curves after the big one after the chicane. The last two corners I took with extreme caution because the ai can get around you easily if you mess it up so you could probably better your lap time on those than I did. I ended up winning this race by less than .600.

Yes please. I also put my top speed down to 199, but that tight turn does pose a problem.:sly:

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to play last night, but I'll get you the info tonight for sure. Besides the setup I'm using, don't use the steering assist. I find that makes a car understeer as well. ASM slows you down too much, so don't use it either. Increase ABS, so you can turn and brake at the same time (I use 5 with the FGT). TCS will slow you down if you have it set too high, too low and you'll spin your tires, so I set that at 5 as well. I don't see a huge benefit to using the skid control setting, but I use it for the FGT... just for the peace of mind. Make sure you are slowing down enough for the hairpin and stay as wide as possible until you turn in.

Before setting my suspension up, using all of the above, the FGT had the turning radius of a dump truck!! LOL

This car is difficult to drive with a controller, but I have found it very rewarding to gold all the events on the first try. I spent hours in practice on every track before I ran those races. One of these days I'll do the championship, but for now, I'm happy with just being done with the individual races. I'm sure I'll be racing them again, since I was an FGT-aholic in GT4. Once I finished everything in GT4, I ran the FGT races almost exclusively.

Yeah it was tough. Golding the first 2 and Monza is easy (anything with rain and all the AI's pit on lap 1, at least until they patch it). Cote D'Azur was beastly, because I'm not steady enough to avoid making mistakes while pushing the car enough to get to the front.

Nurburgring was awful because my setup was not right for it (car was shaking and understeering like mad), so it devolved to me building up a huge lead on the chicane shortcut and just trying to hold on until the next time around.

Was sucking on the last one, so I just took out the guy who was 2nd place in points, then abandoned the race to ice the championship. I suppose I'll go back sometime to gold the 2 I couldn't win, but it's not a priority.

So like I said, my first time I slipped in the last corner in the first race an quit. I gave it another try last night and I dominated by a LARGE margin the first..4 races? I already had the championship won though so I started fooling around and screwed up the last race, but still won the championship.

Oh, as it turns out, the FGT I tried the first time was "fine tuned" by the guy that gave it to me in a trade. I reset everything to default except the top speed and the car drives perfectly..

btw I laugh whenever I read someone saying "I spent hours practicing/trying"...really? How do you people get that much free time?

i'm making the most of fgt as it looks like the last event for me thats going to be great

with 8laps to go I closed the gap to 14seconds and around the 5th turn three AI Drivers spun and completely had the road blocked... like wtf.

hmmm, sounds like schumacher was on the development tean in monaco

(opps, forgot i was previous poster)

Suzuka is a night mare ... i was something like 90 points ahead and this one guy in a purple FGT always came second so in suzuka if i came 9th i would hold on ... messed up on every lap so on like lap 10 i decided to wait for mr purple FGT and spin him off the road then retired :) he finished 11th, i finished 12th but i got the trophy at the end :P ... suzuka in tha championship still is incomplete but i managed the 172 laps of it last night so hopefully i will have it in the bag 👍

Once you know the track this is easy, only thing I changed was a the downfoarce to full and top speed.

The key to the race is that unless you can maintain being in the lead for 20 laps, the race is won in the last 8-10 or so laps. The boost seems to be pretty high so even if you are dead last haf way through the race, you can still pass everyone and win with a few laps to go.

i struggled until i changed the view so i could see the nose of the car. i usually use the bumper cam so i think the added height allowed me to see the upcoming corners better. I also dropped the rear spring rate a pound to eliminate the snap oversteer i was experiencing. epic fail at suzuka though.

After reading your posts I'm not looking forward to this race!

It's not too, too bad. Just not as easy as some people had gotten used to. Keep trying -- you can do it!

Or days, even weeks. Because cumulative time through multiple sittings isn't plausible. At all.

Well assuming you got your free time, why would you spend that much time practicing a circuit for ONE race?

BTW everyone, I suggest you do what I did. Finish the Super GT series with the FGT to get used to how it drives, do an engine restore, keep the car's settings to default except the brakes (6-4), everything off except ABS and TCS both set to 1 and you're all set to win. Seriously, I surprised myself. I was scared the first race but gained enough confidence to win the following 3 or 4 easily and now I'm free.

If someone comes out here and said traction control set to 1 is cheating, I'm going to kill him.

I used tunesettings from tuning forum and finished 1st everywhere by at least 10-15 seconds except for Cote d'Azur (2nd). I think you just have to buy a wheel or get better.

Thanks o9lifted. Your post really helped me. I was very frustrated because the FGT is undrivable but with these driving options turned on it's at least tolerable. Can't wait to beat these races now and never drive the FGT again! By far the most dissappoited I've been with this game besides Rally races.

Different people find different things to be fun. This is one of those things.

I have gold on all the other A-spec races,im level 29,a little bit and i become 30 but i cant pass this FGTC,ive got a normal controller too,way too hard,i can only resist 7 laps max, well im waiting for thursday to level up

If you are really struggling then some of the courses do have shortcuts you could utilize...

You can easily lap cars if you use the ones at Monza or NBR GP!

Just finished this series, what a relief. Managed to gold all but Monaco (2nd) and Suzuka (quite while ahead). Got used to using the FGT, so became somewhat easy towards the end

Monza: cut the second chicane, there are 3 chicanes (over the grass...stay in 5th)

Suzuka: cut the chicane, just before the start/finish line (using the pitlane asfalt to avoid losing it...stay in 3rd)

NBR: cut the chicane, just before the start/finish line (over the grass...watch out for AI's that have spun out)

And use this tuning setup:

Has anyone had the weather change on them during a fgt race?
i didn't think the weather changed at all in any race, i had been running the monza race doing some test stuff and left the car parked up, when i got back to the game 15 hours later it was raining where it had been a sunny start.

So has anyone had a weather change during the normal time frame of 20 laps?

In suzuka, yes.

I did a series where the second to last race was in the rain. (Monza?)

In the start of the last race, in the intro, the sky was clear but the cars racing around were kicking up spray, So I stuck with Rain tyres and when I actually started racing, it was dry?!

But, I think this caught the Ai out too, as they all pitted to change tyres after the first lap.

So did I and I still lost badly. :(

I setup my FGT with a tune I found on this site, I haven't tried it yet tho.

My trick was first getting very used to the machine. That means throttle, braking and taking mental notes of the handling. Practiced each track for a good two days memorizing every corner, cutting areas, transmission setting, up shift and down shift. After learning the tracks I would practice with opponents and made sure I could beat them.

One key thing that I always tried to do was skip 2-3 gears all together or short shift into the corner so when exiting I wouldn't spin out. My settings off the top of my head.
Aero: Max front back
Alignment: -2.3 front -1.3 rear
Toe: -.23 front -.15 rear
Suspension:
Height: -6 front -5 rear
Spring: 16.3 front 17.5 rear
Decompression: stock
Compression: 6 7
LSD: 15-20-15
Aides: tsm 3-5
Abs 1

Granted settings are subjective but this helped rotate the machine especially during high speed cornering. Just adjust transmission settings per track.

I got all gold except Cote Azure (fuggers spun me). It really is all about short shifting and throttle control. Fuji was probably the hardest along with Azure. Suzuka was the easiest, it was all 4th gear racing.

Honestly, cut corners, block like a madman. You will not lap them, the ai cheats. Consistency wins, do not wipe. Every track has an area where you can make up 1-3 seconds, use it to your advantage.

It's not that hard, sometimes the rain on Monza and Suzuka can mess you up but other then that you should have no probelms. Also if your really just looking to win, put the driving aids on and it's a piece of cake :)

Agreed. I've currently only done the first 2 races (Fuji and Indy Road course) using a DS3 and lapped the field twice at Fuji and 3 times at Indy. All driving aids on and using an auto. Just want to get it over with and out of the way. Had to stop after the 2nd race as my hands and forearms were aching...as disturbing as that sounds.

How relative can things get in a video game?

I think the FGT championship is by far the best event in GT5, maybe the only one close to it is the 4 hour Nürburg.

Guess some guys want easier wins, while others prefer harder stuff.

I've had the game since it came out and the FGT is very hard to drive with a stick. Getting the correct settings on this car is necessary. Perhaps you can just drive anything with no setup on every track, but I prefer to win the race the first time and I know I need to work on setup. I spent 2 weeks setting up the car that would work well enough on every track for my driving style. I drive clean laps, no shortcuts, no bent up ugly car after the race, so I do what I need to do. Glad I could brighten your day, though. :)

Same.
FGT championship is just epic.
It's so great driving 20 laps on 6 tracks when the opponents are like 3 seconds behind you, pure GT5 fun only real GT fans will understand.
FGT is epic, golded it all - took me some time to get the balls to do it.
Sixaxis, TCS 6, ABS 10, ASM off, SRF off, oil change, racing softs, 370 km/h gearbox settings, the rest is stock.
It took me 3 hours.

I managed to just about win the first race when I tried it in December, and that was with a pretty bad case of man flu so I was hardly concentrating. Went off on the last corner too many times to count, yet held the lead for the most part. I haven't done it yet, I can't find the time, and the same goes for the endurance races. I think once I've bought all the cars (getting close) I'll give it a go and just leave my PS3 on for as long as it takes, I replaced my YLOD Fat in November so I have a 3 year warranty on this one, maybe I'll force it to overheat in two years and get a new one to make up for the wear GT5 has and will put on it...! (If you work for Sony or in insurance, that was a joke)

I would like to try this in B-Spec mode! If things don't go as planned, I will bail out of the race to avoid a loss.
