I hope that was tuned!! My stock 500L on N2 or N3 managed 15mins.. but then i dont know the 'Ring that well, however at that speed you dont really need to. Can't believe I got oversteer in a 17bhp car gotta love these little things.

I think F, L, and R are just designators of minor revisions.

I have a dull red colored L which may be confused for looking rusty but it is just a different shade rather than actual rust, i doubt the two cars you read about actually exist or someone just got paint colors confused.

Still it'd be nice if i could be proved wrong.........

I did get a nice bronze 500(L?) though.

It's a shame that with so many variations of the Cinquecento (500), there isn't a 500 Race... Fiat doesn't even have a manufacturer's championship!

On the name designation, just like VW's Beetle, the 500 had little upgrades made during its history. Every time there was an upgrade, the letter changed. Hence, the original 500 was produced from 1957 to 1960; then came the 500D (wasn't this on in GT2?) from 1960 to 1965; the 500F & 500L (very little difference between them) from 1965 to 1972; and finally the 500R from 1972 to 1975. The most produced model was the F and L, since it was the model that went to the international markets as well. There was also a 500 Sport (500S) , with side vents and a red stripe.

These are of course, the "classic" 500 editions. As far as I know, Fiat never stopped production of the nameplate, and I've seen many new Cinquecentos on the street.

Oh how I wish they had included the Abarth versions of these Fiats - they were the mini-exotics of the day...
The fastest Fiat Abarth using the 600 body was unbelieveably fast even in stock trim - it had a top speed of 230 km/h
If I remember correctly, it had a 1100 cc engine with more than 130 horses, and weighed less than 500 kgs... Won some world rally races too.

Curse you and your ability to have a good Mini! Anyways, I disagree that the Beetle has a bigger legacy than the 500R. The Beetle got Germany on wheels. The 500 got Italy on wheels. They are basically the same idea, only applied differently. Automobile magazine rated the 500 higher in most important cars of the past century due to the fact that "it is a more refined version of the Beetle. Safer, more efficient and more compact." Granted, it was only one position ahead of the Beetle, but they both were in the top 5. And don't say the Beetles better legacy is reflected by sales, because the Beetle sold for 36 years longer than the 500.
