Wow, that road photo, what if a truck had come steaming over the brow of that hill?

Underpants for rent.

Thanks Cano! Tezza the road is more like a cliff! I catch air going over that drop at 45mph. Hell on the suspension through, and then of course the train tracks at the bottom.

Here are a couple more that I like,

I Think the Alamo is cool. Harsh reality of the place, but its iconawesomeness can't help but make you think about things.

Quite like many of them. My only criticism really is that your exposures generally seem to be off by a stop or so in most pictures. Feels like you are losing some detail or pop that could be had with some adjustments in curves and exposure. But I also tend to like contrast, so...

I'm torn as well. I'm a noob at the new D7000 and am making myself use only the manual settings to force my way through the learning curve, as it were. I like over exposed shots but some are bit too much. More practice for sure is needed. Thanks for the feedback.

I've looked through your flickr pages and you have some outstanding shots. I'll get there eventually. 👍

rees..

Some more: I love this place on the North side of SA. Pepe' ownes some of these cars and preps others for some collectors. He likes me and lets me shoot whenever I come by. (except for some, he didn't have anything to do with those.)

(@azure.. this last pic is what your talking about contrast? I even tried to curve it out, but it was taken too dark. I'm keeping your thoughts in mind)

Again, that last shot feels a touch over-exposed (I see no true blacks in it), yet the same bike in that 2nd shot seems under-exposed. Now a lot of this could just be the result of awkward lighting, and some could be the result of your display for your computer.

I quickly adjusted the curves a bit in Photoshop to get the black values I'd personally, and I applied a sharpen filter though still not sure how I feel about that (mostly with the grill)

nMbiL.jpg

I hope you don't mind.

Not at all. I see what you mean by the grill. It looks right on, but it seemed to take to much of the 'lowers' (bike talk; where the "848" is) flow away. Knowing the bike like I do, the lower panel has much more flow to it than the red is allowing. I think the shot actually should have been more to the right anyway.

But I get what you mean by the the details. I wasn't even looking at the grill. I wanted the whole scene to flow, but it was basically fail at positioning. The way you made the grill pop has given me some good points to watch for. Thanks. 👍

The truth is I got more camera than I know how to use, which was the intention. I see pictures everywhere. Now I just have to learn how to grab them. I carry my camera everywhere, I've had it for less than a month (maybe longer??) and only able to use it for three weeks due to work. So far over 2500 shots fired. Most suck of course, I'm making myself use manual everything. I need to set up my screen (laptop) better. My goal this weekend is to define my workspace and correct my work light. I think that is why some things look better than others. While some still just suck. /rammbling.

(Seriously thank you for your insight)

There's a lot of really good shots here 👍 You've got a good eye which is a lot harder to learn than technique not that I think you're going much wrong although Azureman's adjustment of the very nice 848 shot has got more punch.

Have you considered using aperture/shutter priority or are you set on going fully manual?

I generally shoot with Aperture priority unless lighting it very awkward for the exposure.

As for how I like my shots to look, I do tend to get a bit more pop by fiddling with curves and the black values a bit. However, this is partially because I do so much work with landscapes, where you rarely capture what you see at that time, since the eye picks up a lot more detail in lighting and colors than the camera catches.

Don't be afraid to fiddle around with everything and post it up here, I love nothing more than giving actual feedback on photographers. More so when they listen; far too many new photographers seem to be caught up in overly processing their work because it is "stylish," like tone-mapped HDR shots

I took the oppurtunity this long weekend to take the motorcycle out to the hill country and see what I could see........
