Is is possible to change a cars rim for one that is bigger in diameter? Eg: Fitting 18 inch rims to a car that comes with original equipment 15 inch rims... :sly:

no

sadly.. i wish you could buy slightly bigger tires in GT4

you will notice that some wheels do look larger than other wheels on the cars tires.. just depends which wheel you choose

try at the bottom of the wheel shop there are USED wheels these tend to look a bit bigger (i never buy new wheels only used ones)

Actually, I've noticed that buying Racing tires seems to increase the diameter of your wheels. In addition, what's been mentioned is true; some wheels do look larger. For example, the MkV GTI's wheels look absolutely huge when you can put them on other cars.

I also have noticed that the rims you put on racing tires appear larger than stock for that car. Just get some racing tires, and buy some new rims for your car (but make sure its for the racing tires) and that will be the biggest looking wheel you can get.

Some wheel models are slightly bigger than others, but you can't actually choose the size. And the difference is like 1 inch at best anyway, so it only makes a minor difference in looks.

It really sucks that you can't change the wheel offsets.

i agree, not being able to change the size of the wheels is annoying!!

i loved nfs u2, and all the aesthetic mods in it, just wish GT4 gave similar options.... esp as there's a phote mode!!

the only way i can see of getting large wheels is to buy a car from the tune specialists.... i love the look of the mine's skyline!!

I wouldn't mind having the option to put your rim from 15" to 22", imagine 22" on a Chevelle or something.

Once we can do hybrids in GT4 you will be able to fit any wheels possible. Just hang in there and be patient. :)
We did it in GT3 so its just a matter of time for GT4.
Believe me I hate only being able to put 15" wheels on a 69 Camaro. :yuck:

what additional hardware will be needed for hybrids? and will us brits be able to use 'em?

We are not able to build hybrids for GT4 yet. So I cant accurately answer that.
For GT3 most people used a Sharkport and MK's program.

wow cool

didnt know about that on GT3.... where can i get mk's program from? mmmm and i havent heard of the sharkport here (play.com for UK doesnt list it.... can i buy from playusa.com and run on my unchipped ps2??)

typical, i'm gonna have to move to the US now lol!!

Just think about it though, if you could change the wheel size then it changes the physics completely.

When drag racing in real life you put on small tires in the rear. The circumfrence of the tire is smaller so you can accelerate faster.

Most people in the game would be putting larger tires on for looks when the smaller tire is actually better.

Unfortunately, in NFSU2 wheel size made no difference to performance.

Im not going to start an argument about wheel size but look at most of the cars that track race in real life. If you have a larger diameter wheel and smaller wall tire you have better lateral traction on the track because there is less flex in the sidewall. Look at a Mercedes CLK race car. Pefect example.
DRAG RACERS have more tire less wheel. Just try to take drag racing tires in real life with 15" wheels and see how well they corner.

EDIT: I used to have 14" wheels on my camaro when I bought the car. WIth the tire on there the overall diameter was around 26"
NOw I have 18" wheels and lower profile tires. My overall diameter is still 26"

Everyone knows that bigger wheels are better.. Not.

mmmmm i couldnt care less is piddly little wheels are better.... big **** off wheels just LOOK better hehe

sigh, aesthetics are important u know!! LOL

I'm really suprised with all the tunning features in GT4 that wheel size was not one of them.

I don't lik ehuge wheels, but some cars just coul duse 17-18in wheels to look right

Racing tires give u bigger wheels, but this is more noticable on some cars. It lookz way better!

why did you have to tell me this, now i'm going to be wasting my money (ok racing tires are nice) to buy racing tires for half my cars

Still doesn't help the classics though. They won't look as cool as camaroboy's until someone hybrids it.

I personally can't wait!

I noticed that on my S14 K's Aero, when I put 350Z rims on it from the Used Wheels section they looked bigger, and definately looked better.

lets say you buy N3 tires and take a pic...then you buy R5 tires and take the pic in the same spot...you will notice a slight change in the rims that they actually get a little bigger

Yes it does, Painfully obvious on a car with different offsets. I tried putting GNX wheels on the RUF BTR for that classic 930 look, and it looks like classic crap. The rear lip is WAY too shallow. gah! Guess, I'll have to wait for the RUF wheels to pop up in the used section.

how do you get wheels from a GNX onto a BTR?

You buy them from the wheel of the day section. It cycles most of the OEM wheels through there every 30 days or so. There's a picture guide somewhere on GTP about this. Search "used wheel", I think.

EDIT: Wheel Database

It's the first wheel on Day 4.
