Just a reminder of what standard cars are, people always blame its graphics vs premium calling PS2 cars but they miss the point and the main reason why they are in GT5.

My big gripe is in the disparity of it all. Many but not all of the standards suffer from poor porting work. Some have clean smooth edges while others are really bad. It's the no cockpit view (for many this is a big issue, not so much for me) that gets some, or the lack of changing wheels (not that it matters since it's only a visual upgrade in GT5) or things like no photo travel locales, etc. When you play and see the quality of the premiums... some of the standards stand out like sour thumbs. It saddens me a car like the freakin Prius can go to photo travel mode but not a mk1 Rabbit GTI... and yes, I massively hate the Prius like no tomorrow so it could be a little bit of that. lol

The game still plays under the same physics engine so for that at least the bulk of the game can be played pending you aren't a fan of cockpit views.

That was a killer for me. I tried to dismiss it and give the game a chance but every time I got into a standard car it felt like I was playing Forza 2 again. I'm addicted to cockpit view. Some people dismiss it but it's just like people of play FPS. Some people wont touch a game that has 3rd person view only while others wont touch a game if they can't see their player on the screen.

Same for me. And if no cockpit view then at least a hood view.
The standard cars in GT5 have neither option, you're either left driving the car in a third person view watching the body float and bounce around like a stick in a pond that just had a rock thrown near it or you drive around a set of gauges four inches off the ground. I tried to like some of the standard cars because man there are some cool ones in there but I just couldn't get past it. Having them in there like that screams of rush and an attempt to put up big numbers in car count for no other reason than just to have more than Forza.

It's another area of inconsistencies in an inconsistent game that should never be overlooked or given a pass on.

Not that it matters to any die hard fan. GT will always be loved and defended by legions of fans despite any flaws that are brought to light by those that aren't as limited with their tastes. Same with Forza fans.

I mean come on, GT has go karts.
Really. Really. Rrreeeeeaaaaallllllyyyy. ;)

I don't think there's much that's needed to be said about the standard cars.
1) No cockpit view.
2) Inferior looks.
3) Inferior customization.
4) Inferior damage model.

The premium/standard car thing basically sums up what's wrong with GT5, in my opinion. It can go from looking insanely good to insanely bad within a few seconds. Which spoils the good side of it, big time.

IMO when forza 4 releases all GT5 can really hold for car models is having the worst ones this gen.

PD have already given up on this gen imo, theres no way with PD's development schedule they could release GT6 before the next PS/MS consoles hit the market.

They screwed up due to their constant distractions during GT5's development, i very much doubt GT5 turned out the way they hoped, maybe they will learn from this....but then again its PD.

The best the GT fans can hope for is the occasional DLC, but those will become fewer and further apart as time goes on, and consign themselves to the fact that the rushed /flawed game they have now will have to do for the next 4 to 5 years.

Not sure if this is the one your talking about but this one had me fooled.

Now this looks real, take out the GT logo and you can fool anyone. The background is even more amazing.

The irony of a game being rushed after spending five years in development...

I still think a PS3 release for GT6 might be possible, though. My personal expectation goes a bit like this:
2011: FM4 released.
2012: Next Xbox announced, GT6 announced.
2013: Next Xbox released, FM5 released on the next Xbox, GT6 delayed, PS4 announced.
2014: GT6 released for PS3, PS4 released later that year.

Otherwise, I think the gap between GT5 and 6 could probably become even bigger than the one between GT4 and GT5...

It crossed my mind that PD could release GT6 as a late PS3 release just before the PS4 hits the market.

But the problem with that is, theres absolutely no point, it would mean they would only get started developing GT7 for the PS4 just around the time the PS4 ships, meaning by the time they actually get GT7 onto the PS4 it would be years after the PS4 has been out.

I though GT was supposed to be sony's console seller, wouldnt it make more sense logically to have GT6 ready for the PS4's release or atleast within the first year of its release.

......But then again we all thought that was what was supposed to happen with GT5 :indiff:

And with GT3 as well. It was supposed to be a launch title for the PS2.

Anyways, wasn't Kazunori on about how the premium car models were best suited for the PS4, anyways? I mean, not that he didn't claim the same thing about the GT4 models, and, well, we all know how that turned out.

Seems like a lose - lose siutation to me. Either release only one GT game on the PS3, or start very late with the development of the first GT game on the PS4.

Exactly!

I'm pretty sure we'll get a GT6 in no more than two years which will be a massive content update using the basis of GT5. That would be the logical way to go. I very highly doubt they would be considering developing GT6 for the PS4, because that would mean they are starting the developments already, and it's obvious PD (as many other Japanese developers) are far from being ready for "next gen" development. Heck, they're even struggling with current gen consoles development.

I do know this, there will be no PS4 purchase for me till I have a PS4 GT game I can put my hand on. They won't get me again like they did this go round.

GT4 was the exactly that. Still took four years.

I initially though three years, and in retrospect, that was pretty optimistic already.

Yup, agreed. GT5 was what I bought the PS3 for, and while it was nice to get to play God of War and Metal Gear Solid 4, I wouldn't have bought that thing if I knew what GT5 was going to be like. The Last Guardian might turn it into a worthwhile purchase somewhen in 2012, though...

Yeah, I know that, but if they really take 4 years to release GT6, they'll be facing Forza 5 on the 720. I mean, it might turn out to be a commercial success, you never know, but, really, what's the point ? I mean, I know I wouldn't play a GT6 on the PS3 if there is a Forza 5 on the 720. I might be reading a bit too much into this but PD really need to wake up and start working on something that will not be half-assed, because I don't know if there are that many fans that will follow them down this road.

Well, didn't Kazunori state himself that he doesn't care about what the competition does?

The probblem, I think, isn't that they plan to release the game that late, they probably are trying to release it before Forza gets to use next-gen hardware, but... I doubt it'll work out. Delaying the game for a year (or even more) is nothing that would suprise me, if it's coming from PD.

And, yup, it would really have a hard time against a Forza game that gets to abuse more powerful hardware to its advantage, especially considering how big the difference in performance is between generations of consoles...
The big question is: How much does it take to drive the large fan base away from GT?

Absolutely. My PS3 sat dormant for a long time waiting for GT5.

I really think GT6 will be competing with FM6. I think those release dates will be closer. Either way the Xbox 720 WILL be out before GT6.

It would put PD at a massive disadvantage if they went for a late PS3 release, that would mean that by the time they actually got round to releasing GT7 for the PS4, Forza would have had a huge head start on them on the next gen consoles.

Imagine having to wait 2 or 3 years after the release of the next gen consoles for GT7, it would be like GT4 all over again, T10 released 3 games between GT4 and GT5, they have completely closed the gap, they aint playing catch up any more, they are in a position now to take the crown away from GT.

Can PD really afford to miss the boat come the release of the PS4 ?

Holy smokes. I'm not lying when I say I was about to post "This GT5 photo looks very photorealistic especially with the background adding to it. Colors look dead spot on". Then it hit me "Forza Motorsport 4" in the corner. That pic is stunning.

In the long run MS can afford to do Forza, just so nobody else could challenge the plattform in the sim racing departement. I doubt Sony can do the same, given they are lacking with their gaming plattforms in so many areas. I personally fear in 5 years time there won't be any choice left and GT is in danger of sharing the fate of Betamax.

Theey can't. But, given their previous developing cycles, are they even able to do anything about it? Kazunori would need to do a 180° in how he manages things, appearently.
A video from me.
If that really is you, thank you for providing the best argument against GT5, in this case: Its fanbase
HBK
Was just gonna post something like that :P

But if we go by the Nintendo fan base raping history, this might even not be enough :scared:
 I have a sneeking suspicion that you might be right. Kazunori could probably poop a tard in the cases and they'd sell well...

It's very nice indeed!
And I think that's just the normal foto mode. I can't wait to see AutoVIsta in different locations.

As long as they can keep milking the GT fanbase with Prologue games, they'll keep making decent revenue off of the GT franchise.
