Please see my last post edit, NTIV10.

You need familiarity and reasonable expectations. You appear to have neither. Show a little patience.

I have to say, I am not impressed with the attitudes of people on this board. Granted, I've mostly just been reading the forums rather than posting. However, when someone posts a legitimate issue/concern/question, people here seem to be quite quick to blame, insult, and belittle the OP. This does not seem to be a particularly friendly forum.

This is usually a very friendly forum :) You have just unfortunately had two rude/condescending members jump on this thread to try and make themselves feel big. Trust me, they are not representative of most of the forum :)

You consider yourself as a tester for a wheel, and then you find out that the wheel doesn't work as promised.

Instead of crying about it, return the wheel, write a review, and make sure people don't make the same mistake.

And yeah, some people should calm down a bit.

Well, I'm sorry.. But, when you 'cry wolf'-per say, yet you've never even seen a wolf, touched one, interacted with one, etc... MUCH less, compare a wolf to little chihuahua puppies... then yeah, you'll get bombarded with comments of the like, pointing out your false criticism of said product, and rather contradictory statements.

Sorry, but that's life :indiff:

I'm sorry, but I beg to differ.. Both destinkeys and myself, are both reputable and kind members of the forum. However, I simply state the obvious. The fellow complaining about the wheel, which he bought to be a trendy-cool-hipster, is an oxymoron. Sorry...? I can't help that.

No one is crying. If you look at my first post, you'll see that I am asking if I have some setting wrong. I am trying to make sure that there's nothing wrong with the wheel and that mine is acting the way it is supposed to.

To answer a previous reply, I just updated the firmware to the latest version and it seems to have made a positive difference.

I am not going to engage this obvious trolling because I grew out of internet flamewars more than a decade ago. Regardless, when someone posts a question about a product and his opinion, calling him names and generally just acting like a jackass is not what I would consider "reputable."

Well, truth be told then.. 👍
Thank you!

You've been crying wolf, when you should have been updating your firmware, which is usual the first step you take.

But, go test the wheel some more, and show us the improved results,
People will thank you for that.

'Facepalm'...

You might get a better response from those on the forum with more experience than you if you didn't shoot down their opinions so fast yourself. This being your first FFB wheel, and your first day with it, perhaps accepting what some have to say and showing a bit of patience and understanding would go a long way. Particularly, bringing up old NFS titles as some kind of comparison won't garner you much respect here, I'm afraid. I get enough flack for mentioning Shift at times, and that's a FAR cry from those old games!

And now acknowledging you hadn't flashed the firmware up to the latest version just adds to this. You know, if the large majority disagree with you, it MIGHT be possible that you are wrong. Not always, but it's a thought, you know?!

You know, at this point, if you can return the TS at no loss, why not order a DFGT, see if you can appreciate the difference? If you can, then return the DFGT and get another TS, If not, you just saved yourself $400..!

+1 :dopey:

First, I didn't even know there was a firmware update. It's not listed on Thrustmaster's website, and you can only do it if you hook up to a Windows PC (which I do not have). Only by coming across a post elsewhere stating that there was an update and that you have to install the PC drivers did I even know it existed.

Luckily, I have VMware Fusion and was able to install the firmware. And yes, I just did a seasonal event and it has essentially fixed what I was concerned about.

See, that wasn't so hard. If someone had said, "there is a firmware update," instead of "you're a weakling who doesn't know how to drive in a simulator," this could have been a much more productive and much less unpleasant thread. As it stands, I am turned off of this forum quite a bit by the snarky and unnecessary comments peppering these responses.

And you completely missed the point of my NFS reference. What I was getting at was that, if this is considered "good" FFB in 2011, perhaps we were better off with crappy, "old" FFB in those pathetic old games.

How are you going to act all high and mighty saying that I should have updated the firmware when there is NOTHING on their website indicating that an update is even available? Care to share a website that offers that information? Try searching Google for "thrustmaster t500rs firmware update" and let me know how far that gets you. Sure, some instructions on how to update it, but no indication that such an update is available.

I suggested that in post #12 in this thread.

I'm not seeing a "large majority" [sic] disagreeing with me. I'm seeing a couple of immature blowhards acting like they're king 🤬

EDIT: Thank you for proving my point, weavty.

I have no clue why they choose Thrustmaster to build this wheel. Maybe back in the day it made sense but now, they mainly build cheap peripherals.

Anyways here is straight from their facebook page.

"Another exclusive video from our R&D department ! Please note the unique and incredible 16-bit resolution (65536 values on the steering!) and the absence of a deadzone!"

That's what I said, on the second page... lol

Skipped trought the thread.. Sorry to hear this, kinda lost the ''damn I want a wheel so bad'' now..

When driving a car IRL and letting go of the wheel will have your car going in a straight line becouse of the camber (and caster) angle. EVEN AT HIGH SPEED! The weight of the car will have the wheels point forward!

A little thin-skinned? Or did you miss where I said "sorry, I can't help myself" right posting the pic of dumbbells? The advice I gave was honest and sincere. The joke was just a joke.

I didn't know you needed a firmware update either. For all I knew, you were someone who didn't understand how the haptic technology works, and since the symptoms you describe are normal on a lot of other wheel with this game and others, I was explaining it the same way I have to others before. You can't let the FFB overpower you. I thought that was your problem, and you just didn't want to accept that there are limits to the technology. I don't have that wheel, but I do have one that does the things you're complaining about, and I live with it because it can be overcome.

Your post was not one of the ones to which I was referring. No offense taken.

Fair enough. You seemed concerned over those questioning your arm strength, so I felt guilty.

No worries. Yours was clearly a joke; the other comments to which I was referring were from people who clearly have nothing better to do than try to start flamewars on a forum about a damn video game.

If you had played Shift prior to this with the wheel, you would be praising GT5's FFB, not condemning it!

Can't say I've ever driven a straight on public highways that didn't have some sort of camber in it, too... (got to drain that pesky rain!). Release the wheel too long, you're going off the road no matter WHAT you drive!

i got that wheel! suits me absolutely fine. easy to setup and easy to put away. i don't want my lounge looking like a boy racers doss. and them flipping wires ready to trip you up. it doesn't have force feedback but it doesn't have wires. what i like is when i dont play i just put it away.

I can vouch for the oscillation that occurs with Shift. I don't notice it as much in GT, but it is there. Strangely enough....F1 doesn't seem to have this issue, or it's not enough that I notice it.

Failure to provide a dead zone is just a stupid error. Even IF you don't need or want to create a dead zone, the option should always be there.
Every joystick I have ever owned allowed this. I have no idea why car games are getting away from it. There is a very slight dead zone on most cars IRL.

I couldn't read this massive thread to see if it was resolved, but the things that popped out to me was that he was running on Circuit da le Sarthe, which is the bumpiest track in the game, so of course it's going to jack the wheel back and forth.
Try the tunnel on SSR7 for a good test.
Also, could it be another part of the GT5 package that was over promised and under delivered? Naw, couldn't be that! ;)

I ran it again on High Speed Ring with the same results.

My DFGT did the 'shake & shimmy' thing at Le Mans 250 kph or more in GT4

The G27 does the same in GT5 - it's not an issue until you do the Le Mans 24hr race and man your shoulders start to give out!!

Should be better when I do the 'Ring 24 this weekend, less straights.

It's annoying but not something to put you off buying the wheels, love my G27!!
