Also, Genesis is going to have a refresh in 2012 and is asking the think tank about what they should do to improve it. Now I seriously doubt they're going to come up with 420hp (unless they magically install the v8), but we should see suspension and transmission improvements and new powerplants. And if Hyundai keeps the price right, we might see more Ford vs. Hyundai than Ford vs. Chevy.

Wouldn't the Hyundai be aiming at the 370 before the Mustang? The cars seem similar in philosophy. The 370 and Mustang are miles apart, however.
 
Yeah, most people are not going to cross-shop the Genesis and any of the pony cars. Those looking at pony cars probably don't even know about the Genesis. Most of my friends have never heard of it.

No, the Gen is a 2+2 just like the Mustang. Genesis aims for the G37S and competes with Mustang V6. It's a big car. They're gonna have to try for a sweet spot between Mustang v6 and v8 power though. Everyone cross shops all of these cars: G37, Gen Coupe, Camaro, and Mustang. But then there are the v8 flavors like Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger that also are pitted against eachother.
 
Wow, this is big news... Where have I been?? I'm going to go through a second gereration of Five-Ohs, goody. I was too young to enjoy the first. :lol: Would be nce to see the Genesis get the 4.6 like the sedan, though.. Then things would get interesting.. ;)

Indeed. But, we've got nearly 6-8 months before these come out, so Chevrolet still has time to step up the Camaro.

Except, by my judgment, they'll do so by adding in some model that costs $5K more than the GT Track & only make minor tweaks to the current models.

The best GM can do is a Z/28 Camaro that won't have more power than a GT500 and will cost as much.

My uncle has been hearing insane things about the 6.2... Something about either 500 ft-lbs or 500hp, considering it'll go into the trucks I'm leaning towards ft-lbs.

The 500/500 6.2L will be in the Raptor racing truck. The production one is gonna be 400/something I believe. The 6.2 will not see the Mustang, Ford execs claim it to be too heavy.

Maybe I'm missing something, but in the last generation of Camaro's, wasn't the Z/28 the equivalent to the Mustang GT, and the Camaro SS the top model?

Only on the currently off road only race trucks. The 6.2 for raptor "street" aka production trucks will have 400 up and gobs of torque. I believe the only difference to the engines is the tune they will be running.

Waaaay back in the day (2002), the Z/28 would have been put up against the GT and the SS to the (then) less-than-stellar SVT Cobra. Traditionally the differences between the Z/28 and the SS have been less about tiered performance levels and more about their focus in performance. In theory, the Z/28 should be the track-oriented toy, the SS the street performance machine.

Generally speaking, with the GT now having a 300+ lb advantage over the SS, GM will either be forced to up the output on the Camaro or come out with an entirely new model. The likelihood of a Z/28 is pretty high with the 556 BHP LSA engine, but with the CTS-V Coupe on the way, that may throw things up in the air as well. I still want a LS7-powered Z/28, but that's seeming to be an impossibility at this point.
 
If you're gonna go that way, call it something other than Z/28. L88 or something.

I vote for moving the SS up and putting the Zed between it and LS/RS. Then put the Zed on a serious crash diet, and make the SS a luxury "supercar" the way it was meant to be.

arguably, you got more power from the 396 Rat than you got from the 302 homologation mill.

Pictures of the brand new 5.0L engine sitting in the bay of the Mustang, and doesn't it look awesome?:D Seriously, it's a really cool look, and the 5.0 badge looks sweet :sly:, but I noticed they've done away with the strut tower brace on the GT, why on Earth would they do that? (And don't say clearance issues either, if the 5.0L is taller you just make a different strut tower brace, no excuses Ford :p)
 
Maybe there isn't time to have one tested and produced? From the looks of it, with the engine level with the strut towers, a brace might be too close to the hood for pedestrian safety regs.
 
That engine looks baller. I don't like that 5.0 emblem on the side of the car though.

The strut tower brace is really just an aesthetically add on, in the case of new S197 chassis. The chassis is surprisingly stiff to begin with, and a strut bar just adds unnecessary weight.

Even the S197 Mustang race cars don't use a strut tower brace, which tells you something about the rigidity of the newest Mustang platform 👍

I like it, pays homage to the old 5.0 *cough 4.9L*. That intake looks fantastic!
