So are we gonna have a 305hp V6 and a ~320hp 4.6L V8 for sale at the same time for a short period?

I agree with you that the magazine test in question does raise an eyebrow or two.

But this....

I'm simply not buying it.

Here is Stotty's reasoning:

D > A
E > A
A > B

Therefore, the conclusions one could draw are...

D > B
E > B

But somehow you THINK he is drawing this conclusion:

Z > B

Even though Z is never mentioned. Nor implied.

If you read closely he subliminally implies that Z > B.

When he says: "If the Z is that much better than a Mustang I hate to THINK how BAD the Mustang must be"...because he himself has a hard time imagining how awful the Mustang is, since the 370Z in his eyes is already bad enough according to some ragazine test he read (which was only a narrow minded test at that, in order to use to his favor )...and picturing in his head how bad the Mustang would be is inconceivable in his mind, given his past experiences with cars he's driven (which yes, includes his Porsche) and what he's heard in mag reviews which often are far from giving one a complete story and analysis of a car in ALL spectrums. Especially the Scirocco/Focus/370Z comparison, of course which he tried to use in an attempt to discredit the Z as being a genuine sports car  I mean, Really!?

YET when you get down to it, he has driven NONE of the cars that we've discussed (370Z, Mustang, Scirroco R, Focus RS), so how can he in ANYWAY think of, or imagine how bad the Mustang must be when he has absolutely NOTHING of any validity to BASE his judgment off of!!!???

This is what I've been getting at now for several post, with no real explanation...just ducking and turning of heads.

And how is he coming up with the 370Z being better than the Mustang when he doesn't seem to want to take into account anything I say anyways? After all, I was the one who said the 370Z is much more of a "sports car" in comparison to the Mustang. I guess it's just a matter of picking and choosing to help him belittle another car, and when I made that comment it allowed him to jump in with his sly/arrogant comment, with nothing more to add! Cool 👍

You are jumping to conclusions and personally, I think you're allowing your past negative experiences with other Porsche owners to unfairly influence your interaction with this one. You are failing to differentiate him from all the other Porsche owners you've talked to because you assume they are all alike. They're not.

I don't prejudge anyone. His passing of judgment when he has no experience with any of these cars is what made me comment on his rather ignorant statement. To say you can't "think" of how bad a car is when you have NOTHING valid to base your judgment on is IGNORANCE.

I think it's time to let it go.

Why? I think you guys just need to examine was said a little bit closer.

+1. Please make your responses outside the quotes, timeattack. Thanks.

I don't see how it's hard to read. My responses are in bold and I'm only speaking to you...I don't really care if outsiders can or can not differentiate between my responses and yours. The discussion is between you and me. It might not be the politically correct way of quoting, but I'll keep doing it as I don't see one bit how it makes things anymore difficult to read. My way of doing it is simply more condensed and less cluttered, with all my responses coming after a meaningful sentence or paragraph in which I felt like responding to. Simple enough 👍

Considering the turbos used on the Ecoboost V6 are near as makes no difference ATV turbos, they're going to need to be replaced no matter what, most likely the same for the manifolds, intake plumbing, intercooler(s?), etc.

Oh and they're direct injection which is apparently a bit of a bear to tune or upgrade fuel delivery with. So you may as well start NA.

You're getting carried away. The stock turbo's on the SHO are still good for roughly 450+ hp before they run too hot @ roughly 16psi+ vs 11psi stock, at which point they can easily be upgraded for little money (compared to an entire turbo kit which cost $6k on my car, plus installation which was another $2k. When everything was said and done it was closer to $10k with the fuel system and tuning).

Also lets not forget that the NA motor doesn't have Direct Injection and a lower compression ratio to handle as much boost on pump gas as the factory turbocharged Ecoboost. Not to mention it is much more difficult to remove a turbo kit to bring the car in for warranty work, rather than just reflashing the ecu to factory spec in the case of the ecoboost. Most dealers don't care about light mods like exhaust, intake, etc, as it usually isn't enough for them to claim damages because of such parts....a aftermarket turbo kit on a NA engine is complete different matter. As they'll basically void your warranty in EVERY aspect, drivetrain, suspension, electric, etc. I for one can speak on behalf of this.

And realistically the stock plumbing is likely good for well over 500hp, while the exhaust manifolds are good for god knows how much (you don't need huge exhaust manifolds on a turbo car to make solid power, especially on a decently large displacement FI'd 3.5 liter motor).

And lastly, saying it's better to start with a NA V6 and turbo rather than starting with a factory turbocharged V6 ecoboost is rather questionable considering the cost :odd: You might as well start with a V8 at the point like I did

The Ecoboost is a brand new motor, with very little developmental data atm. Given a little bit of time they will be very capable platforms, which undoubtedly will respond very well to mild mods and tuning. A competent tuner will have no problem tuning a Direct Injection FI'd motor might I add....it's just a matter of time in the case of the Ecoboost and getting the proper fuel system for higher hp. There are already several tuned SHO's out their with their boost levels raised using the factory fuel system. One of the guys is aiming for high 11's on the stock turbo's with light mods and meth injection...not bad for a car that weight well over 4000lbs.

If they're so worried about ecoboost creeping up on the GT, they could always, you know, give the GT an ecoboost 8. ... Just saying.

Rumor had it that the next GT500 would ditch the 5.4L S/C in favor of some kind of Coyote/BOSS-based EcoBoost V8. But I think that's been axed now. The new BOSS-powered Stang is supposed to pack over 400 BHP, although I'm betting they'll announce the new GT in Detroit as opposed to LA.

The big question is if the stock ECU can be cracked so you can run fuel system modifications. Direct Injection engines are notoriously difficult (if not impossible) to run with current standalones and are difficult to piggyback. Most commercial products don't have the raw computing power to run them without the stock system in place... though some piggybacks and ECU remapping systems do work with direct injection, there's still the question of whether you can get the stock ECU to run bigger injectors (or whether you can get bigger piezo injectors) with the high pressure fuel system.

Me? I'd just dump the whole thing, decompress the engine and start from scratch...

But this is America we're talking about... it was difficult with the Mazdas, but with Ford and Chevy doing DI now, there might be a critical mass reached where we'll see effective universal aftermarket direct-injection ECUs come out in the near future... drooooooool.

Seriously Methanol on a streeted Taurus....?

Lots of people running FI'd set-ups use Meth injection. Not that big of a deal really  It's a simple and cheap alternative to cooling the intake charge to be able to run more boost on pump gas, as well as helping to prevent detonation, without having to shell out $5 plus a gallon for 100+ octane.

Plus with a decent set-up, meth is only injected at a certain boost level. And might I add that a nice Meth set-up can be had for $400 or so.

meth-injection works wonders with forced induction... worth at least another 20-40 hp with the right set-up.

By that logic then, maybe we should just close up the whole Cars In General forum, then.

Let it 🤬 go, already. The only thing you keep coming back to is that his magazine article is a fraud & was against the 370Z from the start because they didn't portray the 370Z as a "true sports car". This despite the fact that he also posted articles from EVO & CAR who reached similar conclusions, but I guess they're a bunch of crooks against the Nissan, too.

And you still miss the point, COMPLETELY  It's also beyond me how you defend Stotty's declassifying of the Z as a "sports car", SIMPLY because it lost out in those test posted. May I commend you on your ignorance

I really find it funny how everyone else can go around talking smack when they don't have anything valid to base their claims on...yet, I always get attacked for defending what's right  And must bow down to their incorrect/ignorant basis of thinking 👎 I'm done, you can keep going, but I seriously have nothing to prove to people as crooked as the ones I'm arguing with.

Gentlemen, Talk about the Mustang, now, or I'll be forced to press the report button. Off topic chat helps no-one.

I haven't missed anything. You're obviously in a piss fest because of what Stotty said & continue to ignore all his points while focusing on 1 other.

Because you know what I've driven, right? Besides that, who says you're right besides you? You claim the Z is a true sports car, yet 3 journalists with arguably more credibility than you'll ever have say different. What makes you right?

And your last sentence is just full of cry baby tears. We don't agree with you, so now we're crooks. Grow up.

Good job getting the thread locked, gentlemen.

Thread will reopen in a few days, after the dust settles.

EDIT: Thread is open. Play nice.

Yep, the new Stang will be a murderer on all levels.;) This 5.0L is to be a Falcon motor too, so news is good to hear.:)

Wow. This is what the Mustang has been waiting for for over a decade now :) A factory motor that can compete with GM LSX series...good stuff 👍

The Stang has now claimed the title as the big boy of the pony car class. Epic indeeds.

Now if they had independent rear suspensions, it'd really send me over the edge.

This new engine is definitely all-aluminum, right? Or are they only saving the Al for the GT500s?

Sorry, Transformers Fanboys. I'm getting one of these. The question is...will they offer it in Highland Green?

Don't know, but the local panel shops will.:sly:

I would hope so the current 4.6 is all-aluminum.

Nah. Its been aluminum in the Mustang GT since 2005 (I think the SVT Cobras were also aluminum, but they were the 32-Valve engines so they don't really count).

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/18/i-autoweek-i-spills-more-beans-on-the-2011-ford-mustangs-5-0/

AutoWeek has decided to let the cat get just a little bit further out of the bag this morning following last night's first bit of embargo breakage regarding the 2011 Ford Mustang GT and its 5.0-liter V8 engine. So, by now you've heard that the new powerplant puts out 412 ponies, or 83 horsepower-per-liter. Now, AW wants you to know it also offers up 390 pound-feet of torque and that peak power comes at a screaming 6,500 RPM.

The new powertrain combination will also return 25 miles per gallon, says AW. How does it manage this feat? With an aluminum engine block with cast cylinder sleeves and brand-new heads with four valves per cylinder, vertical intake ports and twin independent variable valve timing. Don't forget the tuned exhaust headers, a forged steel crankshaft with four-bolt main bearings plus new pistons and connecting rods.

And what about the transmission? Your choice of either the 6R80 automatic transmission or the MT82 six-speed manual.

6500 RPM for an overhead cam 5.0 V8 is screaming? :odd: Maybe compared to the 302 Windsors. Sounds like a winner, though.
