But Motor Trend (of all people) put up 12.8s for the '11 GT. I think the new GT will easily beat the Camaro in a straight line--but I don't care about that. I do care about the handling, shifting feel (shifter and pedal) and of course the noise.

Motor Trend did 12.8sec, but was that with roll-out? I don't know why they bother with roll-out times. What did MT do with a Camaro SS? I think it was still 13-something seconds.

And V6 Camaros and Challengers now. I saw a Challenger R/T being driven by a girl at the gas station today.

You should come where I live, 80% of all fast cars, from V8 sedans, to V6 sports cars and turbo AWD rally cars, seem to be driven by middle-aged women. I saw a 370Z at the petrol station the other week, it was a 50yr old lady driving, her 50yr old friend was in the passenger seat.

Cadillac has a CTS Coupe they'd like to sell you.

For a slightly higher price.:O We haven't seen performance figures for that yet.....

I remember seeing a thread posted on 8thCivic linking somewhere else where a guy was doing something like mid 12 second quarters with a stock Camaro SS.

Paulie, there is a Nismo 350Z that's local around here, and driven by a 40 year old woman. Makes me want to cry when I see it.

VQ? Are you trying to say the VQ still outperforms this? This new Mustang is a couple pounds and a few ponies from matching the Z34 in acceleration and it meets the magical HR Z33s. And it's 24 or whatever grand. Don't get me wrong, with 35k in my pocket I'd be shopping Z vs GT and until I drive both back to back I have a hard time thinking the Z is in too high of a price range. But there is no denying sub 14 second 1/4 mile times from a sub 25k car is pretty impressive.

Hey, you acted like 300hp from a 3.7L V6 was unheard of, and we've seen it from Nissan for a little while now, as well as Chevy (3.6L). And Honda was pretty dang close to that in around 2004 with the 3.2L in the NSX approaching 300hp while everybody else slapped turbos on.

^ I'm sorry, for the price I'd take the CTS-V SportWagon instead. :D

OT-> Plus, a used GTO 6.0 is cheap! And before the Camaro, I'd take a certified G8 GXP first or a last-gen CTS-V. :sly:

BT-> If I'd get a Mustang Five-Oh, I'll try to make it look and perform like this:

^ Complete with JDM-plates! :dopey:

Hang on, MT said 0-60mph in 4.3sec? I bet that is with roll-out, as was their 4.5sec run with the Camaro. I'd like to see a more reputable source's results.

Well, Flowmasters will make V8s sound just about the same. I guess.

Of course, with the right exhaust, you can make a japanese four cylinder sound like an Italian Flat-plane-crank V8...

Generally speaking, there has always been a special sound attributed to the Modular that I'm sure this 5.0L will carry on. Its more of a bark, for the lack of a better explanation, compared to the Chevy and Mopar's roar. Nothing wrong with it, as in the hallowed halls of American V8 awesomeness, it gets the job done.

I think you have me confused with someone else.

Naw, I like them when they're new.

They don't sound bad, it's just that 75% of every Mustang, Camaro, lifted Ford/Dodge/Chevy truck and just about any other domestic with a v8 (or god forbid a v6 :yuck: ) has them fitted and they all sound damn near the same.

Stick a Super/Delta 44 on any car and you can hear it a mile away and know exactly what exhaust is fitted to it. No thank you.

I beg to differ.

Flowmasters on the Challenger v. on the 5.0

Stock the Challenger sounds nothing like that Fox body. With the Flowmasters they sound similar, and that's the problem I have with Flowmasters.

Yep, sorry. Paulie made the original comment.

Well then you mis-interpeted my post entirely, I meant that a 13sec 1/4mile was impressive for a V6 pony car, and impressive for a N/A V6 at all, even if some other cars have been doing it a little while now.

I love everything about that car, the colour, the Japanese plates, the fact that it's drifting, the rims, everything. If I got a Stang it would have to look like that for sure.

I like how the rear wheels are locked up though

Do any of you think that Dodge would even have the money to tweak and keep up with the other "pony cars" at the moment? I wonder if Chevy will be able to respond quickly with their sometimes hinted at weight savings for the Camaro. For now though Ford will probably own the sales and performance for quite a while. Next up, 6.0L and 6.2L Commodore vs 5.0L Falcon.

Does anyone else find it wierd that the new 5.0L HAS to be in the Falcon range within 2 months yet no official announcements or unveils have yet to take place? My guess is they want to clear the Boss 5.4 units off showrooms rather than see people hold out for the new 5.0L.

I thought a 6.4 HEMI was in the works for the Challenger in 2011 or 2012.

Also I read the 2015 Camaro will be built on a smaller Cadillac platform.

Yeah, the rumour was that the next Camaro will be on the Alpha platform, same as the Cadillac ATS, which will be smaller. I could be mistaken, but weren't the 6.4 HEMI rumours dismissed in the end? Either way, both Dodge and Chevy need to do something soon (2015 is FAR too long to wait ) to keep up with the Mustang.

I can only recall seing three new Focus RS's, two of which i see regularly. A white one i saw the other day was driven by a bloke who must have been in his 60's. The other two, a blue one and an 'ultimate green' one are both driven by women in their late 40's!

So in conclusion, the whole world has gone bonkers.

I think I remember reading about someone from Chevy being interviewed and they were asked if they were concerned about the new 5.0. He just smiled and said wait till next year. Sounds like a power bump.

As far as I know, the 6.4 is still on.

That, or they'll do the right thing and stick the 7.0L LS7 under the hood. While stripping out the stupid stuff.

DO IT GM.

I doubt they would do the LS7. It's a hand assembled engine and expensive to make. Dumb move if they want to keep prices competitive with Ford.

It'll probably be the new LS8 in the SS, and the Z/28 if it ever comes, will get the LSA.

Supposedly it's what is going to power the future Z06. It's another supercharged 6.2, making around 500hp. Below the LSA.

But thats if they put a new motor in the Camaro at all. My guess is they found another 25+hp in the current n/a 6.2.

Why would they want to put a heavier, boosted motor in it rather than the LS7 that works just fine (and having a 427 small block is just badass anyway). The ability to tune up the "LS8" would make the LS9's power advantage a nonissue.

Because as I stated before, the LS7 is hand built, and very expensive.

The LS7 is a great motor, but it putting it in the mid level SS would be too costly, and putting it in the Z28 would make it non competitive with Ford's GT500.

Really, it all boils down to whether or not GM wants to make the LS7 proliferate among their vehicles, and whether or not they want to make the investment in a powerplant that is arguably better-suited to a lightweight sports car to a pretty massive pony car. Chances are that if there is any significant update to the LS3 to boost power, fuel efficiency and overall performance it would be the addition of direct fuel injection and variable valve timing that could turn the tables on Ford.

...But, all of that is supposed to debut on the Gen V engine program. Which is supposed to be debuting, well, now-ish.

I don't understand GM Brad. Why do they insist on using these larger displacement engines instead of using some R&D like Ford and come out with something that has less than 6.0L that produces the power and has the fuel economy like the new Ford 302? GM can do it, why do they choose not to? Are they that scared and or to broke to try?

I think you might have answered your own question. GM's financial situation is nowhere near that of Ford. I haven't checked their stock price since they (pretty much)went down, but I'm betting their finance is pretty lean still.
