7,000 is the new redline, up from 6,500. I think 7k is a nice redline for any sporty V8. Pretty sure the Vette's LS3 redlines at 7k as well.

Yes, you're right. But 7k for a Msutang, now that's news to me. Did the SVTR even do that back in 2000?

I'd be surprised if the LS3 made any power to that high though, but the LS7 does.

700lbs?! Surely not!:scared:
As I said, I don't know for sure; but be sure to keep in mind that the 5.4 is an iron-block DOHC truck engine with physical dimensions that exceed those of the old Ford 385 big block, so it isn't that far fetched. Also note that the engine as used in the GT500 weighs nearly 840 pounds, so the NA version of the engine can't be too much lighter.

Isn't the 4.6 SOHC an iron block though? That's why I was expecting a drastic weight drop, iron block to alloy.
Nope. The 3-valve engine switched over to aluminum in 2005 coinciding with the S197 Mustang. It is still iron in the Ford Explorer, though.

I think it may have but I doubt it. The old 5.4 is a hyooge engine with fairly small bores and a very long stroke, making it good for low-end twist but not so much for being wound up high.

Damn, that thing sounds epic.

Almost makes me forget and forgive them for Knight Rider.

Almost.

All will be forgiven when they toss me a set of keys...

Holy intake Batman! Listen to that intake! I'm in love, this makes all the right noises and looks EPIC in black. I'm sold. Shove it Camaro.
As am I, but I'm not counting the Camaro out yet. Hopefully GM can really give it some more performance within the next 9 months.

I think 6,500RPM was the redline for all the Cobras, even the R.

Well then given the 4.6 was already an Aluminium block, this is really just a power upgrade for the Stang, although something it sorely needed. But if the iron block 5.4 really is that heavy, the V8 Falcons stand much much more to gain from this engine than the Mustang does. I'm already shaking in my boots over the prospect that the V8 Falcons, may, for the first time in probably a few decades, be faster than the V8 Commodores.:nervous::lol:

See that's what I thought. So this is quite good, a little rev-vier Mustang. Can't wait to see one on the street. :D

That dyno video was awsome. Can't wait to hear these in person.

It'd be awesome if I got to drive one in a Falcon at my Ford dealership, but that's very unlikely to happen.:(

Who knows? If this engine design goes off without a hitch, it may finally be enough for Ford to get rid of the 5.4l.

They've been saying for months now we're getting this 5.0L, it's almost a given, but chances are they won't LET me drive one. Especially because company insurance doesn't cover under 25s.:banghead:

Awesome news! The pic of the new fender badge on the car is obvious photoshop. It'll look much better on person. While I would have preferred the old 5.0 badge, the new one ain't bad. There's a member at The Mustang Sorce forums by the name of Clino. He made a 5.0 badge from the same font as the current GT emblem, and it's absolutely PERFECT. I would link the picture over here, but I'm on my ipod... For anyone that looks, his avatar is a picture of the badge
Here's the badge:

The '03-'04 Mach 1 revved to 6800 with a manual trans

Oh my god that thing sounds epic. Looks incredible in black as well. Guess 2010 Camaro owners should get used to seeing those tailights!

How many pony cars do you think remain stock?:sly: It's all a matter of which driver is more rich in a straight up drag race........

Yeah but the instant these things start growing superchargers...

7-8psi with good intercooling will put them around 600hp... Which is nuts. If the bottom end can handle 15psi the world is screwed and there'll be hell to pay for anything and everything near these things.

Camaros are not very different, but again, a case of money.;)

They sound wrong. Too tinny and raspy most times.

Said the rotary fan, again.:p:lol:

You know what, I don't care what you think there, that opinion is just plain outright wrong, you can't say an LSx engine sounds tinny or raspy, because it just doesn't, it sounds phat, muscular and tough. So does this new 5.0L.

You're in Australia, you get to listen to them with proper exhausts. Here we deal with the restrictions implied by F-bodies and 'Vettes.

F-bodies are more common. And that means 8 > 2 > 1 > 2 exhaust. Which sounds like crap.

So buy a sports exhaust like any good V8 owner should do.:p

That's just it... Everyone has aftermarket exhaust and yet they all sound like trash thanks to packaging restrictions. It's nearly impossible to run true duals under an F-body.

I don't like the sound of V8s unless they sound like Venari's cougar or are revving high with a monster cam.

That said, the mustang has some interesting looking exhaust manifolds. I wonder what gains there are to be had with headers and a nice true-dual x-piped system.

+1 Absolutely!

In America--and at least around this area--a small number of new cars are modified. 10,000's of these will be sold and less than 25% will be modified as most of the buyers are people over the age of 35 and will use them as daily commuters. Infact less than 5% will have mods that are more than intake and or exhaust.

I can't wait to hear this thing supercharged!

Yeah but I don't like how LSxs sound. So nyah. :p

Me either, they sound like ass. They sound fake. Can't explain it. The LTx series was the last great sounding SBC.

How can you not like how LSxs sound?:p

Because they don't sound very good compared to its competition.

They sound wrong. Too tinny and raspy most times.

Don't forget not enough low frequency grumble. The LSx engines do not burble like previous SBC engines and even some Euro V8's do (listen to a Merc V8 made in the last 30 years and you'll understand).

I'm the opposite of a Rotary fan, infact I dislike Rotary engines--but I also don't like the LSx. The LT1 Z28 sounds better than the LS1 Z28. It just does. Ford Modular V8's sound way better, as does the 302. Hell my 305 in my old Camaro makes a better noise than the LSx.
