Uh, the car says "Mustang" right on the car. That means it is ACTUALLY a MUSTANG. It doesn't say "Pinto" does it?

I agree, while I still hold to the fact that i wouldn't buy a V6 mustang I don't understand why people must think that anyone that buys a V6 mustang is less of a man? I just want more power.

I agree in principle, the new V6 is insanely good however. Makes a brilliant noise and is cheap. I do want the V8, but wouldn't be too sad if I could only afford the V6. :D

If I can't afford the V8 I think I might wait and see what the 2012 Focus has to offer.

While it is true that a lot of "girls" buy the V6, the new V6 is no longer a "secretary special", not with over 300 hp on tap and 0-60 times around 5 flat (depending on which final ratio you get).

It's much faster (in testing by the same magazine) than the V6 Camaro and the V6 Genesis... which are its main competitors. And just a few ticks slower than the 370Z, which has two less (useless) seats, and reportedly drives very well around the track. (emphasis on VERY).

Pretty good for a "girl's" car.

Funny news about the Mustang... apparently, a nearly stock GT won Forum wars... or, at least according to Jalopnik's calculations... best road course time (by over a second... versus some 500-700 hp cars, including a Porsche Turbo and a few GT-Rs), and he cut a pretty good 1/8-mile.

Of course, the driving of many of the other contestants was atrocious, but hey, that's life... :lol:
 
V6 Mustang was the Mustang you were ridiculed for, if you were a guy. Not here to debate if it was uncalled for, I'm just here to say that was the truth. Lots of men bought them too, but that did nothing to change the trend.

Like how some of you feel, this new V6 might be the game changer. Personally, I do think that this is the V6 that will make it OK for the guys to "want" a V6 Mustang. I do think. So.
 
Right. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of V6 and i4 cars and even I6 cars that are prefectly manly. Like the Skyline R32-34, Toyota Supra, TVR, and BMW M3 (I6), the SRT4 (which the A853 in the SRT4 helped it set a landspeed record for 4-cylinder production cars at Bonneville) and Lancer Evo (I4), and Ferrari (Dino), Alfa Romeo and Chrysler (V6), but Mustang and V6 just don't seem to go together. In fact, it's a bit ironic that Ford is pushing the V6 Mustang, 'cause, in the 60's, when the 'Stang first came out, it had a V6 and they had trouble selling it, so they turned to Shelby who dropped the V8 from the Cobra in it.

If I was going to buy a new Mustang (and believe me, I would) it would have to be a V6 since it makes more sense then the V8. I mean a $7,000 difference for 100hp? I'm good on not shelling out that sort of money. I'm sure the V6 Stang is plenty fast with 305hp.

The only people that would make fun of me too would be the asshats that think only V8's can be fast.
 
Anybody still making fun of the V6 Mustang is just an idiot. Dallas has quite a few 5th Gen. V6 models that will make mince meat out of any stock pre-'10 GT, not that the car was stupid fast to begin with. I have no problem myself hanging on to a GT's fender in my ol, slow V6.

I honestly would really like the GT, but their financing is outrageous & once you put everything you want on it, the car's not far from $40,000 & I'm not paying that kind of cash for a Mustang. The V6 is however, more affordable. It's problem though, is that once it has options, it's now on the heels of a GT's MSRP & then you have to decide what you want.

I don't blame anyone for wanting the V8 over the V6, but the latter is the seller as Omnis said & with 300Bhp on tap, it will be more than enough for anyone. If not, there's a catalog of mods to push it at 400Bhp easy.

$40k? Just out of curiosity what options put it to that price? Maybe I didn't put that many options but mine came out to $33k... Which isn't cheap but not $40k.

I think $40K is when you really throw on all the options including a lot of the cosmetic & bigger wheel ones.

However, seems a lot of GTs are reaching those prices due to the damn markups. 👎

I priced a GT (not premium) with the Brembo package and a few visual accessories.

And note: the Cobra engine came from Ford, not the other way around.
 
sounds like GM and Chrysler will need a new platform already.

because the Mustang has a 200 kg advantage (and i'm being conservative in my estimates) for practically the same power output.

this weight difference is even more important within the weaker 6 cylinders.

now if they could only fix the ugly rear bumper on the Mustang, it would be perfect.
 
I'm not sure about Chrysler, but GM already has a smaller RWD chassis in the middle of development that will underpin the (Cadillac) ATS as well as the new Camaro. It is supposed to be a 3-series sized platform, probably of similar weight, and should be flexible for a wide variety of vehicles to come of it. If we're lucky, we might get a low-level Chevrolet sedan out of it too.

are they ditching it? is it because of the non-existant trunk space?

that car could make a good Cadillac entry-level car. Cadillac doesn't have one.
 
All three (well, four) were killed last year by GM, just before they were about to transfer production of the cars down to Bowling Green, KY. Its a shame because the chassis was rather good, they just didn't spend the money to make it totally awesome for everything else. As far as I know GM has planned to scrap it entirely, despite the talk that they were going to cross-breed it with the next Corvette chassis.

I believe that, as of now, the Alpha chassis is going to underpin almost all of the new RWD GM products in the next few years. Either that, or Sigma II. I believe they're scrapping the rather heavy Zeta platform after this generation as well.
 
It is from GM's "spend hundreds of millions of dollars on R&D for something and then shelve it for made up reasons bred out of ignorance" marketing campaign. It is the same idiotic attitude that is making the DeVille replacement be a FF-biased AWD car that will likely weigh more, get worse mileage and have less room than if they had simply put it on the Zeta.
 
The new Mustang has its ups and downs

I like the new front end and I like the new engines

The rear looks like it has an enormous chin, and it's just too expensive.

HOWEVER

In my opinion, if you're going to rehash an old model (Mustang, Beetle, Mini, Charger, Camaro), the only requirement is that it must be built in the same spirit as the original.

The first gen mustangs could be bought by anyone. There were the cheap I6's for secretaries and teenages and there were the more expensive V8 pony cars for the owner who wanted a bit more punch, and then the Shelbys for the people with a deathwish and a large wallet. Anybody could say they owned a Mustang, and no eyebrows would be raised

This new Mustang plays the part of the muscle car very well, but fails to appeal to the lower budget, lower testosterone crowd.

Actually, the V6 Mustang is quite affordable. It's well on par with it's competition.

They could make it even cheaper with a four-cylinder. Though I doubt a turbo-four would be significantly cheaper than a V6.

Imagine... a $19k Mustang with a 200 hp 2.5 liter naturally aspirated four. The indignity. :lol:

They could easily apply weight savings to the Zeta, but GM USA screwed over Holden with the Zeta,👎 and I'm wondering where the Commodore is headed chassis-wise, because the Alpha sounds too small. I figure Holden will be stuck with Zeta long after it's started to show its age with not enough money to make anything new.
 
Easy to do if you maintain just 40 mph for 1000 miles and have an ultra-long overdrive gear.

Not quite so easy with a 3.7 liter engine...

Especially not that one.

When we drove the CX-9, we averaged just 18 mpg, highway... took a hell of a lot of work just to get it to 25 mpg. That's some good eco-driving. Especially if they didn't utiilize the omnipresent pulse-and-glide... and even if they did, that's still amazing for that particular motor.
 
The new 2011 Mustang takes on the CTS-V Coupe, although one is more luxury orientated and the other more sporting, a good point is made that these 2 cars are very similar. (Warning: Drag race only)

 
Funny, most people are raving about how sexy the Coupe is, I for one don't think much of the rear end, but as a whole don't mind it. The winner can easily be the car that crosses the line first you know.....
