Grrrrrrr. Im truely saddened with the 4WD just because I'd like to race the other rwd cars. I have owned a 00' 02' and now own an 04' Lightning, they've never been 4WD and never will, just to clear that up again. I have never played any GT game yet, hell, I don't even own an PS2. I will be purchasing a PS2 just for this game though, cant wait. Im not sure why MaxEva doesnt think the Lightning is any good.. 13.6~ 1/4 with .86skidpad for under 30K is decent I think. People have opinions and I respect that, so carry on.

Sad news for all you Lightning fans. It's in the game, but the developers messed up.
It's tire-smoking, power-sliding FR in real life, but 4WD in the game.
I never even noticed in the dealer section, but later I was racing the Beginner 4WD Series, and was surprised to see the Lightning was one of my opponents.

Bright side of this being, I doubt that somehow they estimated what the Lightening would weigh with an AWD drivetrain... So if the Lightening recieved an AWD drivetrain without taking a hit with the added weight, it would make it a great deal faster and handle better. Dunno though, they might have added more weight...

Hmm.. But is there anyone who can make some pics of the SVT Lightning in GT4, please? This thread is going on for long now, but we still haven't seen pics of this car ingame. Thanks

Would you see this issue more as a mistake or a misconception committed by PD?

It seems that Tamiya also believes the Ford Lightning is 4wd:

The SVT F-150 Lightning chassis is based on a precisely designed TL-01 chassis that incorporates shaft-driven full-time 4WD system equipped with quality differential gears in front/rear sealed gearboxes.

Tamiya R/C Ford SVT F-150 Lightning

No most (if not all) of Tamiya's chassis's are AWD. Actually I am looking at a Cobra-R AWD eletric car from Tamiya sitting on my dresser as I type.

Actually these cars are pretty sweet, mine'll hit around 35mph :)

My mistake then. I had been thinking that perhaps PD had based the Lightning in the game off a Tamiya model, rather than a real car, and gotten the idea it was 4WD from there. Nah, they couldn't be that stupid!

I wanted a Tamiya but they were a bit expensive for me. I settled for a Kyosho Mini-Z, not as fast but still fun.

I bought mine in a kit form for 99.99USD. Although I did need to upgrade to a better controler and ecu, so that was another 84.99, then I had to buy a battery+charger, round another 60.00, and I upgraded the engine 40.00, and had to buy a dremel to cut the wheel wells, then 5.00 bucks for the paint :P

So if you wanted a Tamiya TL-01, 150.00 would be about a fair starting out price. How much did the mini-Z's cost?

Tower hobbies sells them for USD$129.99 complete. No need to buy radio, ecu or servos. I did have to buy some batteries and a charger though. I didn't know you could get a Tamiya going for USD$150, I thought the motors, ecus and radios were terribly expensive. Still I have no regrets.

Umm.. this is kind of off-topic for the thread though .. should mention something about the Lightning .. umm Lightning is 4WD in GT4 .. umm bad. 👎

its not PD's fault for not including some of the newer cars in the game

i'd blame it on the developer for not supporting the game. PD have full support from BMW and Nissan, and even allow them to model the cars into the game before it is even revealed to the Public. the C6 could've made its way into the game if GM actually allowed PD to model the C6 before anyone could see it.

For SRT-10 not in the game, its probably Dodge never lent them a car to test in the first place. plus dodge probably wanted to market the name "HEMI" even more. since more ppl in this world would buy a car/truck with HEMI engine then a Viper engine.

that thing got a hemi :yuck: my freakin eclipse had a hemi  dodge played it out...

If the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was in the game with the Hemi-powered Ram truck, what would that do for the GT series? Trucks are already in the game, if only a few, so what do you think?

Some of you may disagree, but trucks have actually been in GT since the second one. The first truck in the GT series? The Daihatsu Midget D-Type. Okay, maybe not a full-size one, but it's a start. And besides, it's in GT4. It also holds my personal record for "Slowest GT Race In History." I'll tell you more about it hopefully. Meanwhile, I'd better keep typing up replies before we get ravaged by a big storm here...

How about the Dodge Ram SRT-10 instead of the 1500 quad cab. Why? Because it has 160 more hp, a shorter wheelbase, better aerodynamics (the hard bed cover thingy amongst other things), oh yeah and a six speed.

Need I say more?

[EDIT]

Why the Hemi Ram is in the game to begin with is beyond me. I mean look at this.

Tacoma X runer!
Silverado SS!
F-150 SVT Lightning!
Ram 1500 Laramie quad cab?

I feel a song coming on.

exsactly,

i posted about this in this forum,

DRIFT GOD
if there has to be a QUAD CAB DODGE RAM in the game, why the hell didnt they use the SRT-10 QUAD CAB ???
it looks a hell of alot beter and the V10 has more power/torque than the stupid HEMI, plus it comes stock with 22' wheels 👍

Especially when you consider that the SRT10 is the fastest of the group...unmodded of course. :sly:

I'm not going to make a rant, but it is kind of a shame to put in trucks... and not the SRT-10 Ram. This truck has a very significant motor, the latest Dodge Viper motor with 500 horsepower. With all due respect to the new Hemi, the machine was given a high-speed shakedown and became the fastest production truck in the world. And if you're PD, working on historically-significant vehicles, how can you pass this one up? And if you think about it, lighten the truck, give it some new suspensions, maybe adjust the ride height, this thing would be a damn race car! Well, a race truck at that.

However, if it doesn't make it into the game, I'd still want something that already looks like its own sportscar, the latest Toyota Tacoma. I'm not sure which one it is, but it's low to the ground with a big hood scoop and a meaner front. Regardless, I'm okay with a 4WD Lightning. As long as I have the thing to race.

*cough* "Big Oversized Ugly Truck" *cough*

FYI, that "big oversized ugly truck" just completely owned a blown 5.0 Mustang, Corvette Z06, and a twin turbo Supra. (For those of you who are stuck on 56K and can't download a 100MB movie file, it's a twin-turbo Chevy Silverado Z71 running upwards of 600hp.) Trucks can own you, and have the added advantage of being able to squish you much more efficently than a Toyota GT1 can.

Hey all,

After reading all the posts I went for the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning '03 and creamed all the beginer races.

It seems a fairly stable truck. Hopfully it will come in handy later on in the game.

Cheers all

👍

Just in case anyone's wondering, I have the NA version, and the Lightning is RWD. And it does effectively smoke the tires.

yes if people debate me and tell me why the svt is anygood i'll change my opinion!

Hey, man. I figured I'd try and answer your question since everyone else is playing "ignore the idiot." So I'll try and enlighten you as to MY personal reasons for enjoying my Lightning. And thankfully, it was cleared up that it is a RWD vehicle, and has NEVER been 4WD. I was going crazy reading through this thread and seeing that...

I have a '01 Ford Lightning. I bought it used when I returned from Afghanistan, and only paid 21k. This was in...late 2002 I believe?

The reasons I bought it, and why I consider it such a great vehicle is the utility. I've moved several times with only my Lightning. The bed isn't as huge as a monstrous diesel truck, but still gets the job done. I am able to carry a ton of crap in the bed, and tow a fair amount.

On top of this, I have a vehicle that ran mid-13's stock. I bought a lower pulley for the supercharger, cold-air intake, and had my chip reflashed. This all cost $650 total (please keep in mind I bought the CAI and pulley used).

These simple and cheap modifications gave me a high-12 second truck. The truck has a fairly robust aftermarket, and building a Lightning capable of 11-second runs is common. And every day someone else on our forums is breaking into the 10-second area.

So I have a truck I can haul stuff with, the interior is comfortable to me, and the performance is pretty awesome. I've ran a best of 11.7, with about 4k in modifications. I am NOT saying that other cars can't do the same for cheaper, or faster, or better, or ANYTHING. Just that the Lightning is a hugely-capable of truck that gives its owner a genuine joy in driving. There is also a large group of people involved in road-racing and auto-x their Lightnings, and they do extremely well. Believe it or not, our 4-wheeled bricks can handle, too. :)

I'm sure none of this convinces you, but...if you're ever in Oregon, look me up. We'll go line up with some cars around town...a few WOT blasts with that supercharger screaming will clear up any misconceptions you might have about why we think our trucks rock. 👍

Take care, sorry for the long message and any errors. It's 7am and I haven't slept. Damn GT4... :D
