Hopefully the taillights on that "guess" aren't right. They looks straight off a 1990s concept car.

That’s actually a pretty recent phenomenon. Go back ten years and you don’t see that very much, go back 20–30 years and you don’t really see it at all.
Ah, good point. But of course cars back then all seemed to have similar trends going. I suppose it's just the way the industry works, eh? Somebody comes up with something that sells or evokes some sort of emotion well, and all the others try to emulate it. That's been the case with BMW's flame design language; everyone else now has swoopy wavies and sharp creases and cut lines.

Anyway, I like that rendering. It looks tough. I do wish the Mondeo was sent over here, but I think the tough image might work a little better on this side of the pond. Maybe they could have redone the sheetmetal and simply frame changes to support this sort of tough design. But whatever, it's a step in the right direction.

THE LEGEND RETURNS!

Jalopnik
These exclusive first shots of a SHO-badged dashboard in testing outside an unknown location are the first piece of evidence portending the reawakening of the Ford Taurus SHO with the 2010 Ford Taurus.

We don't have any details besides these shots of a dashboard emblazoned with a SHO trim level moniker. It's safe to guess the new "Super High Output" Taurus will have the same flavor of Ford's wicked Ecoboost technology as that found in its platform-mate, the Lincoln MKS AWD, which would mean the same rumored 350 HP and 350 lb-ft of torque.

With the new 2010 Ford Taurus looking as dapper as ever, the return of its hot-rodded performance variant can only be good news. No one at Ford has yet confirmed the existence of a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, or a 2011 SHO, but these pictures don't leave much to the imagination. A look at these exclusive photos here on Jalopnik show the SHO badge emblazoning a SYNC-enabled Taurus prototype dash. Compared to the regular Taurus seen in these interior spy shots, the dash appears to have a carbon fiber-esque look to it around the gauge cluster and above the airbag.

Don't expect it to arrive at January's Detroit Auto Show, where the non-SHO model will debut. Instead, the Chicago Auto Show or New York Auto Show seem like a safer bet.

Nice move Ford! I'll bet that she'll show up in Chicago, probably with the 350 BHP AWD setup. I'm not even sure what the main competitor would be for a car like this, but it has the SHO fanboy in me all excited. This should be awesome.

Epic win!
Even more epic win if it will have an available manual trans!

:DDDDDDDDDD

I think I'mma call this one Mad Bull. I mean, the C63 I've named Trogdor, and the ZR1 the Devil Z, (Also decided upon using MT's Ichiban Designation for the GT-R)...this is just too awesome to NOT have a nickname.

I was hoping for a FWD that way we'd get epic torque steer.

Somebody was saying epic fail on this one, which I'm going to have to partly agree with. it'll go like stink, but the new Taurus, even in SHO form, probably won't have quite the same mentality of the old one.

Awesome?

Awesome. Please, Ford, don't pull a Chrysler and act a fool against your customers' will. The SHO is an enthusiast car, and therefore needs enthusiast performance hardware. You simply must offer a manual transmission. Six gears, ho!

Oh, and give all those crazy electronic nannies it's probably going to have a proper "Off" switch. Thanks!

I can't wait to see this..... :D The return of the SHO.... 👍👍 Awesome... now, if Ford gets the brains to bring back the SVO Mustang, and bring over the Focus RS.. then we will have something going right! ;):sly:👍 Randy

Maybe when the economy turns around. So far that has anything without the intentions of selling in massive numbers on hold.

This is innovation? Looks like a lump. They changed from the old bland styling and "finally" adapted a new bland styling.

I'm still waiting for someone to come out with a new car that doesn't have wedge-butt. I think we'd see a lot of people flocking to a car if its company humored me by offering a parallel main line.

I think you're wrong. I can't think of anything "new" or "exciting" about that idea...all I can think of is a Crown Victoria.

They would sell about 5.
The original and second generation SHO had manual transmissions available. The last generation, the Jelly Bean, the one with the greatest engine of them all, did not, however, and that reflects all the mistakes that marked the beginning of the end of the Taurus.

While I have seen more Jelly Bean SHOs than I have either of the first two generations, I've never seen in person an automatic version of the first two models. It's a performance sedan, and the biggest mistake any company can ever make on a performance sedan is to not offer a manual transmission.

I can has Yamaha heads?

Volvo will sell you some... They still use that engine in the XC90 and S80, right?

Actually, I think the choice to (presumably) go with a twin-turbocharged V6 is a good one for this SHO. It'll be interesting to see what the other companies will come up with if they manage to sell a bunch. Kinda makes you hope GM comes up with a forced-induction system for the new 3.0L V6 or for the current hi-po 3.6L unit.

The SVO never sold well when it was around. It was purely an entusiasts car. It was slower than the 5.0 and had about the same gas mileage, but for over 1k more. It showed before, the SVO will not sell well without being at the very least the same price as the GT

Somebody say Malibu SS?...

You know that Malibu could look badass with a little fascia upgrade, because it already looks pretty tough. Plus, couldn't they swap in the AWD system from one of its platform mates? Does that platform offer any AWD? My mind is blank right now.

EDIT: I just realized there are now two very active threads in here about two very cool Ford cars. Awesome. The only cool Ford cars I can think of from the recent past have been the GT500 and the GT. But now we've got two going at the same time. Woot!

I personally think the Taurus and Malibu are getting too big for these sporty versions, or at least that's how they look. However a SHO (or SVT) Fusion and an Impala SS with forced-induction V6s would make for an interesting battle...

Somebody say Malibu SS?...

It could be done very easily, but I wouldn't expect it until it makes the jump to Epsilon-II in 2011. The Epsilon platform that it currently rides on right now does have this...

A 280 BHP Turbocharged V6 and "XWD" make for a strong performance in that funky sedan, and it certainly would be interesting in a Malibu. Although, I begin to wonder if they'd just opt for the 304 BHP 3.6L V6 and use an AWD setup.

I was talking to Cody about this earlier. For the first time in a long time, Ford is making some amazing cars. With the Fiesta and Focus on the way, not to mention the new Fusion, Taurus, F-150, etc... They're on their way to becoming a good car company again.

HOLY EFFING EPIC!

... I'm blown away.

Ditto. That design makes the car look VERY large, but indeed Ford has scored another home run. 👍 The European / Australian design cues in the front are fantastic, and I love the new grill. (absolutely hated the old one)

Wow , I just realized that everything from the A-pillar and back looks like the production version of the 2007 Ford Interceptor concept, especially the rear!

and the flex w/ecoboost has 355hp and 350 torx.

mustang, please.

actually, fusion.

and i guess this too, which looks stunning by the way.
