What you think should PD put formation lap in GT5? It would be awesome that you start from pit and go to formation lap and try to heat you tires like in real race.:gtpflag:

It would just take too much time out of the race. It would be good to learn the track, but you might as well do that on your own time.

For NASCAR races, definitely. I don't want NASCAR races controlled Prologue-style until I cross the line, either at the start or after a caution....I want to do the lap(s) and start the race myself.

they will never include it. It's too hard for nubs to wait one whole lap..

but if they do this.

I think it'll be only for championships...

People have got desperate in finding topics to make a new thread about!!!...

(but id rather not waste part of the race on a fomation lap, nascar or not!)

with private rooms everyone can do as they like

I seriously don't get why there has to be a new thread for every single thought about gt5 :-/

Its not that hard to comprehend... this is a forum about a game that has not been released and we have very little info about. Either you get threads like this or the forum just stagnates. When the game releases or even if we get some good news these types of threads will die off... I dont see any point in complaining about these threads, if you dont like them, come back when the game is released and people have something to actually talk about.

Anyway, on topic, I dont mind the idea as long as it has the option to skip it like in GTR, because for the most part the formation lap is boring and it makes it all the more frustrating if you crash on the 1st corner if you've just had to wait for a formation lap.

Around 97-98% of the gameplayers won't bother using it.

Just like rewind (at the other end of the realism spectrum) it should not be in the game.

if you dont like this thread then you have 2 options...

option 1 - make your own, more intresting thread.

or option 2 - dont come into this thread if you find it boring, no 1 asked you...

That's true, about the desperation.

More to the point, if these kind of topics arnt created then the forums die off when no new news about GT5 is out, which actually happens anyway. Forums have been really low recently, i think PD need to release new info or a new video before christmas to maintain excitement levels.

People do not understand that formation lap is part of a race.. as well doing hot laps for your standings.

But, I agree that it should not be added for 2-10 lap races.. only if we see 15 plus lap races and all endurance events.

I think it would be great for longer races that involved tire wear/temp brake wear/temp (if they are to be simulated, maybe expecting too much for brake wear/temp) but for the shorter sprint races, not something that would be worth while. Anything to make GT more realistic IMO is a good thing, but it should be optional.

I totally agree. Things like practice, qualifying, formation laps etc. are all well and good in the real world when you are at the wheel of a car, but for me do not translate well to games. Take F1 2009 that I played recently on a friends Wii - if you play each track properly you end up doing two practice sessions, followed by thre qualifying sessions, followed by the race itself. It's boring - so thankfully Codemasters saw fit to place you roughly mid-pack if you choose to just jump straight into a race.

I don't have an issue with such features being in the game as long as they are optional, and that you are not penalised heavily for skipping them.

Having to do a formation lap before every race would be dull. Having to do it on circuits like La Sarthe or the Nurburgring be be enough for me to avoid racing on those circuits.

Just imagine the carnage of 16 online players trying to heat their tyres whilst driving slowly in formation behind a pace car for a whole lap.

I wouldn't mind it, often I would enjoy it, but like other games/sims you should be able to easily skip it.

Think it would be cool .. but to conrtole it would be somthing els .

What gona stop one dude from just driving off and getting lead . AND if you do have to stop at the grid .. before the strat .. you will get there and have to wait around for some knob's playing around in the back .

Then an idea comes to mind .. that you just control the steering and not the speed . BUT whats the fun in that ..

I trust PD has come up with all this ideas before .. but have to think it thoug before you consider putting it in a game ?!

No. It would be stressful when you should warm your tyres on Nurb' Nordschleife. Driving 80 kmh for a whole lap on Nurb' isn't a good idea.

And i'm not going to do 1 lap formation lap for a 2 laps race.

I'd like to see this because it was very handy in F1:CE for getting a good start when you had warmed your tyres.
However, as has been mentioned, its not really worth it for short races and races without tyre wear or other kinds of mechanical functions like engine temperatures.

Naturally it would have to be an option to turn off rather than mandatory.

Yes I used it in F1 CE:tup:

I think as far as heating tires up for the Nordschleife, the GP circuit would be used, then pull on to the Nordschleife. Otherwise, that would just be an absurdly long pace lap, what happens if you wad the car up early? I think formation laps could be cool, but not at all important. It would get old after a while, unless you could just skip it and get on with things, then just use it for the novelty once in a while.

If you don't know what this is, this is where the cars on the grid complete a lap of the track before a rolling start. If you aren't on the grid & in the pit lane, you have to join the cars in the que or you are out of the race.I know, this is strict & a computer game but do you think this would work ?.

It won't work. People will complain about sitting through it, or others will take advantage & try be funny with the AI.

It'll be hell online as well. I've only seen this work properly in organized PC sims.

Yes, all races should, not only endurances. But it won't happen because casual gamers couldn't be bothered for a parade lap.

I'm for it, but it should be optional (you know, for the antsy folk). I would do the swerving back and forth thing they do on Super GT. 👍

If it were fully controllable, meaning matching speed limit and such, it would be strict. Although, strict in a serious game like GT is fine with me.

Having a speed limiter on could work...

But again i think only for endurance races. And it should be optional for online, as some casual gamers will find it very tedious.

And what happens as they approach the main straight, would it be like F1 where they line-up back on the grid? Or would the cars have a rolling start?

If the last F1 car fails to move, they are allowed to start in the pit lane or the back of the grid.Only works if F1 cars are in GT5.
