Formula 1 2005

Ok, well thanks for the advice. I've played other racing games so I certainly know about finding the right racing line thru a bend, or a reasonably good braking spot, so I guess if I"m not doing anything else wrong, I'll just practice. One interesting point though...when I'm on a straight, and I look in the rearview mirror, even the Jordans and Minardis which are miles behind me, catch up with me and fly past. I have my pedal right down to the floor (Logitech Drving Force Pro wheel) and yet I cannot go any faster. This really annoys me, as it's a case of "well how much faster can I go on the straight with my pedal right down??!!" And this was using your suggested Set Up - which did improve my time, by the way - thanks for that.
And also at the start, when the red lights go out, I accelarate as fast as I can, yet the other 19 cars just dissapear into the distance before I've even done 30 metres! What's going on there?

The only other thing that could be wrong is your Logitech Drving Force Pro wheel, sometimes the throttle goes a bit funny, read this read:
pedal problems

I need a good F1 game for the ps2, and it must be DFP compatible. Is this game up to scratch or should I get something else?

btw, the game needs to support the same wheel rotation as in RL (i.e more than 90 degrees on either side, F1's use more than that). Sorry but since playing GT4 and RBR I refuse to play a racing game with a "fake" wheel :)

I can't believe what a difference two little black balls can make! Thank you soooo much for this link. That was definitely the problem. Yesterday I unplugged the DF Pro wheel and tried with the just the joystick/handcontroller. I knocked off 5 seconds a lap! So there had to be something wrong with the wheel. I took out the 9 screws as suggested and relocated the balls...instant success. Qualified first, knocked 6 seconds off Melbourne a lap, and 8 off Istanbul. (all on Medium level). But seeing as it was quite easy on Medium, I might just go straight to Hard now. To anyone with a Driving Force Pro wheel and you just can't get full throttle out of it...go to the link suggested by DomeJuddv10 and fix your balls !!!

A very happy Sydney man. :) :)

Good, I thought no one could be that bad to be getting whooped by Medium. :P Hope you enjoy the game much more now.

Ummm, that's pretty bad, 2.7 is my average. I can get under 2 seconds with ~15 laps of fuel.

Blake

Grrr think my best was 2.4.... avarage must be round 3.2 or somin...

Just for the record.......... I don't like fixing 'balls' although if any women are reading this I'm very happy to help with anything else!

...so having corrected my accelerator pedal, I dived straight into Hard mode on World Championship. Big mistake...finished 18th and 20th in the first 2 GP's. Back to Medium I guess.

By the way...just curious...for those of you with steering wheels and pedals of course, how do you have it set up? I constructed a small wooden cockpit I can slip into, with the pedals fixed on a slight incline, and the wheel in front of me on a ledge. I bought a cheap plastic kiddies chair from a $2 shop and padded it with foam. The missus looks at me like I'm a bid kid (aren't we all?), but hey...when you're sitting there for 90 minutes, you gotta be comfy right? And boy am I in the zone...

F1s don't have much more than 90 degree rotation ... a little but not much.

They have at least 360, as you'll notice from the onboard camera. That is quite a bit more.

Could you please tell us how good the game is with the DFP? Can you set it to use more than 180 degrees? Whats the sensitivity like? Force feedback? Cheers

I've just started a career in medium, I'm with RBR and I've already won the first two races. It's not really challenging enough but I doubt I could get a drive in Hard mode.

Hard mode isn't really hard. I' doing a Wold Championship in hard, as you know. They should of made them a bit more faster.

Yeah, I wish they made a mode where it is actually, like, difficult to win ... and impossible to do so in Minardi's :P

Blake

Ok, so I found a way to make the game more difficult. Rain! It is hard to win with rain on, it makes for a much better challenge! I did a test race today around Albert Park in a McLaren, came 8th. I could have came 7th, or MAYBE 6th, but my qualifying set me back alot, and I wasn't fast enough to get from the back to the front.

Blake

INdeed it does. I had to qualify for my last full lengh race in the rain, I could of got pole if I remembered I had to brake earlier than usual.

Do you guys have some kind of competition to compare lap times? 👍 I searhed but couln'd find anything.I think it would be fun:)

Its an online game, so its done over the network. I'd do it, but my online stuff wont work for some strange reason, so we have to try an alternitive wat.

That's why I'm asking. Some people have problems playing online,(including me)
So we are missing out:grumpy: . Everyone is saying how easy it is to beat the A.I. so it should be more fun to compare times. Maybe go for a fastest lap and post a screencap to prove it:idea:

So what's the story with Retirements? There I was in Mr Button's BAR about 30 laps into the Malaysian GP in World Champ mode (Hard Level), when the game stopped and the caption came up on the screen "Retired". Perhaps I was over just pushing the engine that bit too far before gear changing? Is there any way to find out what went wrong? Am I to assume I fried the engine and that's what caused the retirement?

It depends, usually you can go the race distance by revving the whole way, but occasioanlly you'll have a failure. If you shift earlier (say, the 1st or 2nd light) you won't have an engine failure.

...bloody hell...not again. I just fried the engine after 16 laps of Catalunya. Guess I'm going to have to alter my driving style.

Hey...anyone got any tips on qualifying? (World Champ mode - Hard). I'm doing ok in the actual races, but I can only qualify 14th,15th, 16th etc... It's obvious that the tyres are not warm enough and lack the grip during quali., compared to say just 3 laps into the race, where I'm flying! Seems stupid that my qualifying isn't as good as my racing...

Spend the first half of your warm up lap weaving left to right, it will get the front tyre temp up quickly, then just drive really hard for the 2nd half to get yur rears up to temp. I dunno, I have no rpoblem qualifying on colds though ....

Blake

Neither. I find it impossible to get lower than 1st on the grid, unless it rains. Maybe run more laps in the practice sessions.

I can win in any race in the hard level, but I still have some difficulties in lapping good time that can be competitive in the forum. And I'm not good at tuning a car, maybe that's where the problem is.
i.g. Monza. someone said they can lap with 1'19''XXX,it is a quite an amazing time.I only can make it more than 1'22''XXX,and I tried my best for sure, incidentally,I only tuned the downforce to the minimum. Is that also you guys only did in tuning?
Thanks.

Can anyone tell me how to tune a F1 car?

Depends on what track your using, monza requires low wing settings (downforce) less drag greater top speed!! You'll find a couple of tenths if the gearing is right. It needs to be geared high for fast free flowing tracks. The lower the ratio the higher the gearing. Also anti-roll bars are important , stiffer for fast corners increasing stability. springs i use 7200/9200 n/m/s all round. no less the 15mm ride height, no more then 19mm. in dry conditions your TC needs to be quite low 70/60/50/13 on a hard compound tyre, easy to use revs to get tyres to temp. brake bias i use in dry 70/55/37. camber more negative camber on front -1.0 gives more steering into tight corners from heavy braking points less on the rear -0.5.i did a 1.18.536 on monza in a toyota :sly: hope this helps
