Seems to not be raining right now, but the track is very wet.

Edit: There's a massive downpour just outside the track.
Edit 2: It has hit the track now, just as cars are exiting the pits.

Edit 3: Leclerc into the wall!

This will spice things up nicely. Very very wet now.
Leclerc hits the wall on his outlap to the grid, broken his suspension. Aquaplaned straight into the barriers.

Leclercs done.

Also probably means delayed start of whatever because we can't race in a bit of rain.

It's probably the right decision if so, these full wets are absolutely useless.

Yea I don't know why Pirelli bother making them, wen it's wet enough for them to theoretically be used, they won't race anyway.

Several cars are in the pitlane, but the pitlane has closed. I think at least both Red Bulls have to start from the pits.

Edit: I may have seen wrong and it's just Yuki

It's high time these cars have some form of traction control for racing in these conditions, like just... almost every other modern road car in the planet.

F1 cars had TC in the past, and then it got banned.
Also traction is not the main issue for racing in the rain, visibility is.

Yes, and as a result, they are right now the only 4-wheel vehicles in Miami that cannot drive in the rain.
See my edit, traction is not the main issue. Visibility is. Adding TC wouldn't make much of a difference in being able to drive in the rain.

Looking a bit brighter and clearer now.

Kimi has a big chance here. He's been great in the rain in the junior categories and the guys behind will be thinking more of safety and the proper qualifying later.

Formation lap to take place behind Safety Car

We've just received the following notice from the FIA:
"Race Control have taken the decision to start the formation lap on time behind the safety car to clear any standing water from the track."
As far as we understand, we should still get a regular standing start, but there might be an extra formation lap or two before we get that.

Also Piastri may have floor damage from Leclerc debris.

Sprint will start (or restart, they are discussing that point on Sky at the moment) at 12:28 local

Holding a race in Miami, where pop up rain storms are as common as can be b/c Florida, right as rainy season starts. Hope they manage to improve racing in the rain for this sport, b/c we're here for the next 15 years.

Yeah if the sun would pop out for about 10 minutes or so it would dry it almost completely up except for under the bridges.

The current plan is to have 2 laps behind safety car, in order to give all drivers a chance to go through T1, and then make a decision on standing vs rolling start
This is going to be a real short race with all the formation laps they have to remove from the total (so no one runs out of gas).
Much less spray, this is entirely raceable.
