I don't think the race will start behind the safety car. It's true that I haven't seen any pictures of late except the one Team Fernandes posted, but taken on its own, the rain in Korea last year (which seems to be the precedent everyone is using to judge whether the safety car will be deployed at the start) wasn't actually that bad - the problem was that because the surface was sealed so close to the actual race, the oils and chemicals used to set the tarmac had not had time to be scoured away by the elements. Had the race been run in the dry, the circuit would have had similar characteristics to any other circuit in the wet. But because it was raining in Yeongam that day, the problem was compounded.

Visibility may have been low, but they had a similar problem at Fuji in 2007. Everyone started banking up behind the safety car and complained that there was no visibility. But when Tonio Liuzzi went down a lap, he was released from the sequence and asked to compelete a lap at speed by race control. He did so, and reported that visibility was normal. The rain wasn't the problem - the fact that everyone was behind the safety car was. The same thing happened in Korea.
The the pure overtaking is on, then.
Unlikely. In the wet everyone is mroe concerned with staying on the road than passing.

Little note for everyone who lives in US (like me).... This starts the stretch where the races are on your Local Fox network at 1pm. ;) Just so you know and check your local listings. :dopey: --- Randy

You also have to consider the characteristics of the circuit in all of this. Because Montreal is prone to freezing at the heart of winter, the surface of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is quite unique. It's much less porous than other circuits, which is a deliberate move to stop water settling because when water freezes, it expands. And when it expands, it breaks up the surface of the circuit. So that the city doesn't have to keep resurfacing the circuit, the non-porous tarmac was laid down. This is one of the reasons why last year's race was so intense - the radically-different surface was not unlike driving on bedrock.

Because the water cannot seep the upper level of the tarmac, it just sits there on the surface. While there is a greater chance of puddles of standing water appearing, it also means that a dry line will appear faster than it might normally.

Indeed. I've been waiting for this moment to come. *^*

Wow, you seems to know alot about that. 👍
Anyhow, let's hope for an interesting race. ;)
Imma grind GT5 for awhile.

So Heikke just twitted saying the rain is getting heavier and heavier. Looks like we might have the safety car start to be true...

It can't be happening! :grumpy:
Ah well, sc or no, i just want them to race with no delay.

What makes you say that Alonso would have been champion? Raikonnen won that year while Alonso was third. Even if he was a match for Hamilton they still wouldve been beaten by Raikonnen. Which again is entirely subjective. You can look back at a season with as many ifs, buts and maybes as you want but facts are facts.

Because Lewis and Fernando were taking points away from each other. If you look how many points they scored, combined with how many points Raikkonen and Massa scored. If Hamilton had been the little lapdog Alonso expected, he would've won the championship.

Hollidog
And whos to say that Vettel couldnt of been an embarrassment to Red Bull? Correct me if Im wrong but was it not while he was driving the sister teams car that he crashed into the Red Bull of Mark Webber at Japan? Argue all you want but they both had privileged positions in their respective teams.

Because Vettel was already a Grand Prix winner at that point and had proven himself in F1. Hamilton hadn't. And as for the whole Fuji incident, Vettel was penalized immediately, but fan footage later found that Hamilton was to blame. He slowed down very quickly without warning under the safety car. Webber saw Hamilton so slowed down. Vettel was unsighted and hit Webber.

Quick note. Weather earlier in montreal was rain and all the forcasts i've read say rain and thunder for it for the rest of today and tommorow.

👍

Mclaren's we setup in qualifying may just pay off now.

Ron Meadows from Mecedes says that he says it's wet enough to start behind the safety car.

Vettel didn't say Webber would be a championship contender. Mark won't be happy if he finds out.

He also said he treated his tyres at Monaco better then most people treat their wife.

But it's not wet enough for me though. :p
Just saw the track condition on Star Sports.
Well, the people there knows better than me.

Standing start could be interesting. Aren't the two types of wet tyres terrible when it comes to wearing, like the full wets only last like 5 laps?

Did anyone manage to not look at the woman in the turquoise jeans' ass?

Nope.:p

This will be one hell of a race. Hopefully standing start. If it gets dry(unlikely) will DRS be allowed?

Edit:Ahhh, starts under safety car.:ouch:

Did I ever mention how much I loathe this? Everyone is sitting here talking about we/dry conditions, tyre choices, starting behind the safety car. What do I see? Randy Travis apart of the digital remasters collection, 10 discs for 5 payments of $29.99. A steal!!!

Agreed. I hate when Fox takes coverage. The entire field could have piled up on the first lap and we wouldn't have seen it because Fox had to show their sports intro. :ouch:

Not to mention the Europe venues are always delayed coverage.

Absolutely stupid. They had support races racing as normal and we can't start normally?

SC in this lap thank christ. Still robbed of a start though.
