F1 in the wet

kind of easy to see why they dont run in such bad conditions and the spray isnt actually the main reasson they had the saftey car out!

I'm not going to be one of the 'LOL VETTEL WHAT A LOSER' crew. He drove a fine race as did Jenson, the rain is a lottery and Massa or Webber could easily have won that race too in the right circumstances. Insane race to watch.

Actually there was loads of drivers that did have a chance of winning with thier strategy calls and speed. Here's a list.

Button
Vettel
Webber
Schumacher
Massa
Kobayashi
Heidfeld
Alonso

There was a stage in the race for each driver where they had a chance of taking the lead. That's 8 drivers! It makes the 5 at China seem like a boring race.:p

I don't know why everyone insist in avoid the whole "Vettel crack" as a fact, this is the first time I saw Vettel under genuine pressure, and he obviously made a mistake, not that is bad, under that kind of pressure(Button catching him at a rate of 2 secs per lap)and the race conditions is logical that he will be pushed to the limits, having human actions is not bad that he lost the focusing, but it gets to tell that Vettel is not that immune to events after all.

Everyone says that Vettel finally 'cracked'.

No, they're not. Some people are saying that.

Personally I think he was pushing the car beyond it's potential fastest lap time at that point in the race. His interview seems to back that up.

Considering the conditions; there is nothing wrong about 2nd for Vettel.

I liked how Coulthard poked fun at himself on his pronounciation ('Veh-tell') and bird watching skills 👍

Both TSN and Fox covered the whole race 👍

But I missed the end for Concours Club :dopey:

Isn't that the same thing as cracking? It's like when you're racing online with someone behind you, and brake too late going off the track.

Either way, ok, he cracked once. Who cares? Everybody seems to have forgotten now about his defense against Hamilton. I'm sure he'll learn from this mistake and come back stronger.

Vettel is great at getting away from the field at the start and building a huge lead, however as a result of that, he doesn't really have the mindset for great racecraft. That is not to say that he is a bad driver by any means. It is merely a character flaw. He can be compared to the likes of Alberto Ascari and Jim Clark in this way, and that's not something to be ashamed of.

Button on the other hand, put in a drive even Nuvolari would approve of. Never giving up, taking advantage of faster lap times and capitalizing on the mistake of a driver through these actions. It was very much like the 1935 German Grand Prix. :D

Damn. BBC's coverage is twelve times better than SPEED's. :grumpy:

And I just saw the chick's ass whom I think a few of you were talking about yesterday, and...wow.

I just wrote an entire paragraph reply that didn't go through so I am now incredibly annoyed. Anyway;

People were just looking for the 'crack' that was always going to be within every driver. I think many are too eager to justify the claims that it's the car winning the race, and that he's just been riding luck all season, as well as the ideas that he can't race against other drivers directly for track position. This so called crack that many are emphasizing seems to be justification to these claims for those seeking it. The fact of the matter is, the car is good, but that's the first real mistake he's made all season in race and it was under immense pressure. He could put it down to a mistake but he would've been cruising on that lap had it not been for button.

The kid is fast, time to admit it. Button drove a fantastic race and deserved to win, however.

What. A. Race.

Spectacular job by Jenson, undoubtedly his best ever victory, and one of the best wins i've ever seen. He saved us from seeing that extremely annoying finger, or the extremely annoying post race radio of Vettel, or the long, boring Austrian anthem. Also job well done by Schumacher, fighting his way up to 2nd, but the superior cars came and went, unfortunately. 4th is good though, and it shows that he's still got some performance up his sleeve, and completely out raced Nico today. Great job by Kobayashi as well, running 2nd for a while, doing a good job of defending against Massa, and was rather quick, Vettel didn't exactly rocket off into the lead, it was a consistent gap between them of about 4 seconds. Still, 7th is a job well done, and it looks like we might be seeing him in some better machinery for next year(watch out Vettel :trouble:)

Honrable mention to our favourite backmarkers HRT, equaling their best ever finishes of 13th and 14th, securing them a place ahead of Virgin, again. Lotus, your days are numbered :trouble:

Not alot to add other than whats been said, amazing drive from Button, truly stunning, 6 trips into the pits, last at the safety car, 2 incidents and a puncture. Still wins, amazing. amazing race.

Sepctacular job by Jenson, his best ever win, and one of the best drives to victory i've ever seen. That's a Mansell-esque drive. And he thankfully prevented us from having to see the annoying finger for the 6th time. Also what a brilliant job by Schumacher, drove his way up to 2nd, but the faster cars came along and took back their places ,and he ends 4th, still, he showed those noobs how it's done :D. Also great job by Kobayashi, sad that he couldn't get a podium, but I think we may see him in a new car next year (watch out Vettel :trouble:)

Honourable mention to HRT, equalling their best ever finish of 13th and 14th, securing a place ahead of Virgin in the WCC, yet again. Lotus, watch out :trouble:

Anyone up for a game of spot the difference?

Looks like the reiteration is a condensed, paraphrased version of the first iteration.

He saved us from seeing that extremely annoying finger

Instead we got two fingers from Button!

And it's pretty clear that Vettel "cracked." He was coasting after he got a 4 second lead to Schumacher, but when Button got past he started to push and Button was still faster.

MS was so close to podium :(

Good race. Thanks god Vettel din't win. Hamilton again touching others lol. Ferrari had the pace but failed again. Good race Button tyres were in great shape he was really fast during the end.

My old boss at the Kart circuit we used to run would say to people "If you are looking behind you are not going forwards" meaning that as soon as you let your attention rest on what is happening behind you, you impair your own speed.

When Seb had Lewis behind him at Catalunya (I think) he didn't bow to the pressure, he just maintained the gap, and crossed the line in first.

This race, he must have spent some time pre-empting the final straight, on the final lap, with some guy behind him with a huge hole in his rear wing, picking which side to pass him on. That's a scary/exciting/adrenaline inducing thing to consider.
It took less than a second of consideration of this eventuality to take his mind off the right-left-left-right he was moving into at the time, and he got raggedy into the complex; clearly visible in the BBC footage, which led his line into the second two turns slightly askew, and he ended up taking some wet surface on his right rear tyre, got off the throttle and then planted it to compensate. This was his only choice, as he stated in his post race interview, and while he was floundering, JB passed him.
If he had just concentrated even harder on getting that RedBull to the line for the 70th time, instead of what might be about to happen; we would have had an awesome race, but possibly a different result.

Personally, I loved the end to the race, so much so that I turned MW2 off to watch it.
I loved the result.
I loved the fact that Schumacher didn't get any MUMM.
I loved watching somebody push as hard as they dare to go for a win they could smell.
F1 is better this year, whatever anyone says.
The above, is MY opinion.

:irked:👍

MUMM?

Random. Random. And, Random.

(The above is my alternative to 'Caps').

Best race I've seen in a long time. The longer Vettel keeps winning, the more bored I'll become.
Has any action been taken towards Button since the race?

Nope. He's all good. 👍

He means that Schumacher failed to make it onto the podium. In non-Islaamic countries they spray champagne there. Strangely it's also illegal in France... so they just take the labels off the bottles.

The only thing is... I'm fairly sure that the F1 champagne sponsorship is held by Moet & Chandon, not Mumm...

EDIT: I stand corrected... MUMM it is :D
