My immediate thought was that one of the unlapping cars had an off while on the catch up lap. Clearly that wasn't the case it seems so, yeah, awaiting that explanation badly...

Even if the message was in error, why couldn't they continue? The track looked entirely clear with 2 laps to go.
The stupid old lapped drivers situation.

An FIA statement:

"The Safety Car period regulation, Article B5. 13.5, states that one lap must be completed following the unlapping procedure.

" This process was followed by Race Operations. The 'Safety Car In This Lap' message was displayed erroneously due to a software error."

Is that rule that one lap under SC must be run after backmarkers can unlap themselves still in effect? If so, then as disappointing a finish as it was, they did follow the regulations unlike a certain other race.

Some reliable sources on Twitter imply a bomb is about to drop.

No idea, but surely F1 related.
Thomas Maher and Will Buxton are teasing something big.
Not F1 related. It was about Scott Dixon going to Arrow McLaren, which was already all but confirmed before the weekend.

Thomas’s tweet has #f1 in it. I doubt this is what he was referring to.

EDIT: I think Thomas and Will were teasing different things.

This is likely something dodgy on the Silverstone race director computer setup after last year NOT showing the 'Safety Car In This Lap' message early and having the safety car lights turned off halfway down Hangar straight when the leaders behind the car were already building speed to catch the safety car.. thus causing a likely unsafe situation and a penalty applicable to the driver leading. Seems that stitch-up might have screwed the majority of fans year...

If it wasn't that then it's still karma on the race directors after last years dubious operations.

According to Thomas Maher, Verstappen and McLaren are in the final stages of negotiations. I find that hard to believe but stranger things have happened.

One thing about McLaren though is that it can lead to a seat in the wec, I think that would be a very attractive option for Verstappen.

That would be absolutely insane. A swap with Piastri or what?

I think Ford has already got that wrapped up for him. They've had contact with him for a couple years now, it's just scheduling according to them.

A bit late reply, but My name is on Patreon list at the end credits. :D
I'm going to join myself. I keep forgetting about it. That team that puts these things together is just brilliant. Anyone that follows F1 needs to subscribe to their channel. The running gags they have for certain drivers are hilarious. Each time I see George shown on tv outside of his car I immediately think, "bliiimey" or "holy moly".

This is absolutely hilarious. I can't remember a car being this much trash for a long time...

Closest car I think that comes close to this expensive comedy of errors is the Lola T97/30, which went no further then Australia (Probably for the better).

  • Loads of hype
  • Rediculous amounts of sponsorship Money
  • Lack of...everything.

It at least feels pretty close anyway.

It's absolutely embarrassing, I know the Honda power unit hasn't helped them but this is clearly a fundamentally bad car from top to bottom.

Not sure I've ever seen a Newey car miss this badly. The big upgrade/revision needs to basically be a new car at this point surely.
