I thought the Williams would fall back down to the midfield but Sainz drove the wheels off that thing. Lawson also had a super impressive race holding off quicker cars without DRS.

FIA and FOM will be so happy they backloaded the sprints this year. Still got 3 of the dumb things to mess up the championship.

Sooo, McLaren's poor performance as a whole this weekend has, imo, majorly re-opened the WDC fight between Oscar, Lando and Max. Statistically speaking, this would be highly unlikely, but if the next 7 races finish as Max-Lando-Oscar on the podium, then Max would win the WDC by 1 point. This ignores the Fastest Lap point, as well as any points gained from the upcoming sprints at COTA, Sao Paulo and Qatar.

Basically, another DNF, or even a poor overall weekend from either/both of the McLaren drivers could put Max within striking distance of stealing the WDC. While I highly admire Oscar's willingness to go with team orders, as he's said himself that he does need the team to back him if he's gonna win the WDC, I would throw that mentality in the trash at this point. It's pretty much his championship to lose now, especially going off of Lando's poor performance this weekend.

Lewis tried to give Charles the place back but left it a touch too late before the line.
Yeh, a little lucky or unlucky, or funny.
Tsunoda might have had the 2nd worst race after Piastri. He's not helped himself in the cursed Red Bull.
Him, Tsunoda has been in struggle town for much of the season so in that context I think he drove a pretty decent if unspectacular race. Solid error free and banked some good points. Sure could have been better, but also he could have easily gone in a wall or slipped out of DRS range end then dropped to 10.

Biggest criticism maybe that he was unable to pass Lawson and looks bad finishing behind RB car... but the RB car might be good, extreme fast in straight line, and Lawon had a superb race. Strong drive by Lawson to be mistake free, put the car in the right position and getting clean good momentum run on the straights every time.

Alpine drivers, Ferrari drivers and Albon probably had worse races... not sure about the Sauber and Haas drivers, I doubt they had better races than Tsunoda.

Did Lando actually have a worse race than Tsunoda? he finished behind, sure he had a little issue with pitstop delay, but maybe he could have made a pass on Lawson in the first stint, or maybe pulled more of a gap before the pitstop to make the position with the delay... maybe a little better race start he might have been further ahead earlier in the race.
That can be Oscars only bad weekend now, he's effectively been given a free hit with Lando failing to capitalise in P7.
Yeh, although the luck has been ebb and flow. Maybe it's not so surprising Lando didn't capitalise, so much of his gains have been on the side of luck, like the strategy in Hungary, Oscar's penalty in Silverstone etc. Both McLaren drivers made the mistake in Melbourne and ran off track there...

I'm not sure Lando can increase intensity and consistency to actually challenge for the championship if things don't continue to fall his way more often than they don't.
Sainz has become along with Prost, the only driver to have achieved a podium finish with McLaren, Ferrari and Williams.
Legendary. Such as awesome result for Sainz. Super solid drive.

It's pretty much his championship to lose now, especially going off of Lando's poor performance this weekend.
In the case of Max making more gains, it could be the point that the team need to consider consistency of performance and need to make their tough call to start prioritising the driver more likely to win the title for them.

How to choke for an entire weekend, brought to you by Mclaren. And next race the walls are close again. Let's see how Papaya rules will keep those cars out of the barriers in Singapore.

Williams is the most improved team from last year. Albon has been doing a very decent job throughout the season and now Sainz gets a podium. James Vowles and his team are doing a great job.

Historically in a sense, Lando should have much better luck in Singapore. 4th, 3rd, & 1st have been his last 3 results there compared to Baku (before today) at 9th, 9th, & 4th. I'm not surprised Oscar unfortunately went out, his weekend seemed pretty doomed from the start sadly. Singapore might also be challenging for Max who has surprisingly, never won there before.

My boy Carlos finally gets a podium for Williams. Hooray! Shame about Piastri but I'm not freaking out because Norris only gained 6 points on him. Championship material my arse.

They are desperate for that new Merc engine
