Looks like I could get 3rd place at best then :nervous: :sly:.

I'm still baffled at how I'm losing time. The first corner I fly through, right or very close the limit and I still lose little time through there compared to LewyOs. Racing lines are very similar between us both but he is edging away as he can take the corners as quick / quicker with less front end downforce which equals less drag. I was going close to flat out in most corners as well, shame you can't watch replays of laps again on the PS3 version so I could analyse better what I'm doing wrong but I was close to the limit of invalidating my lap through most of the corners due to the commitment you need. I was off my best sector times, yes, but still I had a lot of commitment.

Anyway I will post the first two sector times and comparison with LewyOs.

S1 27.26 (27.26)
S2 22.286 (49.546)

Time loss to LewyOs

S1 0.411
S2 0.453

I don't know for sure as I'm not looking at it, but I think my S1 time is quicker than Lewy's.

Again, I'm not sure. Spent a lot of time at Australia during my first season and I learned how to ride the edge of the first corner chicanes, bridging on fourth gear. I just need to get familiarized with the track again; perhaps driving my HRT would help. :p

Are we on about the first corner, if so I go through their in 6th gear usually flat after making the corner and using all of the curb. It is hard to get the balance of not cutting the track and invalidating your lap due to it. I tried a few times with LewyOs ghost and only got ahead for a short time.

Are you sure your S1 time is quicker, that will put you on course for a really top time already?

Not 100%, no. I'll have to check when I play again later on.

We should have a provisional leaderboard. I'll start one. Maybe we could have one on the front page?

1. Lewis Owen - 1:20.381 (Submitted)
2. Saidur Ali - 1:21.646 (Submitted)
3. Michael Bernhardt - 1:23.662

I'm gonna be spending some serious time tomorrow morning throwing down hot laps

had a nice session the other day to get melbourne back in my head - i think i was down in the low 21's so there's room for improvement

you guys are quick though, this should be close :)

My racing alter ego is an 11-time F1 champion, so I damn well better be fast.

Just did a 1:22.704 after adjusting my gear ratios and then I fell off of the speed wagon; it's late, what do you want from me? :p

"I" also did a short stint in WRC, coming in second overall.

What stats are you bringing to the table? :p

a multiple time BTCC champion (in toca 2) multiple WRC champion (in early Mcrae games) 1 time nascar champion (a pc game I had in the late 90's. Don't remember which one) and maybe over 100 X F1 world champion. Then again, I have been playing F1 games since Microprose Grand Prix for the Amiga in the early 90's. I think I won more than 10 championships with F1CE alone even though it's far from being the best F1 game in my collection.

Edit:

As a matter of fact, I'm revisiting GP3 right now. Wish I could get GP2 to work on my pc. Thinking of doing another championship before F1 2011 comes out.

Well I used to harbor hopes of being a racing driver. My parents were worried it was too dangerous and always had a "we'll think about it" attitude until I eventually realized it wasn't going to happen. If I actually lived near a decent karting track, they might have agreed. It was quite annoying as my father was actually quite wealthy (but was very tight fisted). I was maybe one of the select few kids that could have gotten to a reasonable level without having to rely on sponsorship.

Assuming the skill was there of course.

But when I was a kid, I had so much fun with GP2, I considered it to be "training" :sly:.

I wanted to be a professional racer myself, in fact I still do, but I don't know how to go about it; I don't live near any tracks that I'm aware of, and I don't know...something about it just weirds me out.

I'd love to be an F1 or Le Mans driver, even if I were to be completely unsuccessful.

I just checked your profile. You're a few months younger than me. Unfortunately, your only hope is something like GT academy or to be independently wealthy enough (and skilled enough) to fund your own racing career. Even "minor", club level motorsports are very expensive. F1 is out of the question now. Le Mans is pretty much out of the question too. It depends on your level of skill and budget. You'd need to have years of racing in highly regarded categories to get to Le Mans though.

A uk based GTP user does compete at club level. I think his user Id is "thecracker". He may be able to provide you with some good information.

A podium result is looking unlikely for me now. Stuart says he is in the low 21s which means he is already ahead of me. Don't know how fast the others are but you might improve by more than a second (You did say you can find those two seconds before). Did you find what your first sector time was as if it was really faster than Lewis then you only have to correct the other two sectors up. That shouldn't be hard for a 11-time F1 World Champion :sly:.

During the lap I did the 1:22, it was a 27.4-something. So there's still room for me to improve and I have just enough time to do so. :D

As you said earlier, you can learn from this and hopefully you'll be able to get more time in.

I will be happy if I can win one of the rounds, but Lewis is extremely quick in a McLaren (Like in real life ;)) and I will need top 10-20 leaderboard times to have a chance of winning it seems so far. Maybe other tracks could be different though and I have little experience in the game so I should get faster with time. Spent about 3 hours in total on this split over two days.

First sector time you are very close to me so I hope I can cling on, please don't get any faster :sly:.

We'll see what I can put down tonight - taking it to the wire here lol
How close are you to beating Lewis?

Unless I'm able to get my PC back up and running before the deadline (which I honestly doubt at this point), so the 1:22 is likely to be my final time, unfortunately. If I'm not back before the beginning of Trial 2 feel free to start without me, you all already know where it's taking place, as well as knowing there's an event every Sunday. I don't know how long this is going to take but I'm working on it.

What has happened to your PC? Typical PC gaming, should have sticked to console gaming :sly:. Just kidding.

The system itself is fine, it's the new case I have that's giving me trouble.

I'll put them up in a little bit, but out of the eight people who registered only four submitted a time.

You took P1 though.

Strange, what's so seriously wrong about the case that stops you using the system?

I can't use any of my expansion cards as they don't line up properly with the slots on the case.

Any update on the results being posted?

Did you just switch over to the new case then?

No. I've been posting from my mom's PC whenever she's not on it.

As for the results I'm doing them now while I have the chance.

Results are up. I converted an old, unimportant post into the appropriate reserved post. The OP links to it.

Rules are rules, but considering the crumby weekend I've had, for anyone that has a "DNF" next to their name (with the exception of akmuq) you can still get a time in and get full points, or half if you happen to occupy any of the top three positions. Just a kind gesture...don't expect that next week. :p
