or because fans want to race a premium VW Beetle, Nissan Leaf or the new version (and another version) of the Mini Cooper S...

Actually, most people probably do. That is what made the GT series so successful... the ability to drive normal, everyday cars to their limits. If GT was compromised entirely of supercars and race cars, it would have never sold as many copies. The 'normal' cars are an integral part of the GT series and without them, the game would lose many, many players. The same thing applies to the Forza series, the 'normal' cars are a big attraction for a lot of people.

Like them or loathe them, cars like the Beetle, Leaf and Mini are a major selling point of both Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.

I'm not saying I want only super cars or race cars but there's already a slew of Mini Coopers in the game, the last DLC gave us another one and this supposed list gives you yet another one. And seriously, I'm a huge VW/Audi nut but I do not want to race an old air cooled beetle, especially when there's already one in the game in standard form!
Where's the E30 M3?! They even mention this car in the museum and is one of the most iconic cars in motorsports and gear heads! mk4 supra in premium form?!??

Cars like the Beetle have no motorsports pedigree, neither does the Leaf. I get it that folks want to drive 'normal' cars as well but if given the option I'm not going to pick an air cooled Beetle that has less than 50hp. Mind you, as a big VW/Audi nut... VWs (and Audis) in premium form is a sad list. Kubelwagen, Schwimwagen, this new air cooled old Beetle... the mk1 Rabbit GTI is a standard and you can't even put the most iconic wheel on it, the BBS RS (which sadly is a wheel option for a Ford Mustang!?!!!??!!). We get 2 new good ones via DLC, the 'rocco and Golf R so at least that's good.

I must say i drove a tuned Nissan leaf t'other day from my clubs shared garage and...... i quite enjoyed the clever wind rush sounds......but i'd have to say, Beetle yes, Mini yes....but no way is the chance to drive a Nissan leaf a "major selling point" to GT or Forza.......in my opinion.

BTW in this discussion about tracks in GT5 and FM4....Shift 2 SMASHES them both out of the park by a MASSIVE margin.....

What i'd give to have Shift 2s track selection in Forza....hmmmm i can only dream...

I think both games are great.

I started driving on the PS3 playing NFS Carbon with a 6axis but was really converted to more realistic driving games when I tried Prologue. I bought a DFGT wheel and drove with it. I purchased GT5 shortly after it came out and moved to a G27 wheel and a Playseat. I was blown away with the realism.

Just before Christmas I bought a Fanatec CSR-E wheel, an XBox360 and Forza4 so I could play both GT5 and Forza because I enjoy GT5 so much and I was looking for more content because I have done just about everything there is to do in GT5. This is not a complaint about GT5 as it has given me a year of pleasure and I play each sesaonal update as soon as they appear.

I really don't understand the need to run either game down. They both are really great driving games. Certainly each has advantages over the other but I am really happy to have both. I think it is great to have two large companies, Sony and Microsoft, competiting with each other to produce the best console driving game. As a customer of both it makes me a winner.

Just a thought: Do people consider cars like the Schwimmwagen or the Kübelwagen to be 'normal' cars? I know that I haven't seen some 60 year old VWs on the road, recently. Neither do you see many Leafs on the road, and I've probably seen more M3s than old Beetles.

Just noticed GT5's upcoming DLC car pack and I must say it's about time they put out a decent group of cars.

However the main point I agree with is what people want in DLC, its an insanely personal thing, as an example I want the Mazda AZ-1 Autozam in FM4 (and was pleased to see it as a premium in GT5 - more so than any other car), and yes that comment is 100% serious.

I love the little thing and am more than aware that this is a little weird, and certainly would not be high on many people's list of DLC for Forza, yet if it appears I will be as happy as I was when we got the Escort.

Scaff

Cheers Scaff

See, that's one area FM4 falls down for me - Kei cars. Sure, some people don't like them, but considering we have city hatches with barely more horsepower and significantly less sporting intentions, a Cappuccino, AZ-1, or Beat wouldn't hurt, in my opinion. Actually, I found a design in the store front the other day for a Miata I believe that turned it into a Cappuccino! I think a search for EA21R would find it, but anywho - the point stands that the sporty Keis, like those triplets I mentioned, are arguably deserving of a place in FM4. Especially considering the amount of modification freedom they'd enjoy...

lol

Sorry but that made me laugh. Because the fans want to pay for paint chips and race suits/helmets from the 1st DLC... or race mods of existing cars in the game that should have been free... or because fans want to race a premium VW Beetle, Nissan Leaf or the new version (and another version) of the Mini Cooper S... The Aston is welcome, as is the Aventador.. and I'll take the Jag LM racer even though it's a standard and I'm paying for it to be a premium. And before you say PD sold over a mil downloads... you can put the GT logo on a pile of horse dung and the extreme fans of the series will still buy it.

Tracks are always welcome for me in any racing game. Always welcome.

I want to race the Beetle (though admittedly, I'd love to have it in FM4, because of the amount of tuning possibilities), and while it's easy to hate on hybrids in racing games, one of the first Seasonals in GT5 required the Prius, and lightly modded, it's actually a pretty decent track car. A bit too heavy, but has a good slug of torque and isn't over-rubbered, which is a problem on most cars. The Leaf will be a similar bit of fun, especially if we can fit it with a proper gearbox. Countryman? Provided it's the All-4 model, it will be fairly different from the other Minis, and will provide a good base to re-create the new WRC Mini (something we can't really do in FM4).

Cars like the Beetle have no motorsports pedigree, neither does the Leaf.

Actually, both of them have more than that most common "make it Premium" mention - the Veyron. The Beetle a whole bucketload more.

Welcome to the 'Planet, RReed :)

The unfortunate truth is that your opinion is not a very popular one, or shared by all too many of the vocal people that make up communities for either game. I'm of a similar opinion - having one or the other means I'd be missing out on things from either game, so I really am happy I've got both games. But considering that GT1 is what got me started on sims to begin with, I do tend to be more critical of PD and GT, for the simple reason that I remember when they had no console competition, when they were the de facto standard, and now, it's not so clear-cut.

But, competition breeds excellence, and in the end, we the consumers win :)

I went on GT Planet and I Saw that they had new DLC I was like "Ok that looks nice" then I scroll down to see the comments and I nearly vomited in class. I hate using the word "Fanboy" but 70% of the people that play Gran Turismo 5 and just Kaz or GT5 extremist. It's just so plain annoying going on that site now.

"Take that Forza"

”Eat my exhaust fumes Forza!!!!”

"I say go play Forza and stay the hell off GT Planet"

"I’m sure there are numerous Forza fans that drop in from time to time to dust some crops, try to get you excited. Don’t take the bait."

"Elbow of the top ropes to Forza, 14 months on and STILL THE DADDY!!!! Ask me again why I own a PS3 and not a crapbox??? GT5, THE ALWAYS EVOLVING SIMULATOR …."

I could go on and on with these quotes but back to the real thing I was talking about. The DLC seems just too linear to the DLC that Forza is getting. Coincidence ? ALTHOUGH the DLC is looking great for Polyphony. That is one thing that I was hoping for them to step up. The benchmark track looks great.

And I honestly think that's part of the problem with the GT series in general. So many of its fans are willing to take what's given with absolutely no reservations, it's like they're sheep following the "great leader" right off a cliff.
Now, obviously, I don't think that GT5 has gone over that cliff, but I think that if things continue as they are the GT series in general will. Look at how most GT fans react to people mentioning problems with the game: "Go play Flopza" or "At least they're in there (standard cars)" or "Why are you so ungrateful?"---> That's my personal favorite; ungrateful. How dare we expect a game that's up to current generational standards for all its content? We should be grateful that we paid $60+ for half a game, and that PD by the goodness of their hearts have given us half-finished cockpits and lackluster DLC to buy. Grateful?
Where is the cutting edge in that community to push the game forward? Where is the drive to fix the problems going to come from? Certainly not from these people, who buy paint chips for real money and tell people who criticize problems to 🤬 off.

Honestly, PD lock-stepping T10 on DLC would not be a particularly poor business strategy
I applaud PD for getting Spa, I truly wish it was in FM4, but their car DLC seems so... slipshod? The first DLC was a bad joke, 10 RM cars that are already in the game, and some paint chips (1 use only) and racing suits? The second DLC was 4 cars that no one really wanted. This 3rd DLC seems to be getting better, but one has to ask: Should it really take 3 tries for a world-class dev to get DLC that people actually really want?

Good news with the new DLC for GT5 but I do wonder if they will actually record the engine sound for the lamborgini. Its an amazing noise and its better late than never than to start implementing realistic engine noises at least to the new cars anyway. As for the new route x, good but I would have prefered a new track like bathurst than a test course.

👍👍👍

I wish I could say the same ;)

The comments on the news section of GTPlanet usually really are terrible, I read them for a laugh.
And also artboy76, I agree about S2U's track selection is superior to both, I just wish I could've gotten into it more. We need a track selection like V8 Supercar/TOCA race driver 3's. From memory that was fantastic.
I don't really care that much if they are laser scanned or 100% accurate (don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing) but I find much more enjoyment out of many tracks, over many cars

I know, it's sad. Shame there are these fanatics. To me, these quotes sound very desperate. I mean, they get the Aston V12 Vantage and the Aventador and they are screaming with glee and foaming at the mouth, as if Forza's community lacks something that they finally have. Yet, the Aventador, Vantage and Leaf are all in FM4, as is a test track.

👍

It is quite a sad phenomenon.

PD put the final nail in the coffin for me with the 2.02 update.

Having gone back a couple days ago to try it out, I found they changed the driving camera to pitch and roll.
Its very unrealistic and annoying to me.

I can't imagine whose brainstorm this was, but after a few laps at one of the seasonals, I was so seasick I had to quit.

Apparently, there is no way to change it.

Just another example of the problems with GT5.

There is one thread with a lot of complaints, and a move to have it changed.

You mean like this :

"It’s already better than the GT Academy for GT5, lol.

Only 7 comments in the king of the hill news item, and 1 of em is too beat down gt5 :S
I think its sad from both camps.
Why do people always want to defend what they like.
You like gt5 great, you like fm4 great.
I don't care if someone likes or hates either one.
But making a topic about it, is the saddest thing ever.
It always becomes a battle between 2 camps.

I play both games, play gt since gt3, and fm since fm1.
Have every special edition from fm series.
But i feel let down with fm4. Do i want to go out and shout fm4 is bad and gt5 is only way to go..... nope.
I couldnt care less if someone else things the opposite of me.

Just pick a game, and let it be.
If anybody really thinks something good can come from a topic like this, you should get out more!!!

But probably im all alone in this way of thinking.
But i dont care, i made my point :)

For the record, i wasnt pointing fingers to anyone!!!
I just made a point because someone was on a rant about gtplanet dudes and gt5 fanboys, but 2 play this game, forzaplanet users and fm4 fanboys do it just the same !!
And thats why i think a fm vs gt topic is just fishbait for them fanboysharks !! ;)

I would never get my hopes up for PD recording engine sounds correctly.

And also artboy76, I agree about S2U's track selection is superior to both, I just wish I could've gotten into it more.
I actually just picked up S2U a couple days ago, and I agree, the track selection is amazing! You can also run anything at dusk or night, which is a big plus; the headlight effects truly make the experience worthwhile. And while FM4 has detailed cars on bland tracks, S2U has bland cars on detailed tracks. The environmental lighting (cloud shadows!) and textures are great -- though track accuracy is somewhat lacking.

I must say S2U is underrated, and it's all because of how incredibly HORRIBLE the driving is "out of the box." You have to go out of your way to tweak the controls (sensitivity, deadzone) just to make the game playable...but then it's actually rather good! I can't recall any other game that benefits so dramatically from a trip to the options menu. :boggled: Definitely a shot in the foot for Slightly Mad Studios. It's no wonder their next project isn't Shift 3.

-----------------------------------

So let's see. I've got FM4 for physics, cars, and tuning/customization, S2U for racetracks and time-of-day, PGR4 for weather and street courses, and FUEL for "random" roads and rally/offroading. Not to mention the PS2 games I still go to for other combinations.

That's one thing about GT5: it does everything half-assed, but at least it offers a bit of everything. Including all of the above.

Im not going to search but i think i can find plenty ;)
I'm just saying both camps act like children, and only because of opinions.
Gt5 is great game, fm4 is a great game, think otherwise? Good for you :)
No need to argue right? Why do people always feel the need to enlighten their opinion, only because someone doesn't agree ?

You guys think fm4 fans and forzaplanet users are saints?
And gtplanet and gt5 fans are the devil right?

I never said that all FM fans are saints. FM.net proves otherwise. Just saying ForzaPlanet is not as bad as GTPlanet as far as just bashing with no apparent reasoning behind it. True we have a much smaller community but even based on percentage of negative comments per site member in the news section of both sites (which is the main place you would see pointless bashing comments with no reasoning behind it) ForzaPlanet has FAR less bashing going on than GTPlanet.

I totally agree S2 is great game and very underated with the best track list on consoles to date.

But considering how 1/2 assed GT5 did all those things, I would rather play Dirt for rally, S2 for night racing, PGR for weather, F1 2011 for F1, NASCAR '11 for NASCAR. Why? Because they did it sooo much better. It feels tacked on in GT5.

Are you trying to take this off topic? We are discussing the games, not the people. Seriously...what are you trying to accomplish?

Well i observed this site a long time before i started posting here, and thats not how i saw it.
Enough of obvious trolling/bashing around here.
But okay thats your opinion and this is mine, no need to argue about it right :)
Im enjoying, myself a couple games of tag atm, before that i finished the new seasonals in gt5, and thats what more people should do, just chill, and stop wasting time about silly discusions like this topic. But thats just my opinion.

Thats what happens when you end up doing what a company like EA want rather than you want. Check out Project CARS to see what shift should have been.
