Am I the only one turned off by another empty big city portrayal as usual, like dude give it some crowds it's Tokyo not some small town in the middle of Mojave Desert.
You got to love those barely populated Tokyo streets lol. I'm sure it's for gameplay purposes but to portrayed one of the most populated cities on earth with barely any human's presence other than in designated areas is just too jarring for me to accept. Why nobody cared to put some life in open world racing games anymore lol, it's either people always mindlessly partying out of town in a big EDM party or some race routes dressed as cities that have a population of 256 and they only happened to kind of existed there on the route that you drive along. The last game I saw that did actually make the city looks alive was Midnight Club: Los Angeles and it's an 18-year-old game. They have next to zero excuse nowadays. I bet all the fences and streetlights; electricity poles, barriers and smaller trees are made of out of confetti as the last game.
This somehow looks far less alive than Driveclub despite all the advancements over that game and is 12 years newer.

While your criticism absolutely has merit, it isn't as simple as flipping a switch or placing more NPC assets in the game world. Unfortunately.

It's far more likely to be a hardware limitation than for gameplay purposes. Consider this: the more NPC assets with varying degrees of animation there are, the more CPU cycles are being used; more CPU cycles generally (in this case) means the game is less performant, whether that be in the form of raw fps, frame pacing, etc. Now of course with things like culling and VRS (variable rate shading) world NPCs could have varying degrees of LoD (Level of Detail) the further(or closer you are to them and completely removed once you're a certain distance away, but that also wouldn't be free.

Look at games like Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon's Dogma 2 for prime albeit unoptimized examples of what happens in densely packed locations; the game becomes extremely CPU-dependent/starved and performance suffers.

The last game I saw that did actually make the city looks alive was Midnight Club: Los Angeles and it's an 18-year-old game.
The Crew does this as well and both games appear to have the same thing in common: the AI all react with 'pack mentality'. As in, if you close in on one, all x amount of NPC characters in that immediate vicinity will react the same. It's not impossible and I'm certainly not the person to say one way or the other as I'm not a programmer (just a nerd ), but what worked 18 years ago wouldn't work now.

Probably a combination of performance and realising that 99.9% of players simply don't care how crowded the city is. I'm one of them, I'm here to drive the cars, not watch the crowds.

I'm really excited for the game in general. The world looks fantastic with plenty of little details in the buildings and the scenery which will make for good photos, time attack looks fun, and the touge battles have my interest. I'm also interested to see how they handle progression since it's one of the things I've found frustrating in the recent titles - I don't want to have the high end cars at the very start of the game. I might even get the deluxe edition for this one.

They should learn from PG on how to make a properly functioning game.

So I looked at the first batch of cars confirmed for Horizon 6 and saw this:

Frankly I didn't expect to see that name pop up in a car list before, let alone a open world driving game mainly focused on road cars, what's even crazier is that Alfa never even turned a wheel in anger before in ANY track at all! (supposedly so, unless there's lost media footage of it being tested around a track we never heard of before, unlike the 164 ProCar which shares the same engine) It'll actually be part of the Italian Passion DLC carpack interestingly.

In 2021 I visited Alfa's museum in Arese, Lombardia (which was actually the 5th time I visited it believe it or not, during my multiple trips in Milan before my dad passed out in 2022) and had access to their warehouse archive upstairs full of additional cars they don't have space in the main museum and lots of materials about their cars, magazine articles and promotional material. It's there where I saw the unraced beast in person alongside its engine too, so I knew I had to take a ****-load of pics of it, mainly because I was confident that one day I would've found a modeler to give them all and have it modeled in 3D for a potential Assetto Corsa mod and there was actually someone here called @Zen_tm who was acutally working on that car for AC, sadly it seems since then that no other news about it was shared (nor his presence online either...). But knowing now that PG (seemingly) went to that museum to scan the car in person and model it in house, I'm curious to see how much they ****ed it up in terms of accuracy once it gets unveiled in 3D, knowing both T10 and PG for years as I played a few of their Forza titles during my childhood.

So Someone on reddit spotted this in the FH6 reveal yesterday. so I think maybe possibly fingers crossed we may be getting bikes ;) PGR Vibes...

I don't know, virtual Japan is surely tempting, but the gameplay seems too crazy and arcade-y for me. It seems like the developers are too focused on biggest map, biggest roster of cars, customization of everything - and not the feel of the thing. Maybe they should add a bit of japanese thoughtfullness and subtlety?

On the other hand, with the game so generous with everything, I can see it competing with GTAVI, which can't be said of many games.

I’m not into FH but my kids are and I’m a little pumped for them. That said, my initial excitement to see the GR GT out front gave way to mild concern.. I hope that doesn’t somehow translate into a big delay in it coming to GT or AC 😬 it’s my crush

I have bad news. It's usually an exclusivity agreement of 1-2 years, if the Senna, Centenario and the AMG One are anything to go by.

I honestly think it looks really good - I'm hopeful the garage customization thing is truly in-depth and not just changing a backdrop or something to that effect. Literally just copy everything about PGR3 when it comes to garages and add placeable items and I'll be happy. And hopefully the microtransactions are kept to a relative minimum.

I am a little concerned about the roads possibly feeling too wide open and high-speed. I always go for the slow, weird cars and it was just so boring driving them in FH5 because every road was designed for insane 300-mph runs with minimal turns.

So glad theyve taken a few years to make this one. Much more exciting than FH5. Fingers crossed i don't get bored after a week again…

They've said in the past to never expect it. The engine is not made to support bikes. You can't apply Forza's car physics to a bike. It isn't happening.

There aren't many things a developer will say they'll never do if it's a popular player requested feature. Maybe "not at this time". If they're saying it's never happening, it's never happening.

People do this every Horizon game. A bike is seen somewhere in a trailer, people speculate bikes will be something you can drive in-game, and then it isn't, because it was just part of a Showcase or the scenery.

With the pace Polyphony are working on new cars, it would be around a year until GR GT arrives anyway. And don't get me wrong, I like the fact they take their time and then, the model is perfect with thoroughly replicated physics. On the other hand, car models in FH seem more like swiftly produced skins, so it is not a problem for them to make everything very fast (I doubt Playground had much access to actual GR GT yet).

Maybe this is one of the problems I have with games like FH - the giant network of wide, fast roads, which is just not engaging for me to drive around. Really, the japanese landscape is attractive, but I can see myself driving through the fast roads and feeling a bit like doing chores..

In the gameplay videos on YT,some of the cars dont show certain assists on the speedo unlike in previous games where they were all shown, even if not turned on.For example, the older Civic type R only shows abs,no tcr or other assists.I hope they arent going down the route of `..if its not on the real car its not on the in game car either..`Maybe they only show up on the speedo if the relevant assists are enabled in the settings? Looking forward to May. 👍

Pretty sure the old games also don't show assists if they're not enabled.

@nukleabomb A little while since i played FH5. :) I watched back some of the in game footage and noticed the GTR Nismo and Ferrari 488 Pista both dont show as having tcr enabled, but in real life both cars have traction control do ypu are probably right.👍

This is why I think the first Horizon is quietly the best in the series. There was just like one highway for high-speed runs and the rest of the map was tight, technical, fun roads.

That Alfa is utterly gorgeous 😍. Never heard of it before.

I have to say i like the realistic car models in Gran Turismo. But for me, Horizon is unrealistic enough that they could as well stick to non licensed fantasy cars. They would save a lot of money and i don't really care what i use in that game. I know, it will probably be only me.

Unrealistic as it is,the game caters for everybody on all skill levels.I think that is the draw for a lot of people, plus it looks and runs great on consoles.👍

What would this game have going for it over other games if it didn't have a large roster of licensed vehicles? If there were fantasy vehicles only, why not save even more money and don't bother making the map accurate to the real location?

If they changed the cars to karts and replaced the drivatar opposition with popular videogame characters firing shells at each other they might have a massive seller on their hands... oh wait, they already do.

Good point. I also don't need a real location. :D

For me the strong point is acceptable physics, unlike other arcade racing games.

That's a wild thing to say when almost all cars are pretty comparable during gameplay.
Even for the old 20-30 X360 models, most people don't notice the flaws unless specifically pointed out. (which doesn't mean that PGG/T10 can keep using them).

Plus the whole fun of Horizon is being a sandbox for real cars in believable arcade physics engine.

The funny part is that GT7 has a lot of licensed Fantasy cars anyway in VGTs, with a lot of fictional Gr.3 cars too.

Especially as all modern cars are basically built in game using either manufacturer provided models or laser scanned data. So the basic model shapes are going to be identical for anything provided by a manufacturer and differ when laser scanning mostly based on the source vehicle used to model.

We all know that (other than 20-30 aged models which are mostly being refreshed either in FM2023 or FH6) it's not the main shape which differs, it's tiny little details. We also all know that Gran Turismo resolution (in photo mode) is higher and there are more details modelled and visible in photo mode shots. But many discussions have already proven that in game GT and Forza models are extremely similar, it's just that GT lowers their model detail more when in gameplay versus photo mode.

So, unless you want to cherry pick 4-5 old models still left in Forza, you can definitely say that GT offers more tiny detail, but not that models are inaccurate in one game or the other. That's not fair.
