Cars… everyone loves cars. But where is the immersion? No people on the streets, no real life and Japan should feel alive. Confusing things you can do in your garage. Trees, dinosaurs that cost points… I have so many questions.

Why can’t they make this feel more grown-up? I let go of it weeks ago, but… this is just sad.

There are people behind the barriers, especially at the festival and around Tokyo. There are deer too. Ran into a gathering (?) of them on one of the offroad trails. The ambient sounds are mesmerizing however the default audio balancing completely steps on the great car sounds.

Surprisingly, the server system seems to be working well as I keep seeing 6+ players around me almost always. Makes the game feel far more alive.

Trust me, adding wacky things to the garage has it's benefits. Besides there are quite a few grounded designs too.

It is not adult enough because it is not trying to be, though a little more banter in the dialogues would be nice.

Had a very quick go this morning, my modestly powered laptop (RTX 3050 6gb, 32gb ram, underpowered CPU) ran it on high with DLSS balanced at a comfortable 60fps, my monitor is 2560x1080 so it isn't particularly taxing resolution wise. It looked very nice at high, tried ultra which is what I could run FH4 and 5 at on my system and it dropped to around 30-40fps.

But it runs well and I'm excited to dive in deeper.

Anyone else having freezing issues when downloading from Microsoft store?
somehow its now working, just painfully slow...

I truly like the gameplay. I haven't been through much as of 5 hours and a half but I'm loving the humble starts. I hope we get to meet some previous Forza Horizon characters later on!

Got a few hours in last night. I am absolutely blown away, and very much looking forward to a long time with this one.

My thoughts:

Pros:
  • Handling took a bit of getting used to, but much improved and a nice mix between motorsport and horizon
  • Few fan favourite cars are good to see again
  • Loving the menu refresh
  • For the first time in a long time, this feels like a NEW Horizon game, rather than a big expansion with a new map
  • Love the garage feature, will definitely be sinking time into that
  • It's probably AI Driven, but I love that for the first time the in-game voiceover had "Tomo" as an option
  • Sounds are incredible
  • Holy crap the wheel selection. And finally able to see all of them in one go rather than split between categories - although you can do that too! Plus of course, choosing front and rear and painting front and rear is cool. Customisable profile for all cars would be nice though.
  • "Manufacturer Paints" as an option is nice for newcomers.
  • Nice to see auction house etc return, not nice to see I can't sell a lot of the cars they gave me for free straight to the game without using said auction house.
  • Spotting cars around the map to buy is cool. Gives you a little description of what's been done to it too which I really like. Genuinely feels like you've spotted a car with a for sale sign on it in real life.
  • You can unlock stickers for the livery editor which is a nice touch.
  • Time attack is super addictive. Very fluid as well.
  • SPLIT TIMES!
  • Silky smooth on a Series X on Performance mode. Down the line it'll be a steam deck purchase once some reviews are in.
  • The soundtrack is actually very good. For the first time in a Horizon game, I've left it... on!
  • There's something about convertible mode in the settings. Someone will be happy.
  • Horizon feels like a festival again. This game gives me Horizon 1 vibes. Announcers and crowd noises are a very welcome addition, feels like proper events now.
Mehs:
  • Very quickly the map is overwhelmingly full of stuff, but that's standard Horizon so meh
  • I think the estate editor is a bit clunky - a path editor would be nice to design a track and then decorate it rather than placing down individual tiles awkwardly, but maybe that's just me.
  • Mascots are very cool, but I hope they respawn after hitting just for looks - I haven't went to check yet
  • Would be nice to choose which cameras can have drift cam. I'd like it on the chase cam but not the interior.
Cons:
  • Would be nice if the garage editor had some basic templates to work from. I know, you can just install someone elses - not the point.
  • No massive improvements to photomode
  • livery editor has finally had some refreshing, but the old foundations are still there.
  • metallic paints always seem to default to washed out as the highlights are set to full white by default
  • still no beards or many normal glasses for avatars. Minor I know.
  • can't edit garages you've downloaded. I get this, same as liveries - however would be good to choose to "lock" it or not when you upload it.
  • no XJS... yet
  • preview would be nice for downloading someone's garage, rather than committing to spend right away.
  • I think it's maybe a lot going on for people new to the series. My fiancee who's a gamer but not a racing gamer is going to be playing it, so I'm gonna get her reaction for that one.
  • They took out the hotline bling emote. I've used that ever since they brought it in. Sad react. At least we still have my ever faithful Windows XP horn.
  • Kinda poor AA on some things (you can see on the Edamame mascot) but this could be a performance mode thing
  • There's a delay or stutter in the menus in the garage. Garage is empty so it's not that. Definitely isn't as quick as say Horizon 5. Let's put it down to day 1 servers.

The biggest con for me... While I think the script is far less cringey than it has been before, when Mei talks...

The gaps are just too long.

Been enjoying collecting pics with different mascots. First car I bought was the 155. Been enjoying driving it around.

Anyway. That's my hot take after about 4 hours of gameplay. Can't wait for many, many more hours.

On pc, in photomode does anyone else notice the car staying a bit blurry when adding even a bit of aperture? Manually focusing on the car of course.

EDIT: Just found out all the details to import the vinyl groups from FH5...forgot to share them first. Ouch.

I disagree, I think it's very valid to criticise aspects of a game even if you have come to expect them from the previous entries in the series.

This is not written for Forza Horizon enthusiasts (who are gonna buy anyway) but a broader audience.

Just brushing all things that could be improved aside with "but that's just Horizon/CoD/2k for you" is poor journalism. There's some very valid points in there regarding progression that have irked me in every Horizon since at least 3.
My main gripe is the rating. They gave FH3 a 9.5, FH4 a 9.5, & FH5 a 10. I'm sorry, but this is clearly a reviewer unfamiliar with the series to suddenly drop to a 7 b/c the game still carries the same working formula as previous titles, still has the same foundation issues as the others, & yet, improves over its predecessors as FH4 & FH5 did. This game did not suddenly walk backwards from FH3 & I consider that to be the best I've enjoyed personally up until now.

From my view over 5 hours, it's an incredibly strong improvement. The map is breathtakingly gorgeous, gigantic, & diverse just driving the main highway around it whilst still having the whole north region untouched. Tokyo really is the first proper city. The game still looks amazing in Performance mode where some of the smaller details & pop-ins really show where its making cuts to stay at 60FPS. And the sounds might just be the best revision & that they change based on the surrounding environment; the exhaust noise changing in tight alleys & 2-lane streets is nice attention to detail. The cars aren't spitting fire all the time (the visual has even been revised & looks much nicer) & the exhausts are crackling off throttle for once. And the only "gripe" I've had in these 5 hours is a gripe I've had over Horizon & Motorsport games, a bug that clearly sits within' the editor; any car with graphics/stripes/etc. suddenly loses them when you add a vinyl.

The only thing I see irking me as I play is the car list, but I think it's clear cars will return over time & are being re-worked/re-recorded to keep consistency. Other than that, this is a solid overall delivery from PG so far.

Other than that..... Is the gallery not live yet on Forza.net for me to see my photos off the console?

It’s a very long-winded process but I can see the benefits of it.

I have a bunch of outdated logos that I didn’t want in this game so I had to unshare/delete them in 5 before porting.

That's entirely fair, I didn't know the context of that site's previous reviews. And tbh I glanced over the rating itself - the text sounds a lot more positive than 7/10!

Same here regarding the car list, as someone waiting for PS5 release (and with limited gaming time in general) I really hope the promised backstage pass alternative works out nicely. Even if it's just the ability to do any playlist challenge retroactively.

So they reduced one FOMO and added another FOMO?
What FOMO has been reduced? I cannot see anything reduced?

According to the article you still have 2 cars rotating each week plus 2 over the season, as before. They do seem to suggest they have increased the ways of earning points, I think, but you still have to earn them each week.

They just seem to have added more FOMO in the "Series History" rewards - this reads to me as cars you will unlock when you reach a certain number of points e.g.100, 200, 1000 etc. Having said that, they should unlock naturally as you play the game, at some point, assuming you play for a reasonable period of time, and will be earnable even if you miss a week or month. I'm less bothered about that as i expect to play the game enough to unlock those.

It's just the weekly FOMO **** I am sick of.
By the end of FH6, there will have been TEN years of weekly FOMO in FH4,5,6.

Also, and this is the elephant in the room.
Are they going to repeat these series when PS5 launch?

I see no alternative other than repeating sseries somehow (something like the Main Stage Legacy in The Crew Motorfest would be good) or bringing those cars back on PS5 launch via Backstage Passes.

Having said that, they know this would be an issue as, unlike FH5, they know a PS5 release is coming so, to be fair to PG, I do think they will deal with this in a sensible way.

My real hope is that the weekly/monthly stuff is just a timed exclusive this time, throughout the life of the game.

EDIT - This all reads like I am hating on the game before I even play it. I'm not, I've no doubt it's going to be a superb game and I am going to have lots of fun playing it. It's just the FOMO aspect of games generally that I hate. Especially when it's weekly FOMO. FM23 was at least monthly FOMO instead.

There are people on the streets, they are behind barriers. The game is rated E, they likely can't even have an implied implication of you running over pedestrians. First time I've heard someone complain about the option to customize your garage.

Jeep Gladiator is now a Jeep JT, Gladiator has been censored it seems?
It’s likely a marketing decision by Jeep. The same way the Toyota Land Cruiser is called FJ40 instead of Land Cruiser in the game.

Whoever said there were no clothes on regular wheelspins was wrong,I just "won" a frickin' chicken suit..
Well I hope you’re wearing it.

Does anyone know if there's an easier way to find out which music track is playing without cycling through all the radio stations until the popup displays on your screen?
