So in other words you are against options that open up games to a larger audience and still have all the hardcore elements underneath for those that want it, all your complaints are things you actually never ever have to see or use and one is a totally different game. Also to clear things up for you there is a big difference between Motorsport and Horizon.

I love options! It's the trying to appeal to everyone is where I have a problem. Forza's vision is/was 'sim' racing/driving, and when you start to cut it in pieces and add all these casual elements just to fit in..the vision gets diluted and weak.

It's confirmed, that they tweaked the physics so the cars are more "action oriented, more lively". That's not cool. The integrity of the cars is important in this series, and they should handle as they do in the real world.

I'm beginning to think, with the dj music fest, generous point system, lack of damage and "tweaked" physics this game is to rival NFS, and NFS doesn't last long in my system:rolleyes:

I think you're on crack lol. FM3 to FM4 was a huge jump physics wise.

In FM3 I remember going around the track with massive amounts of grip. I would have to purposely loose traction if I wanted to slip.

I'm not saying FM4 is perfect; but it is a huge step above previous titles.

So because there is less grip, it's a huge jump? The cars behave exactly the same way under the limit and over the limit. It's just that the limit has been moved around a little. Still feels like driving in a cartoon to me.

It feels like driving a real car to me. They roughly behave how I would expect them to based off what track and street driving experience I have in high powered cars. Like I said, it's not perfect but to say the physics haven't changed since FM1 is a little far off the mark. What do you mean they behave identically over/under the limit? In comparison to previous titles?

Now, I have no experience with the auto-industry in any form. But, when individuals, such as Scaff, say T10 is doing many things right I believe their insight because they have much, much more experience than I do.

Can someone PLEASE tell me why everyone is absurdly butthurt over the whole points thing.

Lighten up, jesus christ. Is a point's system REALLY that bad? Some of you are acting like PG slaughtered your family and shot your dog.

Forza's vision was, from the very beginning, to bring car lovers to play video games and video gamers to love cars. That is what T10 and Dan are always stating, at the very least, and I would assume that they do know fairly well what their vision of the game is.

Appealing to a large audience would probably be considered crucial to achieve such a feat, I'd think. So, I fail to see where it is diluting its original vision - and that is ignoring the fact that, despite the addition of casual features, the "simyness" hasn't been reduced one bit, has it? In fact, I'd say that FM has been going in the right direction over the cause of its four iterations so far.

To each their own, as always. I wonder, though, what other console racer offers better physics? I wouldn't be able to name a single one that was released recently - you'dd probably have to go back to something like race pro, but I lack the hands-on experience to claim whether that surpasses Forza or vice versa.

Personally, I get the feeling that this isn't about the points system itself. It's about that there's new stuff and some folks just don't feel comfortable with something that takes them out of their comfort zone.

I think he's trying to argue that FM4 has become more arcadey than previous games. While, to me, it does feel somewhat arcadey, it feels no different than the previous three games. I don't think the physics engine has undergone any significant changes since FM1. The handling feels largely the same across the board.

You must be using a controller or assists. The physics was a pretty good and welcomed change from FM3 to FM4.

I havent been on here in quite a while. Have they confirmed weather yet in Forza Horizon? Since F4 does not have weather, Forza Horizon must have it for sure. No excuse at all to not have weather in this game. Hopefully the weather effects from PGR4. Those were really good. Also nice to see we have a Horizon sub forum.

Ugh, this post NAUSEATES me. You're just another "hardcore" gamer who despises that video games are no longer for a niche group of people.

I'm not always a fan of casual things, but times change.

They haven't confirmed or denied a weather system, so we still have to wait and see. Hopefully it'll make it to the game.

@Chagen: From your two nauseating posts I've read on this page, you put too much emotion into criticizing other users instead of discussing the ongoing topic with a proper rebuttal.

I'm pretty sure SA is right in that Forza's vision WAS "simulation physics and customization" (E3 2004) as opposed to the current vision or philosophy of "car lovers into gamers and gamers into car lovers" (E3 2009). He's actually right that when you try appealing to a larger mass, it somewhat dilutes the vision. Take for example Diablo 3 compared to Diablo 2. They removed a crucial in-depth mechanic such as a skill tree that required a lot of thinking/planning to become skillful and replaced it with something much more linear that was easier to use. By doing so, they lost some old faithful users, but also gained many new ones.

I think that's how Horizon will compare to Motorsport. It won't necessarily appeal to the whole crowd, losing and gaining an audience.

I personally don't care if they add some casual features to the game, as long as there is some method around them, and that they don't hinder career progression.

Whats wrong with that? Enough for you to get sick? That's pretty "hardcore" right there.

I saw a video of FH where the player kept a string of combos and multipliers going by crashing into almost every road marker he came across. You know how many games that do this same thing? A lot, and they are a good rental at best.

I think I'm just growing out of this mainstream casual market for car games. GT5 brought me here, FM4 is retaining my attention, but I'm thinking PC is a proper next step. I'm too old for this 🤬

Forza is certainly near the front of the pack for console racers. I still feel that PD's engine is more realistic. Haven't played Race Pro, but I'm not really a fan of the simbin/sms engine. Something too 'springy' about it. I feel like the car is always bouncing around as if without damping. NFS Shift magnifies this a lot. LFS was good, but it's getting on in age right now. Have yet to play iRacing.

The thing that gets me about Forza is that every car will oversteer, every time if you enter a turn too hot. I primarily drive street cars in Forza, and this is especially strange for street cars which are designed to understeer instead. The car's always feel like they move around too much. Even with the slightest provocation, a stock Mazda2 in the game will fling it's ass out wildly. I own one. It doesn't do that in real life. I've tossed it around corners, hard, in the wet, and it still doesn't. It gives you a slight warning that understeer is coming through the steering, and then begins to push wide. You have to try really hard to get the rear to step out. (Anecdotally, I actually kind of enjoy understeer. It's not as exciting or cool looking as oversteer, but as James May points out, its where the chassis begins talking to you, and for that I enjoy it) GT5 feels way more planted. You can feel the front tires starting to load up through the FFB as the front end of the car (similar fwd car in this case, the Suzuki Swift) starts to push wide. I can never really get into a good rhythm in Forza. I always feel like I'm just driving sloppy. Anyways, this is wildly off topic, but I thought I'd post my honest opinion. I know many will disagree. I'm no die-hard to either series. I own and play the hell out of both games.

Since when did less grip = more sim? Aren't cars designed to have good grip?

edit: Wasn't aimed at your post Eunos, just a general comment for the past few pages.

I find this false, but i do not use Sim steering so if you use that then I take back what Im about to say. You are right that if you try and throw a car hard enough around a corner it will oversteer, i was able to go around corners with lots of cars without having a problem with oversteer though, although with stock high horsepowered cars it was a bit harder but thats a no brainer. It gets worse when modifying a car, but thats to be expected if its not tuned. All of the RWD cars I have tuned can take a corner with no problem of oversteer. Have a few favorites tunes for each class that would stick to the floor like glue, ranging from oldschool muscle, to supercars, to simple Japanese automobiles.

You said it yourself though, if you drive to hot in real life your going to oversteer as well. You dont have to drive hot to be fast, drive steady and consistent and dont jerk the cars around and you wont have a problem.

That's just not true at all. FM has been known for lack of oversteer. FM4 this was improved but still I find that understeer is still a slight issue. Our club just ran the Diablo GTR and we were all fighting understeer. It's even funnier that you point it out in corner entry which is where I find the most understeer.

I need to try out more cars I guess. The MR cars tend to behave a bit more realistically I found. The FF and FR cars just feel strange, and become stranger still when you modify them.

I must have missed the part where anyone in the past few pages said "less grip = more sim."

If you are referring to my previous comment it was a general example of changes in physics between FM3 and FM4; specifically tire physics.

Wow I have tuned countless cars that have lost front end grip before the rears brake lose.
Where is this myth stemming from.

I think it's a myth that powerful RWD cars shouldn't behave like they do in Forza.

 I know right. I am not sure, however I don't think even recent NFS games encourage you to crash. I mean its a racing game....crashing will slow you down and unless its Demolition derby its downright counter intuitive. I like things in arcade games like going against opposite traffic will grant you more points etc but crashing into trackside objects kinda defeats the purpose on driving on the road.

Speaking of roads, I am not sure if this is because of the lack of footage but the roads seem to be pretty flat with hardly any camber.

As always I shall await for more news

In this interview, go to around 2:32. He says, "So, underpinning all of the driving in Horizon, is Forza Motorsports, you know, world class physics engine. So it's running at 360 hertz, and when you turn off all those assists, man, you're driving the Forza engine. But, haven't you always wanted to drive the Forza engine on the open road? That's what Horizon gives you the chance to do."

So all of the gameplay videos so far have probably had all the assists turned on, or at least most of them. Honestly, that was the biggest concern I had about the game, the physics and handling of the cars.

I'm even thinking about getting a wheel for these Forza games, GT5, and any other driving/racing game that supports the Fanatec CSR wheels. I just gotta save up my money.

While he did get points for crashing street signs and fences, he did not get any points for crashing opponents or other passerby's. Atleast the points are limited to the environment, rather then getting points for crashing people your racing.

I wish they would finally record a video with all assists off though. After he brought up it being the same as FM with all assists off, they brought up a gameplay with assists which kinda bummed me out.

Eh... I guess I won't bother discussing the realism behind an engine that doesn#t model tyre pressure - or even width.

Sorry, but I stopped reading here. Are we even playing the same game? Most FF and AWD cars I've driven will understeer like hell unless you're setting them up to du otherwise. From my opinion, at least. Even most RWD cars will tend to udnersteer if your suspension is too tight... You can power-oversteer basically all the time by planting the throttle too early, of course, but otherwise, I can hardly unerstand how you're managing to do that.

Sorry to interrupt the entertaining discussion but I haven't read through this thread yet and wondered whether anyone's mentioned the news that Horizon will run at half the frame rate of its big sister?

30fps isn't ideal but I'll suck it up. The graphics had better be comparable with other 30fps games like GRiD or Shift though.

Actually, I guess it was obvious that this wouldn't run at 60fps otherwise the parent game could have included night and weather.

You just invalidated your entire opinion right there.

GT5 has the worst physics engine ever. Because GT5 is the worst racing sim ever.

Forza 4 is vastly superior to GT5 in EVERY single aspect. That's just objective truth. Why GT5 fanboys refuse to accept it, I have no idea.

Okay that's a bit extreme. There are things that are better in GT over FM but that's for this thread.... http://www.forzaplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=695

Yes, rendering runs at 30, HID at 60, and physics at 360.

Do you ever string your Mazda2 out to redline and lift throttle abruptly while flinging into a corner at the top of 3rd gear? I think the way most of us drive in a videogame would count as "really hard" in terms of actual driving in the real world. Take it as a compliment that I doubt you drive your Mazda that rough. :)

Taking a corner at 50mph in 5th gear will feel different from taking the same corner at 50mph in 2nd gear. The mistake is to compare the common real-world experience (the former) with the common racing game experience (the latter).

Not true at all. The GT5 physics are one of the few things that game does very very well. As mentioned, thats for a different topic.

The points system does seem a bit strange in Horizon. Will have to watch some more videos to fully understand this games concept. Still hoping they announce weather. This game is going to be compared to TDU2 a lot and the weather is amazing in TDU2. I really hope Horizon has weather. I am not too concerned about vinyls. I am sure it will have some sort of vinyl system but I really want to see weather in Horizon since F4 does not have weather. PGR4 weather effects would be perfect.

Nope, however what you just did not only invalidated your so called "fact" and opinions but also clearly showed your "agenda". If you wish to vent more of your frustrations and why people like games you do not, feel free to vent them in threads that are for those matters. Not that your "facts" will persuade anyone though.

Anyway, does anyone know the release date or window for this title. The 2012 fall lineup in gaming is pretty sparse. Most games seemed to have moved to the beginning of 2013. Is this still confirmed for 2012?
