Allow me to speak bluntly:

The general consensus is, or rather was, that if Forza were ever to break free from it's circuit-based roots the perfect way to do so would be on the open road, naturally. But before even that, there were rumors (whether plausible or otherwise is besides the point) that Turn 10 were to helm future iterations of PGR seeing as Bizarre Creations would no longer have the privilege and it was widely regarded as the right move considering the additional "oomph" Turn 10 could inject into an already winning formula.

Fast-forward a few years and you get Horizon, a collaborative effort between T10 and the newly erected Playground Games which is an amalgamation of talent from Bizarre and Codemasters - just to name two. They take Forza in a direction it's never been in before but they stick to the foundations of what FM is in it's essence, and now there are widespread complaints regarding a game that most have never played before and are basing it's merits against something it flat out isn't trying to be. It's too much like NFS. So what? Is there something the matter with fun? It's look too acradey. Never understood that sentiment and quite frankly never will. If "arcadey" is supposed to be some kind of pejorative denoting fun, then again, what's wrong with fun?

I'm the last person to have thought I'd ever say what I'm about to say, but as the days go by I'm becoming more and more tolerant almost to the point of appreciation that PD doesn't share their visions as openly as other developers.

Unlike the community tagged vision of absolute perfectionism from Kaz. LOL.

There's just way to much anger in Forza/GT planet. Calm down its just a game that we know five minutes worth of facts. When all is done and said, we can judge the game in it entirety after the game is out.

This is discussion about news/developments of Forza Horizon - not complaining about other user's point of views. Therefore if someone states something about the game that they like/dislike, they are on topic.

It's a forum. Some people will say something you agree with, others won't. Not everyone has to agree with one fixed point of view.

I'm just saying this because it seems too many users forget this, and instead flame others as opposed to having a rebuttal.

That being said, yes "arcadey" is fun. The direction the game is taking as opposed to the traditional Forza games is great. What's also great are some of the features that have been added that we can expect to see in future Forza titles (as previously mentioned in other posts).

What I don't find great about this is that they have ventured too far away from what Forza is with rewarding players for driving like a hoon on the "tweaked for style" physics (in its current state) and then going ahead and slapping the Forza name on it. Had they just named it "Horizon", I wouldn't even bother discussing this game. But they went ahead and slapped "Forza" in front for marketing (?) purposes.

Yes the game is made by Playground studios in association with T10 (what I feel like is another marketing ploy), so I can understand they may have a different vision. Also, I know it is going to be the first title in this series, so there is still room for development. But they shouldn't necessarily say this is the next step, when, from what we've seen thus far (albeit not much), looks more like a little bit of clumsy step down.

I really hope this part of the Forza series survives to see a sequel. Just not in its current direction.

I just hope Horizon's soundtrack lineup is satisfactory.

I mean, this video has a crappy remix of Avicii's Levels =.=

The story line will probably be entirely optional because the game has rivals mode to earn money.

I think Horizon OST will be centered on mainstream dubstep.

The thing is, it'd be better with UKF instead >.>

I just don't get the issues people are having with Horizon.

It's still an open world game with FM4-esque physics. Okay, so you've got a story line and a festival that everything is centered around. On the other hand, you'll be able to earn your dough with Rivals Mode (and I suppose that that's going to be the fastest way to get some cash) and you'll unlock other cars via exploration, anyways. Also, wasn't it stated that there are roaming AI drivers that you can challenge to a race?

The whole story line seems to be, in my opinion, much like the World Tour in FM4. A sleek and "stylish" way to string events together, but something that you don't have to bother with one bit if you don't want to. As for the crashing into things to earn points... Well, FM4 gave you points for drifting and I still never did that. It gave you money for events and I still didn't do the ones I dislike.

As for the soundtrack... Well, frankly, I don't care as long as I can turn it off. Engine sounds ftw.

Does anyone know if weather is in this game....cannot seem to find any info on it. Also does anyone know if you can drive off cliffs etc....basically there are no invisible or visible walls.

What you fail to understand is that they have made the game they wanted to. You have every right not to like it and express that opinion. However, you and people like you post in such a way as to suggest they are wrong and have failed. You exhibit a sense of entitlement that they should make the games you want with the features you want. They make the games they want and then you are free to choose to like them or not, that's it, they owe you nothing.

Entitlement seems to be the most common failing in the gaming community and possibly society as a whole these days. I can't stand the sneering, entitled attitude that seems to surround every gaming community across the interwebz.

That is the complaint that people in this thread have had, they are not complaining that people dislike the idea or the way it's been implemented but the entitled attitude that comes with that disapproval.

I remember a time when the first thing you knew about a new game was when it turned up on the shelf of your gaming store. Now we are lucky enough to get to see the process of making a game and all a large number of people can do is sneer. I've got no problem with negative opinions, however the sneering, entitled attitude that commonly delivers those opinions I have a big problem with.

Your looking too into things. I think some people are just disappointed due to the potential this game had (and still has). I mean I really do not understand why they would provide such a massive world and then leave out the MMO part. Thats the first thing that should come to mind, driving in a community in one world.

Not to mention some of the biggest complaints from TDU are the physics, which could easily be cured by a GT/Forza open word game. FM open world game arrives and they decide to cut back on physics and tuning :banghead:

When you look at a series like Forza, it is clear it is known for its customisation and simulation. It seems this game is just using the Forza name to gather more talk and sales, not saying they are the only ones to do such a thing or its particularly bad but they could at least stick to what made Forza games Forza.

You know what? I don't think I'm going to look up any more news about this game til it comes out. I'm going to lower my expectations to a Test Drive Unlimited 1 level, and leave it at that.

If the game turns out to be spectacular, with some decent physics and cars, then I'll be happy. If it turns out to be just another open world driving game like all the rest, then I probably won't buy it. Meaning I'm going to wait until the reviews come out to decide if it's worth the purchase, or if I should just stick with Forza 4.

Side note, why couldn't Turn 10 just develop a sweet DLC pack for Forza 4, that includes an open road mode? Instead of turning it into a completely separate and different game, you know? Or just create a mode like that for Forza 5 whenever it comes out?

^This.

Amazing 3 people agree the game looks more like NFS than TDU and the whole forum goes up in arms over a game they have never played.

If we aren't allowed to discuss what we dislike about the game then I guess I will make a few points about what I do like...

Those car models sure are pretty.

"Night" time?

There is nothing wrong with fun, but my kind of fun is different.. I now understand that this game is not what I expected it to be. I played alot of NFS games, but I wanted more realism but still a fun game (not as serious as GranTurismo). I found that in Forza, so that's why I'm sad to see a game with 'Forza' on it, that also could've been the next NFS.

And what I meant with 'arcadey', to me racing arcade games are more simple and user friendly, everybody likes it and it's good in general. Forza is more a game for petrolheads and not the average racing-game gamer. Why do I think so? Smashing things for bonus points? Seriously? Come on. That's a slap in the face for every Forza fan.. Plus the fact this game is build around a festival. This game is not worth the name.

If it wasn't called Forza, nobody would mention this game.

And Forza Motorsports is STILL clearly known for it's customization and simulation. Forza HORIZON on the other-hand is still being unveiled so we have to wait and see what develops.

Come on man. See above. This is no different than buying a Mustang. You got the "chick" Mustang with the 6 in it and then you got the MUSTANG! Both are Mustangs but one is made for one group and the other for another group. Both users can get something from each car but we're lucky enough to pick up both "Mustangs" since they're "only" 59 bucks a piece.

This is no different than a guy playing Splinter Cell as if it was Ghost Recon and complaining he's dying too fast then getting mad because they both have "Tom Clancy" on the box and should be exactly the same.

It's more like buying Porsche for years, then they say they come up with something totally cool and bring you a Beetle. It's **** and so is this game with this name. It's just wrong.

The name Forza really meant something, they are ruining that with Horizon..

Nope, more like Porsche bringing you 911's all these years and then bringing out the Boxster. Different car for different driver but still Porsche quality AND there's something even the 911 enthusiast can get out of it. And even though the 911 elitist snob my look down on it the more open minded Porsche enthusiast will look and see fun in the car.

Thats a terrible example. Both Tom clancy games are known not by Tom clancy but as Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.

The Forza franchise has built itself from the reputation of being a sim. Putting a subtitle that says Horizon does not negate the fact that it has. Its like NFS creating a Sim, at first people will be bewildered and dubious.

I mean if this game did not have the Forza title would you be able to tell it was a Forza game.

All movie critics must be entitlement snobs, eh? Developers should aim for perfection. They will not ever achieve it, but it should be the goal.

I think many people, including myself, are simply disappointed. Here was an opportunity for something truly innovative. There has never been an open world sim type game. This could have been that, but for a variety of reasons, that did not happen. Or it doesn't appear it will happen rather. Perhaps it was attempted and it just didn't work. Maybe sim physics in an open world, sand box environment just isn't a good combination.

I don't understand the entitlement argument. Who's being entitled to what? It's T10's/PG's prerogative to market the game to whoever they choose. In this case, I feel they are marketing it to people with only a vague or passing interest in cars. Which isn't me, so I probably won't buy it depending on the final result. Being 'entitled' and simply 'being a critic' are quite different. I have no loyalty. I own a PS3, a 360 and a gaming-capable PC. I pick and choose what I feel is good.

The idea of a racing game based on exploration of a realistic, large environment combined with a realistic driving engine that allows a person to do something that is not possible in real life (unlike circuit racing, which is possible however expensive it might be) due to things like the law, has been a pipe dream of many racing gamers for years. Who doesn't know of a road or series of roads, in real life, that they would love to take flat out without concern for killing somebody or going to jail? The concept of Forza Horizon, at least initially, *appeared* to be so close to that vision, and with each new piece of information, drifts further away from it. Perhaps that idea is not applicable in a way that makes financial sense. Who knows. T10 doesn't seem too interested in a low-volume cult game that doesn't make much money. Who can blame them?

We come from all walks of life, some impressions you agree with and some you don't. No need to stray off topic to preach about "entitlement" when game developers want our feedback. The internet is about sharing ideas, sorry you don't like all of them.

Oh, and game companies previewing titles before hand to get feedback is nothing new. If a title is big enough, you'll know about it before hand. I have magazines from the 80's to prove this.

Anyway, we all want FH to be great. Loud fonts, music and the burnout type scoring system is new to the series, so lets just hope we can have the option to make the game less annoying for long term players. Haha, there's that entitlement for ya!

Oke that's a good example. But I don't see Horizon as I see the Boxster... Maybe because it's not made by T10, maybe because it's arcadey, or maybe just because it's not the Forza we used to play and hardly a game but just a commercial stunt.

We all talk about turning it off.. It shouldn't even be in the game!!

As with every other game, they would have to be braindead idiots to listen to what an extremely small number of people think. Just because you and a few other people don't want those things doesn't mean everyone else also doesn't want them.

Do you like 'the crashing into things to get bonus points' system? (Serious question) I really doubt only a small number of people are thinking of it the way I do.

I don't think anyone really has a problem with it being in the game. The problem is if it is the ONLY way to truly progress through the game's career to unlock rewards and what not. Also, I do realize there is the rivals mode - but it still doesn't account for the "stylistically tweaked" physics engine. Never have I said that this game won't be fun, it's just not meeting what many would expect from a Forza game.

@PzR Slim: You don't know me, and probably not any of the users on this forum. So I should let you know I have no sense of entitlement at all towards any game, or almost anything for that matter. All I'm doing is expressing my O-P-I-N-I-O-N about the current state of the game. They are free to make whatever directive choices they want - they have no need to listen to me, or anyone who is part of the community (albeit it may not be the best way to make sales if they are not pleasing their intended audience).

If a game doesn't suit what I'm looking for, I simply pass it off. And even games I purchase have faults. I'm not the type of user to give a 10/10 for the games I like, a 5/10 for the games I sort of liked, or a 0/10 for games I absolutely detested. I'm not a physicist who really knows if any of these game engines are 100% accurate (however I am a chemical engineer technologist who needs to know a moderate amount of physics) and still enjoy(ed) games like DiRT 3, GT5, or even various titles from the NFS franchise.

You're looking too much into my post.

Do you like 'the crashing into things to get bonus points' system? (Serious question)

Do I like it? No
Is the game marketed towards me and not a broader audience? No

I really doubt only a small number of people are thinking of it the way I do.

The fact that Need For Speed and Burnout are rather large franchises would seem to go against that.

I don't think anyone really has a problem with it being in the game.

Reading this thread that is the opinion I have observed actually, reminds me a lot of rewind being in Forza 3&4.

I'm not saying everyone has to love, or even like the game, but at least wait until some actual info is out prior to launching an all out complaint assault.

Yes. An all out complaint assault. Didn't realize stating an opinion to discuss the current state of the game in a thread that is designed for just that purpose was launching such.

I actually don't like the rewind feature of FM3/4, but I'm happy there was a way around it which did not force players to use it and actually in turn rewarded them for disabling it. From your observation you should have understood that we are simply hoping there is a way around the current game's system.

There's a difference between just reading and reading comprehension.

I'm sure there will be millions of fans for this series. All I'm saying is that I don't agree with the current state.

If anyone has to resort to thinly-veiled insults to reinforce a point, you won't last long here.

Just a general reminder.

The fact that Need For Speed and Burnout are rather large franchises would seem to go against that.

True, but we already have those 2.. So I don't see the need for those crazy options on Horizon. And there are alot of Forza purists.. It's the only realistic racing game really on the XB..

But I'll stop now, we obviously won't go through 1 door together about this one. ;)

FM open world game arrives and they decide to cut back on physics and tuning :banghead:
Did I miss something? Wasn't it said that they're basing the game on FM4's physics engine?

Asa long as FH isn't replacing FM5, I don't see a problem there, actually. Forza Motorsports will probably still stick to its usualy bi-anually release cycle, whether FH is being made or not.

And, last but not least: I thought NFS: Underground 2 and Most Wanted were actually pretty good games, aside from the fact that the physics were entirely unrealistic. So, even if FH is closter to NFS than it is to TDU, I don't see that as an issue, as long as T10/PG are going by the better NFS games of years past.

Just like rewind on Forza 3/4 as long as I can turn off the point score announcements I'll be fine.

In fact as long as I can drive an open world with forza like handling and cockpit view I'll be happy. I might not even take part in the events. My only worry is it'll take forever to earn credits to buy an Audi R8, because that's the car I most want to drive with.

I'm excited we've seen maybe 5% of the game, wait until we start seeing different surfaces, more high end cars and other race/challenges other than the opening race. Will there be any circuits accessed from the festival?

doubt it would take forever to do credits. Judging by the first race vids that are out, you get i think 10k-20k just for beating that race. Plus with rivals mode, i dont think anything would be to hard to buy.
